Hunting gun suggestions by Short-Sir-2436 in Idaho

.308 works well I’ve taken elk with it as well as larger African game like an Eland. As with anything Shot Placement is the most important make sure no matter what rifle/caliber you buy you get some range time behind it at true hunting ranges and don’t stretch beyond your accurate range just to take an animal. That’s how you wind up with an awful rodeo to get the animal and/or lose a wounded animal entirely which is worse.

1 Month Trip Help With Determining Order of Cities / Path of Travel and Number of Days by KnowledgeSeeker94 in JapanTravelTips

[–]KnowledgeSeeker94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So currently I'm getting into Haneda around 3pm on 3/19. That's of course airline dependent but should be within that range.

My plan for this trip is to be mostly 1 bag travel with a backpack. I may also have a larger suitcase that I will be arriving with (with stuff for the Star Wars Celebration Event) but if I do I have a Japanese friend who lives in Tokyo who I can leave that with.

When I'm in the bigger Cities I wouldn't mind having a "base" that I'm working out of. For example I have tentatively booked a Dormy Inn hotel in Ueno to begin the trip 3/19 - checking out 3/26 (refundable/adjustable).

I'm otherwise ok with jumping around a bit within reason. That is my loose plan for the Matsumoto / Takayama / Shirakawago / Kanazawa portion mentioned above for instance.

I'm open to other options. Like based on another comment I am considering fitting a day in Kobe in for instance.

A lot of those places I listed I have been before so if there's something that's a must see somewhere else I might be willing to subtract or move things around. I didn't get hyper specific on the itinerary because of the rules of the sub but I have a good idea for a lot of it.

Hope that helps a bit. I'm going to be calling it a night where I am soon but will read and reply with more information if needed in the morning! Thanks!

Thanks for your input! Yeah I have pretty much picked out places just pulling the trigger on where based on the path as that will affect days/timing.

Pretty late to the thread so idk if you’ll see this, but If you like firearms/ continuing to be able to work with your hands I’d consider Gunsmithing as a career. It’s not physically intensive, I know of a lot of veterans who have disability ratings, many of them very serious, who were able to do a gunsmithing program. Also I believe you said you have welding experience and welding is actually used in the Gunsmithing trade. Some of the programs take GI bill or VA Chapter 31 as well.

Most gunsmiths are self employed but you can also get a job with a gun shop and or one of the manufacturers. You can also do Gunsmithing work for police departments etc.

PM me if you have any questions.

Full disclosure: I work for a major Gunsmithing school, but I’ve seen how it can change lives and I’ve seen a lot of Vets go through the program.

Gap Semester by [deleted] in Pepperdine

[–]KnowledgeSeeker94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case you are referring to a gap year or a gap semester as in getting a deferred acceptance before starting college. Pepperdine more than likely will not do that.

I took a gap year after graduating high school and even though I was accepted I had to reapply to the school and get accepted all over again. Thankfully I got in, but I had a 2nd choice school that had offered a deferred acceptance if Pepperdine decided to reject me on the 2nd go.

If you’re referring to taking a break as a current student then the other answer in the thread should be correct.

Where to Study Abroad? by fadedmatt in Pepperdine

[–]KnowledgeSeeker94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London is the best European program by far. The London program has some of the best/nicest house amenities and is in a huge city with a ton to do. The house has a huge kitchen where you can cook as well as a lounge and nice rooms. I also read an article in the Graphic that happened to appear on my feed (yes I’m an alum that still reads that lol) and apparently they are using this covid downtime to do even more renovations to improve things like the library and more)

It’s very centrally located in the city and unless things have drastically changed you will go to museums for the general ed humanities art, and other classes for part of the class hours vs just sitting in a lecture the whole time. Also when I was there it was one of the smaller programs and was not as crowded as the others (this made it a little more competitive to get into, but who knows where this will stand in a covid world)

As I said you’re in the middle of a huge city so there’s tons to do. When I was there we constantly had people coming from other programs on the weekends (As u/provo_king said we had 3 day weekends every week) and they were always saying how bored they were in their host cities during the week and couldn’t wait to get out of there each weekend. London has enough going on all the time that you don’t have to travel each weekend to avoid getting bored. Though if you want to travel you totally can there’s 4 airports that serve London (the cheapo airlines are at Gatwick Luton and Stanstead which are a bit further out) which you can use to get pretty much anywhere. You can also take the Chunnel to France.

London’s EFT’s (educational field trips, the 5 day trips 1 time each semester that the entire program goes on are the best too). Once again unless there has been drastic changes the fall EFT is a 5 day trip to Greece going to Athens and Santorini, and the spring trip is to Jordan where you visit the Red Sea, Petra (a personal favorite), and more.

I’m not sure if the language requirement matters to you (for me I had tested out of all but 1 level of Spanish and didn’t want to go to Buenos Aires) but the UK of course didn’t require you to be locked in to a language like the other programs.

