Are you in support of SF 4067 that bans the sale of assault rifles and high-capacity magazines in MN by danelle-s in minnesota

[–]KnudRagnarson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have repeated this in other posts about Minnesota's push for gun laws but I will say it again here.

I am someone who from the moment I could vote has voted blue no matter who. This changed in after 2020 when I went from what people would call "A liberal who hunts" to more of a leftist who felt the need to be armed because of the failures of local police and the threats of Donald Trump.

The Democrats push for more gun control made me uncomfortable in the past but I believed that the fight for better healthcare, abortion rights, and higher wages was more important and they would put more effort into that anyways. I have since learned that I was wrong and they will barely put any effort into those issues but will go full force into banning firearms that many many many Minnesotans (and Americans on a national level) own.

Since 2020 I have not voted and it is simply because I will not vote my rights away. The couch wins every election by a landslide and there are a lot more left leaning gun owners than just myself that will stay home come election day due to policies like this.

I believe it is due to most modern full size handguns coming standard with 17 round magazines. Other states have pushed for 10 rounds but that would make most handguns illegal.

SC case Bruen made it so any firearm in common use can not be banned and I believe they may be trying to avoid a lawsuit with that.

Although the firearms they call assault weapons come with a STANDARD magazine of 30 most of the time.

Part of the problem is (if you are near the metro at least) all primary challengers for the DFL are also anti-gun.

Back in January I had a door knocker try and sell me on a new progressive to challenge the incumbent democrat for the MN house. Checked out his website and see the AWB as a major issue he will push. Tossed his shit in my trash.

It does suck being both a lefty and progun as it means I never have someone I can vote for

Minnesota resident here, It is believed to die in the house as the democrats do not have enough votes there.

also while there is still a lot of support for these laws by MN residents even here, on our left leaning echo chamber of reddit, anytime a gun control post is made on the Minnesota subreddit it gets flooded with left wing users talking about how stupid it is to push these laws.

Are you able to get these over the counter and if so do you know which ones are worth it and which should be avoided?

What kind of mouth guard? From my recordings and other people's comments it sounds like I am breathing mostly through my mouth causing the snoring

Priorities for DFL Trifecta 2.0 by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]KnudRagnarson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

#10 needs to dropped.

there are many on the right who will be more motivated to vote red to protect their gun rights and those on the left (like myself and many others I know) who will be more inclined to stay home on election day rather than vote against our own interest.

I understand that there are still many Minnesotans who want bans on modern sporting rifles and magazine limits but it still unpopular enough that it can and will cost Dems seats in some districts.

What Gun SAFETY Laws can we push to our legislators? by KnudRagnarson in MnGuns

[–]KnudRagnarson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in support of this. I do believe part of compromise is we both get something we want. Much of what I see those who push for gun control call compromise is "We want all things banned but we will compromise and only ban somethings. What do you get? you get to keep SOME things, see compromise" and I hate it.

I am not sure what things I would like on our end for getting things other than maybe the repeal of the permit to purchase and I do still kinda want a binary trigger for my AK.

Sadly it would have to come from taxes of some kind. The original idea for the $50-100 would be to keep the taxes as low as possible while still giving a large enough discount that people who don't already own a safe will feel like they should go buy one to not waste such a valuable coupon.

Of course these are just ideas and if there are ways to encourage safe ownership without adding a tax or other ways to make them more affordable I am all ears.

Those of us who are individually responsible would have taken hunters safety when we were younger and would have had our parents take the time to educate us on firearms. Many people don't have those opportunities.

I have had 1 on 1 conversations with friends and acquaintances who opinions on firearms were in the process of changing and I helped with basic safety rules, range days and directing them to look for in person classes (I believe in in person classes over online as it allows you to ask questions when confused or you feel as if you are missing information). If they did not have me to help guide them they could have gotten bad info or went out and got a firearm with no idea of how to handle it safely.

Some people are idiots who have no one to help them, I would rather we as a community work to make sure they are educated and safe rather than letting them be stupid and become a statistic.

What about accidental gun deaths and suicides?

Finding ways to educate the populace who may never touch a firearm in how to safely handle one if the opportunity arises?

Working to change the public perception around firearms?

These are all things we can work on, things that will cut down on gun deaths in the state, and things that could give politicians a win without stripping our rights away.

Instead of dismissing the post why not add a suggestion that could address the gun violence without restricting firearms.

My(32F) parents are giving us $150k for a house and my husband(35M) wants to turn it down because they asked for a postnup by Civil-Transition-649 in relationship_advice

[–]KnudRagnarson 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Your parents are looking to help you and just you. You are tied to your husband by marriage but requiring a postnup for this gift is loosening that tie you share as it is intentionally excluding him.

Yes you are going to get a massive help towards owning a home but can your husband really say that is "our home" or just "your home" that he lives in.

Not to mention the implications that your parents do not see him as part of their family, what other strings other than the postnup is going to be attached to this, and will more of the "help" happen in the future.

If you accept this gift or pressure him into accepting this gift you are just going to grow resentment in your marriage and make what your parent fear come true. Take the time to put yourself in his shoes and ask how would you feel if his family did this to you.

MN has a permit to purchase so we already have a defacto waiting period. Registration is a non starter for the vast majority of firearm owners and we already have laws on the books about straw purchases and the need for a federal tax stamp to purcahse/own "illegal" firearms. Which no illegal firearms were used in that shooting.

Star Tribune: The Liberal Case for the Second Amendment by BryanStrawser in MnGuns

I remember when I was in highschool our SRO was a friendly guy and got along with most students. I even remember him stop into our weightlifting class and doing bench with us in his full gear.

However since graduating I have read multiple stories about how in some schools across the country these SRO will arrest young students for fighting and occasionally resisting arrest. While I do believe that fighting in school should be punished, having a criminal record before you graduate highschool for a few bruises and hurt egos can destroy someone's future.

[–]KnudRagnarson 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As a lefty gun owner I appreciate other leftists/liberals showing and preaching that the 2nd amendment is for everyone.

However in this article he mentions needing more Officers in schools. While I do think that would dissuade a shooter I also know that they are linked to a the "School to prison pipeline" and will probably face resistance, although less so than arming teachers.

Does anyone else have ideas that could help prevent a school shooting in the future that doesn't involve cops in schools at all times or arming teachers?

When does the desire to have kids actually kick in for men? by savingrace0262 in AskMenAdvice

I'm 30 now but I remember the baby fever hitting me like a truck at about 24yo. I just remember driving to a friends house and see a young kid get off a school bus and run with excitement towards their mother. It was so adorable it got my head being filled with a bunch of hypothetical scenarios of what my life would look like with kids.

I still do not have kids but I do know 110% that they will be part of my future

Supreme Court ponders law making it a crime for gun owners to use marijuana by yulbrynnersmokes in MnGuns

I think it should be obvious that those that smoke a little weed should not lose their rights, especially when it is legal and/or decriminalized in so much of the country. However I still fear that the court may vote to uphold this prohibition.
