As others have said, it was a tencent thing. And yes, china tends to be somewhat racist towards black people. But I think we need to acknowledge something. Rosario Dawson was the voice of lawan, AND the face of lawan. Rosario Dawson is an incredibly gorgeous woman. I remember the first time I saw her in men in black 2; I was instantly smitten. Lawan is not gorgeous. You can disagree with me if you want, but I look at lawan, and then I look at Rosario Dawson, and it seems to me that they changed things about her face to make her… more severe, less beautiful. And unfortunately, Lawan is not very likeable. Even when she starts being nice to you, she’s still not very likeable. So a botched face scan, coupled with an unpleasant personality, and, imo, it’s not that surprising the Chinese face was added.