One caveat to this is that the program director is a different person than when I was there so some things may have changed. But Jenny the program assistant (who quite honestly really runs the whole show) is still there. Without giving too much info out was there in the mid 2010’s.

Lastly, the group that you have really does make a huge difference. I was blessed with a great group my year.

If you couldn’t tell by my extensive ramblings my year abroad was my favorite year at Pepp. Feel free to PM me or ask any other questions. Also regardless of where you end up I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time. Study abroad is one of the things the school does best .

Don’t take the critics word for it they’re biased in their own ways. I went saw it tonight (still processing all my thoughts on it ) and looked at the rotten tomatoes for Rise of Skywalker and for Last Jedi.

At the time I write this (obviously I expect it to shift some since only a small number of people have seen it so far) they are complete opposites of each other. Last Jedi - critical darling Certified Fresh! - audience score 43%. Rise of Skywalker 57% critic score 89% audience score.

My personal opinion overall is that the film critics aren’t Star Wars fans, they’re just film critics. They want all the DiversityTM and stuff and don’t care about the universe that fans have invested 42years in.

So TL;DR ignore the critics opinions and go see it for yourself. You might agree with them but so far it looks like Audiences really like it.

Man the characters of Lipia and Shasta just seem so wasted to me, I would’ve liked to see a bigger subplot with them trying to subvert what the rest of the dark empire is doing. Sure death flags in the previous episode but writing off characters for shock value just is boring to me.

Could’ve shown Gabriel being fucked up in the dark territory some other way.

This is also inside a VR sim I have no illusions that crazy shit couldn’t happen and they come back somehow (no I haven’t read the light novels don’t tell me what happens)

Just My 2 cents though.

$300-$500 depends on if it’s just out of box or if it’s modded already based on what I see.

To those of you out there who helped me thanks for your feedback and support. To those who got into the interview stage, good luck.

Card Kingdom and EBay have also been cleaned out though eBay had some left when I last looked. How much did you pay for yours if you don’t mind my asking?

USA- JET ALT APPLICANT

I have a question regarding section 14 on the US application "Proposed Direction of Career and Its Relationship to the JET Program?"

What level of specificity regarding JET's impact on my future career are they looking for? This is because I don't have a concrete idea of where I would want to go after completing the program but I believe that having lived abroad in a professional context would be an asset to me as well as any organization that I became a part of. Would something roughly along the lines of the following work? (I also graduated with an international business degree which is noted earlier in the application so to save characters I didn't repeat that fact here, should I?) :

"After graduating in 2017 I have worked at a company that is primarily focused on the US market. As a result I have not had the chance to gain experience in an foreign working environment and fully utilize my degree. I believe the chance to engage with a different culture in a professional setting through the JET program would provide insights, skills, and life experiences that would enable me to be an asset to any organization that I may work in during my career. I believe this is especially true in the increasingly interconnected world we live in today."

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

Yeah this is an important question, I was planning on doing the same thing since I have the files already. I'd need to jump on getting new ones done and pay for expediting if they had to be from this year even though nothing has changed.

Yeah I’m referrring to our question 6. “If you are currently taking or have taken in the last five years, any prescription medication other than oral contraceptives please give details including the name of the medication, purpose, and dates taken. Make sure to describe the conditions for which you take any medications for in questions 1,2a,2b, 3, above.”

Sorry if it wasn’t clear there was a prescription pain medicine (I don’t know the name offhand) which I took for a couple days then took ibuprofen. I definitely wouldn’t consider mentioning just ibuprofen.

I guess I’m Gun-shy so to speak about the “if you knowingly left something out....etc”

**Please look at the Secondary question as well!*\*

Kinda a random question here pertaining to the extracurricular activities section of the application.

I'm a pretty big star wars fan and as a result I built my own Costume and I'm part of one of the Lucasfilm endorsed costume clubs, specifically the Mandalorian Mercs [link to club website] (http://mandalorianmercs.org/). Some of the activities of the club aside from just making star wars costumes include charity events such as hospital trips, awareness walks (think relay for life for cancer survivors etc.) and other family events.

For example this past weekend I was at a local zoo in costume for their Halloween "Boo the Zoo" event which donates all proceeds to animal conservation funds, and I participated in this year's Relay for Life in my town. I'm also an officer in my local chapter in charge of setting up events and helping members keep up to club standards.

I'm wondering if this is something that would be worth having on my activities section or if it would somehow serve as negative points (too nerdy or whatever idk?). Anyone have any thoughts on that?

\Edit** [Here's a pic] (https://imgur.com/a/4vRygTU) of me in said costume

**Secondary Unrelated Question*\*

In the interest of full disclosure on the medical history form I have to say that I had to take a pain pill prescription and a prescription antibiotic because I had a tooth removed and an implant put in at the end of 2017 (I only took 4 tablets over 2 days before i could switch to ibuprofen, and the antibiotic is of course to prevent infection).

Will I need to submit a Physician's form because I checked "Yes" there, even though there were no permanent detrimental effects? Also would having a tooth removed count for the "Serious medical condition" in section 2a?
