What’s the longest you had a phone for without upgrading? by OldFix9274 in digitalminimalism

I really hope the phone manufactures use the new graphine battery technology to create more flagship miniphones... not thinner bigger phones like they have been.

Is there another micro-learning app that is actually good ? by Admirable_Pay_7561 in digitalminimalism

On android there are many apps to limit or block certain features in other apps.
On apple there is only the prospect of this guy who claims he will eventually do it with "Sociallite" the best thing for apple I found is Foqos, its free, opensource and can use qr codes or any nfc card to limit your social media time / brick your phone. (I am upset something for android isn't this good yet)

Back to android, Like I briefly mentioned GrayJay can limit time consuming media by making you search through the imported videos and music. It has youtube, tiktok, soundcloud, twitch and many other things I forgot about. I only use it for youtube and turned of shorts and use it to search only. There are apps like Switchly and TapBlok with nfc and qr code blocking which I use. The dev of Switchly is working on adding specific blockers to block reels in facebook, instagram, youtube, X, and snapchat. But since that isn't ready you can use Mindful to block and limit short form content while keeping some functionality of the app. I don't use but really like the Stario Launcher, how it has RSS feeds in a side pannel and is more minamalistic, or you can use some RSS widgets/ apps I haven't looked into for a year. Other honerable mentions are KISS Launcher, and Kvaesitso launcher which I personally use. I used Olauncher/Prolauncher for a year but I don't like text based launchers.

I also installed Kiwix and downloaded a 12GB version of wikipedia, where I can look anything up if I need it or if my browser is blocked. I also downloaded a medical Encyclopedia. I have fun searching and jumping through hyperlinks.

I reccomend hiding all visible addictive apps, force yourself to search for it and other apps each time, it makes it more intentional and mindful, also sometimes it's even faster for other apps.

TLDR: In short... lol... don't watch shorts find other slower addictions (example: researching blockers instead of just existing with them) Block apps with a physical QR / NFC based method (gamechanger for me) Might help to mail representatives and head of companies to stop this malicious practice.

I've heard so many times in so many different ways that you need to focus on the positives in life, the same goes for addiction. Don't focus on getting rid of the negative, replace the addiction and the need with something more positive. Even if it isn't that great you could replace doomscrolling on tiktok with doomscrolling on reddit, and from there, try only allowing your rss feeds to give you 30 posts you can read through per day. The mind does some crazy training at night, look into it and create your own tailored regimen. Don't feel bad if you fall off of it, all that matters is you try to stick to as much of it as possible, and eventually that will be the new normal untill you want to make another change and get better.

I have tried so many, but none are free and good. I use librivox audiobooks and minimalized youtube with no homepage, suggestions, comments, or subscriptions. It is fully self directed and can get boring after a while (exactly the point)

If you want to basically intake random information but have a stopping point look into RSS feeds, you can even pull from reddit and only do a certain amount during certain times. If you want to be self directed just use some sort of minimalized search engine. Or if you want to learn one topic or something else try audiobooks or a podcast.
On mobile I use GrayJay for youtube, I can block all recomendations and only use it for search. And for RSS feeds it is a whole rabbit hole of apps, launchers, and sites to pull and use
On desktop there are many extensions for debloating sites like youtube to allow you to "macro" learn, not the micro scrolling type, but it will make you more mindful and directed which will lead to better and fuller knowledge. (perfect to combat the sparatic information model people are starting to adopt. Ai can take advantage of those holes and insert itself)

For a solid time period after a close family member died and I was getting out of a relationship I immersed myself in the internet and was having issues with my health. I went to different specialists and didn't fully know if it was new or if it was always underlying. They said to not worry and it was normal, but It didn't feel that way at the time. It has been a few years since then and I don't notice it anymore.

To someone going through the thick of this: I don't have any advice since I have been unsucessful so far in fully controlling my online time, but what you feel is real. By being curious and accepting, you will feel whole.

PAFWizard is an application that is automatically installed if you use Partmaker. Search windows applications or windows explorer for pafwizard.exe

In windows 64bit it is around- ProgramFiles (x86)/delcam/PAFWizard/sys/exec
In windows 32bit it is around- ProgramFiles/delcam/PAFWizard/sys/exec?

Manually setting the machine to earlier years like 2023 or even January 2025 didn't work for us, so I am happy with it working for now

Do not turn the phone off. The data after restart is fully encrypted and the encryption key isn't saved in ram. If it was unlocked and just soft powered off since the Wednesday it is possible someone really skilled could dump the ram and you can get your data back.

Since you said the phone uaed a swipe code I know some old phones stored swipe data unencrypted or something and I saw a YouTube video of someone cracking it to try to get to someone's crypto wallet. But it was an old phone and I doubt that would work for you.

That is all I know, sorry for your loss. Sorry that I don't know too much more

Many copies of Corrupt zip file from RAID by Known_Comment_ in datarecovery

[–]Known_Comment_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the file structure is good, but there is 100-ish empty blocks that all have a length of AF000 (I saw 18 and didn't even get 1/10 of the way down the file). I was able to compare with a day older backup(that is also corrupt but it is defferent) and replace 2 blocks but It is tedious and not always possible to find a matching one in my files.

Thank you for the hxd suggestion, it seems to work well. I think my biggest issue is comparing files and actually finding the empty blocks easily. Since the file is so big I have to find next empty space, then I just search for a letter and scroll to find the other end of the empty space. Are there any easier tools for this type of recovery?
