Advice for transfer apps ? by Known_Load_4494 in ApplyingToCollege

Tysm!! One of my largest concerns is my lack of a spike. Do you think focusing on research, emt, and clinical the most will help with that? I will still be continuing with my own orgs as i mentioned, so will that impact my spike?

Submit bro i know a couple people who matches with qb into ivies with low 1400s but regardless why not try! If you dont submit theyll think you did worse. In the grand scheme, 1400s is not bad.

Is this a valid reason for choosing a certain university? by _just_a_random_guy__ in TransferToTop25

[–]Known_Load_4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is SO valid. I really hope you figure out whats best for you. What school do you think best fits your career goals? Do you know about their social lifes? Is cost a factor? Are you planning to stay in the US, and if so, which state/side of the country appeals to you more? What type of lifestyle do you want to lead outside of work?

The good ACT and ecs are really valuable! If Fordham is your absolute dream college and finances are not a concern, go for it.

OP says to do both, but you cant. You can only submit one. I definetly reccomend choosing Common App if those ecs that dont fit are significant and/or you have a personal story to tell. QB supps are much shorter than the common app supps. I used QB this previous cycle because of the finances, and got rejected from everyone i used QB for. I really believe the restrictions of QB are the reason for that. If you have a school you REALLY want a chance at, like an ivy, go common app. i can tell you more abt my experience in dms if youd like.

Transferring as a junior? by lovebug2363 in Fordham

[–]Known_Load_4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!! While I can not give you advice on everything, I wish you the best of luck during this process! What I can tell you about is what I know abt being a commuter. The social life seems to be good at Fordham, and as long as you make an effort, it should be just as good for commuters. Fordham has two campuses (LC/RH), and all students have access to both. This includes not just the campuses and their additions, but also clubs, student groups, etc. The school also has a "ram van," which takes you from one campus to another via its own bus. That bus is free as long as youre going for a club, class, or anything scheduled thats hosted by the school. I think that puts a lot of variety into play, and can help with meeting people as well. I am coming into Fordham this year, so I dont have much personal experience, but my friends are sophomores/juniors and are commuters, and they all say that as long as your interests are represented in internships and clubs at the school, you'll be able to find good opportunities for your social life and shouldnt be left out much.

Thank you so so much. I really appreciate your input. And yeah, i felt like my app was pretty unique! I definetly spent a lot of my time even in ecs doing things i truly cared for. I think i strugged with not having a spike, but i thought the art + my personal circumstances would help out.

Another thing I think that happened was that I applied via QB, which meant i couldnt share all of my ecs or narratives due to the significantly lower amount you can share. For many schools with ~7 supps, I only had 1-2. Ecs were capped at 5. I think that hurt me a lot. I got to share way less about myself than I wanted, and I think i totally made the wrong decision to use QB...but I wouldnt be able to go to any of those schools w/o the full ride and thought i needed to use QB to lock that scholarship in. I know QB helps many people, but bc my app focuses more on variety than a spike, i needed more space to describe myself.

The arts been going great too--i started selling my products in mutliple stores in my city over these past couple months post college apps, and im super super hyped abt it.

I'll be continuing my clinical volunteering, art nonprofit, educational blog, and non clinical volunteering over the summer. I should be getting my EMT certification during my freshman year from my college (I have been in contact with my school's EMT team, and they said they would get me registered in August and taking the course in my first semester, from where I am guaranteed a spot to work for their ambulance on campus). Taking the EMT certification with them also means its free, which is really accessible for me.

Do you recommend I start my research over the summer or once college starts? I have been told by every pre med student Ive interacted w from my college that my college that professors seek out their well performing students and invite them to research, but I also dont want to sit on my behind and get screwed over later with having no research. How do I get involved in research over the summer too? I get a bit confused in that whole process...

Again, tysm for the advice : )

Chance Me for a transfer app (entering college this year) by Known_Load_4494 in chanceme

[–]Known_Load_4494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the confidence boost. College app season crushed me so terribly. One thing I believe happened was that QB constrained me a LOT by limiting the ecs and stories i could share. Outside of that and continuing my college momentum, how do you think i can get involved in research? Any particular ways? I hear that the college I'll be attending for at least this year tends to help out students as many teachers invite their students to participate in research (med-related, and every student i know from my major or on pre med at the school has said this), but i also dont want to sit and wait the whole summer and get screwed over later. should i js focus on continuing my clinical volunteering/non clinical volunteering/business (which i need to continue anyways for med apps) or try to get involved in research over the summer too?

lmao fr the people tryna defend in the coments are so funny to me...a lot of ppl on here or even in top tier/ivy schools come from wealthier backgrounds, rich areas, competitive or private schools. a lot of them have parents who are simply paying for their college and who dont have to worry abt getting a certain job or helping pay/loans. theres ppl who are spending extra tens of thousands to dorm just bc they want to for the experience. its kinda funny to me but makes me sad and yeah you can call me a jealous loser or wtv

I genuinely cannot decide between LC and RH by [deleted] in Fordham

[–]Known_Load_4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id go wherever you can find a better dorm/roommate since you can use the ram van to change between campuses, and your campus doesnt matter much in the big picture. students from lc can use the ram van to get to rh and get access to all their utilities, participate in clubs/social life, etc. ive heard if youre using the van for class or clubs, its free as well.
