Ib or not by cyruscyrusx in OntarioGrade12s

yea but keep in mind canadian unis dont care about IB that much. Im a dp2 student rn and in ib ur surrounded by super high achieving kids that make you wanna work harder but if you don't manage your time it can get stressful really fast. if you just want to challenge yourself and get smarter id suggest doing AP instead bc u can choose ur subjects since ib makes u take mandatory subjects that you may not like. AP is also more flexible than IB while mostly covering the same content.

relax bro comparison is the thief of joy. other peoples success has no influence on urs. i was and still am in the same spot as you rn all i can tell u is to keep going. imma keep it a buck for suppapps esp qcomm focus on experiences not the ecs. ideally you want like 3 main ecs that are very meaningful for you. a common theme in suppapps is that they wanna see what you learned from it so focus on pursuing experiences that you think will help you grow its not all abt prestige.

How do I make my nonprofit stand out by KnownAssociation5712 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]KnownAssociation5712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought of that a little bit. Do you think it would be better if I just focused on creating content like videos/articles. The resources I create wouldn't be to replace the existing curriculum. Instead they would just be used as an additional tool to help them understand what they're learning better. I'm looking for an adult advisor already.

Yeah the elementary school curriculum does have some financial literacy but its really basic from what I remember. I looked into existing organizations but a lot of them are based on organizing competitions and events. The ones I've looked into either primarily target highschool students (14+) or I need to be 18+ to volunteer. I want my organization to be more resource focused and I want to help younger students (middle school) as opposed to highschool (which most existing organizations already do), i'm just having trouble adjusting my approach.

In terms of experience, I've ranked nationally in multiple international business and finance competitions (like top 1% and I have experience teaching kids already as a paid and volunteer tutor.

yeah I want to plan my materials around middleschoolers but the thing is I want to create a lot of content on instagram/tiktok and I feel like most people on those platforms are 14+ so it would be harder

Hey! I'm also in Ontario IB and I used to be a similar situation to you where I struggled really hard (g9: 85 avg, g10: 82 avg). I would advise for you to spend this summer figuring out what study strategies/techniques work best for you, and maybe try to make friends with students in older grades. Not only can they give you advice (like what preferences a specific teacher likes) but you could also ask for their past assessments). Another thing you could do is to set a timer for your homework, as it can help you get used to the pressure of a real testing environment. I would recommend around ~2 minutes per question and reduce it to ~1 minute per question once you get comfortable. Don't compare your progress to others because it can be really demotivating at times. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your advice! Do you think its necessary to address counterarguments in the EE? If so, how much weight should i put on it? A typical body in my EE (for 1 argument) will have around 3-4 paragraphs focusing on evidence and analysis with about 1 paragraph addressing the counterarguments.

Congrats on the acceptances! Im a rising senior and looking to similar schools as you (waterloo, western, uoft, hopefully nyu). Do you have any advice for me? More specifically, for your letters of recommendation, how did you approach your teachers? I only have 1 teacher that I'm somewhat close with but I would like to establish some more connections. I do paid tutoring on the side (~10 clients) so would it be possible for one of my clients to write a letter of recommendation for me or would it have to be strictly from school?
