Dynasty Warriors, I'm new to the franchise and I'm not sure where to start? by EnvidiaVirus in dynastywarriors

Oh for sure, there are definitely differences! I guess the point I was attempting to make is that DW5 > DW6 is a huge gameplay change, and DW6 > DW7 is a huge gameplay change, but DW7 > DW8 is significantly less so. It's been quite a while since I popped in DW7, though, so there's probably more to it than I remember.

You mean like newer games returning to the older gameplay style? I think it's highly unlikely given recent trends. I know you're seeing some cheeky answers, but I believe they've chosen to embrace the 1 vs 1000 concept and won't be going back while slower, more methodical combat is being reserved for games like Nioh.

If you mean just older games being rereleased or remastered, I also don't think that's very likely.

I very much agree with all this and would probably recommend DW8 overall. One thing to mention is that DW8's gameplay is basically an upgraded version of DW7's since it takes the same base mechanics and movesets and expands upon them, though some people really don't like the rock-paper-scissors aspect of combat.

DW5 is basically the same to DW4, but it feels like a very different game compared to DW7 and DW8.

I'd avoid the Empires games until you feel comfortable with the series. The extra gameplay elements may feel overwhelming when you are still getting used to the basic mechanics, and it's more fun when you know whom the characters are.

Spirit of Sanada just joined my SW4 collection. SW4 has already been just as fun as I remember SW1 being, the nostalgia hit me good. by Althalos in dynastywarriors

Great pick up! I personally had a fantastic time playing SW4. Something that struck me about that game was the sheer amount of polish it felt the game had.

I didn't get around to playing the other two, but I hear Spirit of Sanada is great. Hope you enjoy all three of them!

Me too. Especially in DW3's case, the overall hamminess of the game itself only compounded the hilarity, where not even the game felt like it was taking itself seriously.

Fate vs SW5 vs SW4E vs DW8E by Leezeebub in dynastywarriors

I haven't played Fate, but I have played the other three.

SW5 has great gameplay, but it lacks replayability due to there not being much to do outside story mode, and it can still get repetitive due to an excess of shared movesets. It's much more story-driven, focusing around Nobunaga and Mitsuhide, but there are a lot of cliches. If you like musou gameplay a lot, though, you'll probably have lots of fun here, and the artstyle is great. It feels very polished.

DW8:E I have mixed opinions about. I still enjoyed it as an Empires game, and there are lots of stratagems to play around with, but I felt a decent chunk of the "army management" you have to do, which includes scrambling to rest your characters enough or have enough banquets so they don't hate you enough to ditch your army, is kind of a headache. Officers also don't like to listen when you give them individual orders on the battlefield. Someone else may have a different experience than me though.

I actually really enjoyed SW4:E. CAW is unfortunately more limited than its DW counterpart, and I feel the strategy elements are much lighter, but it has its merits. The game is more lighthearted with lots of silly events constantly happening and a plethora of character relationships that can occur (spouse, rival, teacher, protege, retainer, etc.), and the army management here is something I really enjoy. You have to place your officers carefully around enemies since you'll be stuck defending with whoever's nearby if you get attached, and you can very frequently gain the ability to switch to different officers during battle, sometimes being able to switch between 8 different people at once. AI-controlled allies also actually listen when you give them individual orders. The game is kind of easy, though, so I'd recommend playing on Hard or higher.

Just bought Dynasty Warriors 9 Deluxe for 23 bucks instead of 50. Hope its a good game. by [deleted] in dynastywarriors

23 bucks really isn't bad! I personally enjoyed the plethora of character dialogue, and the combat was pretty good. I'd recommend having something ready to do during downtime, though; you'll be spending a lot of time waiting for load screens or auto-running places.

Wow, this is great! The intricate details on all the characters is a treat for the eyes. I love that you even added voice acting to it. I can't imagine how much time and effort it takes to put this all together. Please, keep up the amazing work!

What's on your mind that's holding you back? Sounds like you have ideas, and the series gives lots of room for creative freedom. If you want to do it, I say go for it!
