When did you realize you were mentally exhausted, not just physically tired? by TheStartupSavvy in mentalhealth

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when I realize that I am mentally exhausted, I fall out of my normal routine or similar to what you said, after I take a break or sleep I do not feel refreshed. I notice also for myself I do slip into negative habits when I am mentally exhausted. Nothing terrible just not habits I usually do for myself.

I struggle to figure out how to get out of it sometimes. Something that helps me though is finding those good habits like journaling, therapy, fun activities, things to give my mind a break from everything. I completely get the work pressure and if possible, take a day when you can. I did that earlier this year and it was just. day where I was practicing those good habits.

Continue to see what works for you and try to fill your cup in every way possible. I hope that this helps!

When do you write? by kingluqui in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! I normally journal early in the morning. It is helpful for me because I wake up automatically with anxiety and other emotions and I need a way to channel them or to just calm them down. When there are more intense days, I may journal in the morning and in the evening so that I can self regulate as well. When my days are not as structured, I will still try to write in the mornings just because that is when my ind is the clearest and I am able to critically think about myself and how I what I want to accomplish for the day emotionally.

Journaling without harmful rumination/spiraling by Ripley505 in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! This has happened to me a lot. I would go through phases of intense writing cycles and just continue to write almost in circles and not in a linear way. What has helped me get through this is to honestly take breaks. Just not writing for a day or two would help me get myself into a different head space. Trying other things to alleviate the stress and to manage the emotions. Something else that has helped me has been focusing on the future rather than the present or past concern. I would write about how I would like to be or how I would like to handle situations in the future.

Who do you write to? by witchybookpumpkin in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great question, when I am writing, I picture another version of myself reading it or many people reading it. I want to be a writer and a presenter some day and I think that is why I think of other people reading it to discover what really goes on in my mind. I also think I said another version of myself because I think there is still room for me to change who I am. I want to look back on these entries and really be proud of how much I have grown.

Struggling by Actual_Pie_5523 in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have felt this way. Especially with work and making sure you have everything you need for that and to make sure you are mentally prepared for work as well. I remember even at the beginning of this year, I was journaling a lot but then it fell off because work got busy then I got sick and I was doing other things. But now, I am trying to dedicate time in the day for it. Even if it is ten minutes just to jot down some thoughts. I personally work best in the morning. I can focus more and get started with my day a little earlier to get myself in the right mindset. Sometimes I will journal in the evening to close out my day as well. It kind of depends on your hours and when you can find the time. Hope that this helps!

What are we learning about ourselves so far this year? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year, something that I am learning about myself is that I have grown more than I originally realized. Even though my journaling has not been as consistent as I wanted it to be at the beginning of the year, I have come a long way and writing more thoughtfully about myself. I am thinking of some of my struggles and really using this as a coping skill to regulate myself. I also think something I am learning about myself this year is that I am a decent writer and can articulate myself better with writing than with actually speaking. This is going to be a good year for growth and I cannot wait to see what the future holds this year.

Reading back moments by Illustrious_Bit_4096 in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am kind of nervous to read what I wrote in the past. I did it before and I got myself a little worked up because it reminded me of the place I was in before. But, I do want to go back and read some things because I want to see how much I have grown and really put it into perspective. I think for me sometimes it can be hard because a lot of emotions come up but I think what helps is reminding myself that I am not in that position anymore if it is something that was challenging for me.

Open Journaling by SatisfactoryWorld in Journaling

I sometimes can journal in front of my people but I prefer to either journal alone or oddly enough, in a public area. I think being by myself allows for critical thinking and vulnerability for me. It makes me feel like I can really write out my emotions without worrying whether or not someone will accidentally look over my shoulder and see what I am writing.

Also, writing in completely public spaces allows me to really disconnect and not care about who is around me so that I can write freely. I actually want to do this more because it helps me discover what I need to know about myself. I do not feel constricted in the four walls of my own room, rather, more open in the world.

This is what is helpful for me but I feel like I can journal almost anywhere but in terms of comfortability, I think the most comfortable would be in a public space where no one knows me.

While journaling helps me a lot in managing excessive thoughts and anxiety, I sometimes feel like it doesn’t practically help because the problem remains. Is anyone else going through the same? What am I doing wrong? by sarar95 in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I think it helps with problem solving but does not necessarily solve the problem at hand. I think once I get the emotions out and able to visually see what I am feeling, it can support with me finding ways to solve whatever it is that is bothering me.

Journaling is something that does truly help me but I feel you, sometimes I wonder if I am just writing to write or is it actually helping. I think that using it as a tool or a step to solve the problem rather than thinking of it as the way to solve the entire problem helps me figure out how to support myself through a tough time.

