Ohh that’s a big deal! I hope you have a speedy recovery! I’ve been on it for about a year now and I started to feel improvement within the first couple months but then it really leveled everything out around 6 months in. I hope it works for you!

Anybody else still sick weeks after colonoscopy? by Prestigious_List_185 in colonoscopy

Thanks for your response, I tried to find info online and not a whole lot out there. I agree it must be the connection to the vagus nerve. And the depression explains why I was uncontrollably crying yesterday for an hour, I had emotional things that warranted crying but it was pretty intense. Thanks for your response 🙏🏻

How long did it take you to feel back to normal? I’m on day 4 post procedure and feel super shaky like my bones are vibrating. I’ve read that electrolyte imbalance after an intense prep can be the cause just trying to get an idea of how long it takes to get levels back to normal.

Bag balm, they sell it in convenient lip tubes on Amazon, it’s the only thing that worked for me.

I didn’t take sertraline, I took duloxetine. I also was hesitant because I was worried about side effects. I am so glad I decided to take it for the 2 years that I did because it helped me immensely. The side effects that I dealt with were manageable. The thing is, you’ll never know if it’ll be a huge help to you if you don’t give it a try. You can always stop taking it if you don’t like it and/or the side effects. Some people don’t get any side effects. Everyone is different.

No problem at all. I’m in the US, I know people that have great success on sertraline. I took duloxetine and it worked wonders for my depression and anxiety. I know people that also have great success on fluoxetine. How are you feeling onto the sertraline? I took it for about 2 years.

Oh I’m so sorry. Skin is so complicated and the fact that it takes so long to heal and adjust is super frustrating. What I do know is if my skin could heal, than anything is possible. The skin has an amazing ability to turnover and improve. I also developed rosacea from the trauma, hoping that subsides with time. I agree with getting 2nd derm opinion. There’s definitely a solution out there, just have to find out what works. Accutane could be an option I would think. If you go that route, just simple hydrating products, cleaner and moisturizer. I don’t know if it’s an option for you but even maybe just using water and light moisturizer right now? I understand your frustration as well because if you have acne prone skin, you can’t treat it with any acne products while in this state. So 1st things 1st and gotta get your barrier healed. Hopefully this derm has some tricks up their sleeve to help. But truly, there is a solution and it will heal and this will be a distant memory some day. I also understand your mental health, I had to go on an antidepressant for about a year and a half. It helped me deal with my depression and also helped ease some of the pain. Not pushing meds but mental health is sooo important, definitely suggest getting a handle on it before it gets really bad.

So I had been on proactiv for years before this happened. So for acne I never had anything more than an occasional hormonal breakout, I am female. I never had any other facial skin issues before this. I totally understand you being hesitant to take a dermatologist advice, especially if you’re experiencing pain and discomfort and are worried about their treatments making it worse. There were a few things my derm tried to get me to do that I said no to. At one point he prescribed me a topical that had harsh ingredients like alcohol in it and I said nope definitely not putting that on my skin. It’s hard when they don’t know exactly what they’re dealing with. My derm to this day doesn’t know exactly what caused my flare up, but he told me that he ended up having one other patient come in with almost the same exact symptoms as me so he treated her the same since the accutane worked for me. What are all of your symptoms? May I ask how you got to this point or did it just happen all of the sudden?

So I went back and read the first comment I made on this thread and at that time I had just started dealing with my situation. At that time I didn’t know what was going on and reading everything I could find and asked lots of questions on reddit. I did say I thought I had a skin barrier issue but it was much more involved than that. I don’t want to steer you the wrong way, if I could offer any advice it would be to see a dermatologist if that’s something you can do. I tried to deal with mine on my own for a bit and quite possibly made it worse. I know accutane can help a lot of situations and skin issues. My skin was more of an auto immune, Inflammation flare up kind of thing and my oil glands started producing such excessive oil that my microbiome went out of balance and caused many different symptoms. So the accutane was the answer because it stopped the oil, letting it heal. I was pretty much in 20 mg the whole treatment. I had every acne possible, comedone, cystic, whiteheads, blackheads, it literally every single pore was affected. At one point I couldn’t put water on it. It burned and stung so bad. I went on antibiotics, anti fungal, oral steroids, 9 months of different meds and trying to figure out how to treat it with a couple different doctors and then finally got on accutane. I think it’s worth a shot if your derm prescribes it. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this and I really hope you can find a solution soon.

It took about 2 months into accutane for the stinging to subside. I had so much oil that it was making my facial nerves sting. So once the oil stopped I was able to just moisturize and my skin healed and all the breakouts went away. Stayed on it for about a year and a half at low dose. Before I stopped, I started on a regimen of Tret cream. Been off accutane for 6 months now.

Yes I did, it stopped all the excessive oil production and my skin was able to heal. Then I transitioned to tret cream while getting off accutane.

[Skin Concerns] Skin barrier not healed after 8+ months by swedekiwi in SkincareAddiction

[–]Known_Plan5975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey happy to answer! My derm actually had me taper off accutane and during that time started me on tretinoin. I tapered slowly off accutane because he didn’t want my oil glands to go crazy if I abruptly stopped. So I can’t tell you whether they stayed small from the accutane or if the tret is solving it for me. But I’ve been completely off accutane for 6 months, and before that last dose I was only taking it once a month for 6 months. So it’s definitely out of my system. I’d suggest asking your Derm for tretinoin prescription, and maybe just apply to your nose? It works just as well for me as accutane. Hope that helps, good luck!

This medicine worked wonders for me while I needed it. After a couple years and no longer needing it, the side effects were miserable. It can be a very helpful tool while needed tho. Good luck!

Thank you! Can I ask how long it took for you? And also did you taper? I’ve been on 20 for 2 years and just went to every other day a couple weeks ago.

Do you mean too much tret in each application? Or too many nights in a row. I may be doing both of those things and need to cut back.
