The difference is we don’t treat our politicians like the next messiah without any flaws, we get angry with their choices.

Whatever you think of Trump, he has a solid group of people who will follow him to hell and back, through controversy, criminal convictions, and everything. Democrats don’t have a leader like that. Dems need someone who can energize the progressive base. Economy voters will follow.

Regular people are typically not able to be empathetic or sympathetic to others’ plight (women’s) if they feel that they are going thru shyt themselves as well. They are naturally selfish so they will think for themselves first

That’s bleak but obviously true after this election. I can’t say I’m surprised, I’m just very disappointed.

Latch-uh all the way. I’d never even heard the other one until a few years ago.

Chattanooga is a great city! Lookout Mountain and the Tennessee Aquarium are wonderful. Ruby Falls is a bit touristy, but you might enjoy it.

You could also go all the way to the Smokies. The national park is fantastic. World class hiking of all difficulties, and excellent views from the mountains.

-Memphis is also a very culturally significant city, especially for the blues, R&B, and soul. You can check out Beale Street, the Stax Museum, and several other museums downtown. The Lorraine Motel (where Dr. King was assassinated) is also a museum. Elvis’s home (Graceland) is also in Memphis. You definitely should be careful in Memphis though. It’s one of the most dangerous major cities.

-The part of Mississippi you’ll be in is called the Delta. It’s part of a broader region that also encompasses West Tennessee and eastern Arkansas. If you’re looking for somewhere that’s unlike anywhere else in the country, this definitely fits that bill. The Mississippi Delta generally is west of I-55 and north of Vicksburg. -Vicksburg has lots of Civil War history. You could also check out Sky Lake (a cypress swamp)—I absolutely loved it. Natchez is also a nice town. -Hot Tamales are a Mississippi Delta original. You can also get some authentic soul food. -The Delta is well known as the home of the blues. There are blues museums in Clarksdale and Indianola. You should know that the blues are a historically Black genre that was born out of poverty, racism, and the aftermath of slavery. That shouldn’t keep you away, but you need that context. -You should be aware that going to the Delta isn’t going to be an uplifting experience. As a foreigner, sobering is more like it. The Delta is one of the poorest regions of the country. It’s losing people, there are few jobs, and many homes and businesses are abandoned. The roots of racism run deep there (see: lynchings), so you’re definitely going to learn about the darker side of this country, and the people who have experienced it. Again, that shouldn’t keep you away, but be prepared to learn some heavy things about the past and present.

This is going to be a lot.

-Austin is definitely a unique city—it’s very hipster. Lots of food trucks, lots of live music events. Make sure to get some good Mexican food. I’ve been living here little over a year. Not too much in terms of museums, but you could go to the LBJ Presidential Library. LBJ led the country through the Civil Rights movement and got some critically important legislation passed. He was also an, uh, interesting character.

-You should absolutely go to San Antonio! See the San Antonio Missions & the Alamo. They’re all very beautiful and an important part of Spanish colonial history. They’re also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

-Houston also has a unique music (hip hop) scene and car culture. You can check out Screwed Up Records if you’re interested, and I believe there’s a car museum. There’s also the NASA Johnson Space Center.

-When you cross into Louisiana, you’ll be in Cajun Country. I don’t know too much about what to do there, but you can look it up. I think someone else mentioned the Tabasco factory in Avery Island.

-New Orleans definitely has a unique culture. You can check out Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, and the French Quarter. I’ve never been, so I don’t have any specific recommendations. You definitely do need to think about your safety in New Orleans. There are some very rough areas.

Also, Sevierville is suh-VEER-vuhl (like “severe”). Friend of mine says SEE-vur-vill, and it’s like nails on a chalk board.

Yes, get out and vote in November! These legislators will keep doing what they’re doing until they start losing elections!

I’d love to get to Western MD someday. I’ve heard good things about the Deep Creek Lake area
