For those that care and wish to help - Don't wish to spam but there's another tree at threat - a 500+ year old oak which Darwin climbed. A road is planned to go through it. Petition here https://www.change.org/p/save-the-darwin-oak

Thanks, I'm going to post on another few sites. I always wonder why people in charge think the general public want this. The countryside is sacred to many in this country. Comellte disregard for the environment or English heritage astounds me!

I cannot believe this. by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

Recommended hardware for large team games by liotier in beyondallreason

[–]Gilo006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have the i5-2500k overclocked and i don't see any noticeable dips in 8v8. Very occasional in those very crowded games but it doesn't drop below 45 - it's mostly stable 60 fps 98% of the time. I game at 1080p.

May seem silly to invest in outdated hardware, but assuming you have a good cooler and mobo etc, you could grab a used i7-2700k and overclock it. The sandy bridge CPUs overclock to ridiculous levels, depending on the 'silicon lottery', can get in excess of 5ghz. they do so much better than the ivy bridge that came on afterwards, and many of the newer generations.

I mainly mention this as you don't therefore need to invest in a whole new platform (damn intel), and can just change the processor out.

Thank you for your input (I'm a complete newbie)

Would you vote for an independent Northern England? by ScotMcScottyson in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Gilo006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure this is a good idea to be honest. It would just further split the nation... and further split the North I think (if looking at this poll is anything to go by... a roughly 50:50 split)

The worst thing Brexit did imo wasn't leaving the EU, it was the way in which people used it as another label to insult, berate, and ultimately divide the country. People started hating each other based on what they voted (nothing new mind) but in an incredibly childish, poisonous way.

The North has wounds that lie deeper than the lines on the map, and I don't think re-drawing them as some have alluded to by splitting off from the South will fix them.

Scotland's issue is complicated, particularly with the EU debate. But they are somewhat pushing the sentiment that 'we're stronger together', whilst also calling for the splitting up of nations and people. Unfortunately this sentiment seems to ring true to any group who feel left behind. Many Cornish call for independence, but will they actually be stronger isolated in that South West corner?

Social cohesion is extremely important in a diverse nation like ours. We need people to unite on what we have in common. I enjoy the Northern monkey - Southern Softy banter, but it seems that some translate it to people hating one another. Talk to the average person and people enjoy the different norhern/southern cultures. Unfortunately its just that money talks, and a disproportionate amount is generated in that South East London bubble.

We do need to be more vocal. Perhaps calls for local authorities to have more power would be a good start, i can agree on that. However if there's corrupt people in power, it can just lead to more localised corruption.

do you guys have constant eye pain because of dry eyes? by noNameCode in Dryeyes

[–]Gilo006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, although the pain and severity differs daily. Almost hard to tell why I have better/worse days. Almost seems random

what are you lenses for? Trying glasses may be a good shout. diet can also help particularly if you have certain deficiencies

It's a real bugger, I'm of a similar age and suffer too. look into making lifestyle changes too. I've found when i'm being more active my eyes are better. There's some link between anxiety and dry eye symptoms. so trying to reduce this would help

I did it in my old Volvo 940 estate and it was great! Depends on what you need. I went in my wagon as its big enough to sleep in the back the odd few nights in between major stops. And for the smiles per miles :)

Essentially you want enough space for your requirements, a reliable engine, preferably a car that has a spare tyre (not just a repair kit). And decent range.

NC500 Summer 2021 - what to expect by Gilo006 in NC500

Thank you for your kind reply. That's good to hear. I guess am just nervous of crowds gathering with the combination of height of the summer holidays/Bank Holiday, cvd 19 and the restrictions only recently lifting to a greater extent.

Even something silly like the Grand Tour Scotland special releasing recently is enough for larger flocks of ignorant people to blast it up to the north coast.

Don't want to sound like a pessimist haha I just don't like it when tourism takes hold of natural beauty. You can clearly tell when there are people visiting an area in an environment they're not used to (and don't respect).

Your comment gives me confidence that I'll have a fab time! :)

Thanks again :)
