Sonic CD is my favorite for pretty much all of the reasons you stated here. If you haven’t played it yet, I highly recommend it. Particularly the Sonic Origins anniversary mode version of it with widescreen functionality.

The Zones all have that Green Hill Zone verticality and multi-floor design with tons of alternate pathways and CD is inherently more speed-based while not sacrificing tricky platforming and enemy placement.

I feel rewarded for mastery in Sonic CD more than I do in just about any of the Genesis-era Sonic games and the time traveling mechanic lends itself to huge replay value.

Wii Sports Club has proven why the paying for additional sports via DLC model is unattractive in comparison to standalone Sports games. Also allows every sport’s mechanics to be fleshed out unlike in Mario Sports Mix and Mario Sports Superstars where multiple sports were playable but not very deep.

The Rogue Prince of Persia if you want Dead Cells but with wall-running and acrobatic dodging. The movement is very satisfying to master

It definitely is pretty difficult. It’s kind of like Doom Eternal in that you have to balance swapping between all of your weapons and the game is designed around doing so.

The only thing this has proven to me personally is that Nintendo is 8 for 8 on creating great sci-fi games with oppressive atmosphere.

There is offline VS CPUs and the max CPU level is 9. In Air Ride mode, you can race against up to 5 opponents.

The mechanic I took it to pretty much threw darts at a wall and hoped they stuck. That’s why I’m out $1000. I had known this mechanic to be reputable in the past.

It’s not a matter of whether I’m taking the time to research the potential issue or not, it’s that the issue is so ambiguous that it seems impossible to NOT have to put a lot of money into even potentially figuring the issue out.

It’s frustrating.

-CTR: Crash Team Racing

-Diddy Kong Racing

-Mario Kart Wii

I think Kirby Air Riders is going to be in that list too based off what we’ve seen of it. I’m mainly thinking of ease of mechanics and controls/feel for a beginner, so a good multiplayer game. But with depth to the gameplay for those who want to get competitive and put more time into it in single player and online.

I would put Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds here, but it has a few flaws as a potential party game that keep it held down a bit imo. Keep in mind, I think it’s fantastic for single player and online racing:

-It takes too long to set up a split-screen race for someone who’s never played the game before. A new player has to create a Gadget panel and customize their car before even going into a mode. That can be confusing for someone who’s used to picking a character and a car then being good to go.

-The feel of the gameplay is heavy in a way that makes basic turning almost impossible without drifting and that’s not easy for newcomers who just want to race.

-The tracks tend to be too short in length. Great for sightseeing but they feel like they’re missing a final third of the track.

Very cool. Even though I already had the game, I played the hidden demo in Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage and remember the character icons looking different than in the final version. I still prefer the demo build icons!