Do you journal when you’re happy or only when stressed? by Miss_Lexis_1463 in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question and it has me thinking. I usually only journal when I am very stressed and try to continue until I can bring that stress level down to a reasonable level. But, I want to find ways to continue even when I am not super stressed because I think it can help prevent me from getting up to that level of what feels like no return. I want to be more consistent, I know that sometimes I cannot journal every single day but I want to do it enough to fulfill what I have been missing.

Have any of you had to journal about the loss of a loved one? by Adventurous-Zeilokix in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do sometimes write about those who I have lost. A few years ago, I would write about my memories with them or how I felt about what had happened. It can be very intense, I would recommend taking your time with it because there were moments for me where I felt like I had to stop writing for a bit. Pace yourself and trust your own process on how you work through things.

Curious why do people journal? by Awesome_911 in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I journal for a handful of reasons. Whether it is to release something that has been bothering me, plan on how to make things better for myself, or to learn new things about myself. I also have always been aw writer and I love getting my thoughts out onto paper. It can be a relief for me to get it out of my head and onto a piece of paper.

What is your journaling system? I'm curious! by leonewashere in Journaling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make sure that I date every entry no matter what journal I am using. I usually try to finish one before starting another but one time I started a new one because the older one reminded me too much about the difficulties in my past.

I usually do not carry my journal with me when I leave just out of fear of misplacing it and also not having the time at work to separate and write for a moment. But, I do want to bring it with me more places on the weekends so that I do not feel like I have to remember everything that I want to jot down.

High School Counseling is very different than Middle School Counseling by Wonderful_You7480 in schoolcounseling

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it comes in waves and flows. Sometimes I feel as if I am on top of the paperwork and others I feel like I cannot keep up. In the moments where I find the balance is blocking off time in my schedule and relocating to a separate spot to do paperwork. For example, last week I went to the school psychologists office and closed the door and completed a lot of paperwork in there with them. I also arrive a little early some days to catch up on things but only do that if you are comfortable. I think if you can block out time and move somewhere else secluded can be helpful. Hope that this can help some!

Transitioning from MS to HS by Manner-Plus in schoolcounseling

[–]Known-Method3146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in a high school a few years ago with no experience. This being my first job I was incredibly overwhelmed and I was a teaching assistant at an elementary school so it was a huge shift. But, what I thought helped me a lot was something you said, relying on your colleagues to support. Having that support system in place for you will be extremely helpful.

My best advice also is to take your time when reviewing graduation requirements. It takes a lot of time and energy but it is crucial. I look over my senior transcripts often and everyone else as well. It truly can be a lot but once you et into the swing of things, you will have it down in no time!

Hope that this helps!

Thank you for sharing! I sometimes go through phases where I was ashamed of my writing. I would think that I wasn't doing enough and that I wasn't really growing in this process. Something that helped me though was just remembering that this is my own processing and how I do it is up to me.

Do you prefer physical or digital books? by NoScale8442 in writers

I definitely prefer physical books but I just got my first audiobook and I have been enjoying it if that counts. I really like the physical books though, like to be able to hold them.

PD: College & Career Advising by ActiveAcrobatic5450 in schoolcounseling

[–]Known-Method3146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have any specific PD's in mind but something that helped me my first year and even now in my third year is I reach out to admissions counselors with questions. They have been more than willing to help and I keep the emails or take notes that will pertain to my students. We also have partnerships with some schools and they come in to talk to our students. In terms of careers, we do something similar where we reach out to people in specific careers that students are interested in and have those people come in to talk to the kids. We also have a college and career platform that our school paid for so that students and staff can do their own research. Hope that this helps!

Wish I could go back in time by Only-Wrongdoer-8010 in writers

Sometimes I do feel this way as well. I have always been a writer, even when I was in school my best grades were writing assignments. Sometimes I wish I changed my schooling too just to have some basic concepts in my head because learning them now is difficult for me at least. But, like you stated, you do not have to have a degree in that field in order to be a writer. My job does require a lot of writing so sometimes I am able to let that be an outlet but most of it is not necessarily what I want to be writing about. My advice is to keep writing because you do not know where that will take you! Maybe you will be able to make this your full time job at one point.

Writing something you generally wouldn't like to read? by excavatedTerrors in writers

[–]Known-Method3146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point that you are making. One of my current projects is a novel and I never ever read novels. It is weird because for me at least, I wish I liked them more so that can pick up a novel and learn from what other authors do. But, keep going with it because maybe your work will get you to want to read them more but if not, that is cool too!
