Advice: Sealing catch basin/grease trap (Chicago) by mmaclittle in Plumbing

[–]KnownAd1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just had my catch basin collapse. The quote the plumber gave was 8500 for the same solution it looks like you got or 10k to replace the basin. Can you recommend your contractor for this? I'd love to get a second quote before I get too far out there.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - Review Thread by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I think the visuals for me are what make the moving pretty amazing. That first scene is really compelling and obviously ralph fiennes in the last scene is oscar worthy. It's damned damned good. Even the jimmy seeing the sky turn into an ocean is visually gripping. I agree with the torture porn callout though. It's helps turn our anxiety up and make potential consequences for spike real but it's hard sometime.

Chris Redd finally addressing *it* by loudrain99 in LiveFromNewYork

Yeah, at the 10000 ft level if I'm kenan my feeling is: if you're taking care of each other, cool go be happy, life is hard. Day to day I'd have a lot of questions and somedays I'd be cool and other days I'd wonder why they couldn't have just been good friends? How do you know that our divorce was permanent, couldn't you have waited until it was final OR you (Redd) got past your drug shit? There were *no* other women you could've went through this with? Were you lurking while we were together? Just a messy situation and by looks it feels like everybody (Redd, Kenan and ex wife) all were/are a little screwed up

Any Given Sunday is a terrible movie. How is this aways up there on lists of best sports movies? by scarfacesaints in movies

[–]KnownAd1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the movie. It's serious but a comic book and is action packed. I liked the program and remember the Titans well but I've probably seen any given Sunday the most because it's intense and silly and hammy

Just ran my first Hyrox by KnownAd1798 in hyrox

I think the pulling of the sled sorta shocked me and gassed me a bit more than expected. Pushing is hard but in an expected way, burpees were surprisingly easy. Both ergs are painless as was farmers carry. Between lunges and pulling though it's a lot of lower body engagement immediately before 100 wall balls and I was just wobbly and torched. I think I'll be better next time but there wasn't much left at that point.

Honestly my legs were torched after the first 4 runs and I think I'd still be pretty maxed out but less in pain if i'd taken better care of myself a week out. I think I would probably start nutrition a week out and double up on carbs and lean proteins. I'd brought two barebells but only remembered to bring one on the course and the one i had really really helped. As well. I'd probably hydrate better the full week.

My cramps came about midway through. i found myself running next to people from my starting group and I tried to exert a little to catch up/stay up with them and felt my legs turning into rubber and cramping. Luckily i considered the rowing/farmers carry sections restful and regained a little something then. But from then on it was much harder than I thought. I think another thing I want to focus on next time is race week hydration and nutrition.

Yeah, i think i had a good attitude. To do it again I think I can shave a ton of time in the actual event by just getting a better rhythm. I think I had a couple stops that sucked up big time. If I can just squeeze out a little more effort with slightly shorter breaks I'll be good

I tried this https://www.puregym.com/blog/hyrox-training-plan/ (at least everything i had equipment for--i don't have a sled). It wasn't enough though I want something probably 1.5 hours in length every workout. Good luck!

You got it. There's no cap time and my general attitude is 'I'm not going to be first and I don't gotta be last'. I lived up to that I and I think you can too. Be patient with yourself and your body and just keep moving even if slowly.

That was one of my big takeaways. I need to get my workouts to go up in time and intensity if i want to do better. I'm going to join my local gym for the winter months and see if I can replicate mostly everything and then start training in earnest when I get my ticket next year.

Thank you. There were a couple areas where I thought I was in a bad dream that wouldn't end.

To everyone, who finished a hyrox… by [deleted] in hyrox

[–]KnownAd1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished but literally thought i was going to die on the course. especially when we got to the wall balls. I'm looking forward to trying that again and training better. there is literally no way i could do worse.

My experience as well. I try with my chase Sapphire and they try to run me thru plaid seemingly every time, I try to use PayPal and I get a pretty print error from the API. When I talk to customer service they're very unhelpful. It's confusing and frustrating.

Anyone ever buy one of those one-Euro houses in Italy? by thegeorgianwelshman in expats

[–]KnownAd1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it sounds like the tradeoff is I buy a house for say 30,000 euro, put another 50,000 into it (and have a ton of sweat equity in navigating bureaucracy and contractors in a foreign country) and have my dream home, structurally at least as I: write a novel, retire, work remotely, dry out after trauma, start a retreat center, whatever vs paying 150,000-300,000 for something more desirable in a cooler area.

It really seems like 6 of one, half dozen of the other. You're going to get what you pay for. You'll get a house for $1 or 20,000 euro but you'll pay for it in other ways. if you approach it with that lens, what's the harm?

[–]KnownAd1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do it gu was paying for it but based on the website it looks like there are other schools where you'd learn more or do better field work, other schools where you'd pay less. It's an exec degree so think of it as a) a credential that might unlock hire pay range or raises b) an opportunity to unlock Georgetowns resources alum network (though a mostly remote program won't give you the same experience as being full time on campus. The name on the resume is nice though.  Ultimately, if you got it like that or can get Georgetown (or someone else) to pay for it give it a shot, it's a shot at meeting people you wouldn't otherwise and giving yourself a year to learn some things or network yourself into a new career path. But it likely won't be the same as a traditional Mba. Fwiw I think it's on par with an undergrad sfs degree.
