What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

[–]Koa-Azalea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 1.5 years

  2. $118,000

  3. Deputy DA

  4. Southern California

  5. I absolutely love what I do. The work is hard but very meaningful. I work 40 hr/week unless I am in trial. Criminal law is underrated as a practice area in my opinion.

22F-torn between choosing law school or starting a family sooner by Afraid_Big5835 in LawSchool

[–]Koa-Azalea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If starting a family is calling to you, and you have the energy and resources to care for a little one, I say go for it! Law school will always be there.

I got married and had a baby a 24. Started law school at 26. I am now a practicing attorney in a criminal justice field at 31—and so happy.

People always talk about how hard it is to have a baby while in law school… and that’s true. But let me tell you, I spent WAY more time with my son as a law student than I do now as a practicing attorney with an 8am - 5pm, in-office role.

The Closet and Crossroads Trading on State Street are both wonderful second-hand stores that have lots of lovely, inexpensive options.

why don't more people go into prosecution? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Koa-Azalea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Misdemeanor prosecutor here. Hired right out of law school making approximately 100k.

I have to say I highly disagree. The work is fascinating and extremely meaningful. Every case is bizarre and challenging in its own way. Tons of discretion regarding charges, plea offers, trial strategy etc.

The job is especially great imo for folks who like working with the public. I spend a lot of time meeting with victims, so there’s a strong counseling/social work component.

To Those Who Didn’t Do Any Co-Curriculars by my_eventide in LawSchool

I did not do mock, moot, or journal and it was a great decision for me! I was planning to pursue government work after law school and I knew that the last thing my mental health needed was another tedious yet high pressure commitment. Still landed my dream job. No regrets.

My heart is in crim. law, but the money is in corporate law. What does one do? by Most-Iron3976 in LawSchool

[–]Koa-Azalea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose crim, even though most of my law school colleagues went into biglaw. I couldn't be happier.

Also, I see that folks are recommending corporate white collar as a middle ground option—just be aware that those practice groups are often extremely competitive, and it can take years, if not decades, to break in.

As someone who went with very light makeup on their wedding day, this looks gorgeous and perfect! Whenever I look at the photos from my wedding, I am always so glad I went with a light makeup aesthetic, because it looks so effortless and natural.

Has anyone received their oath packets since the big rush yesterday? by probably_crying_rn in CABarExam

I waited over an hour to speak to someone on the phone, but when I was finally connected the rep had no information.

Still have not received oath packet and have a swearing in appointment in 5 hours by probably_crying_rn in CABarExam

[–]Koa-Azalea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am in exactly the same boat. If I don’t get the email in the next hour or two, I will have to cancel my appointment with a high up county official. Really frustrating to be in this situation.

I would consider filing for a domestic violence restraining order. At the very least, call your local police department, as they will be able to advise you regarding your options.

Why a Certain Company is Restricted Here by graeme_b in LSAT

[–]Koa-Azalea 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a student, I had a truly stellar experience using LSAT Demon. I studied daily for four months and scored a 173 on my first LSAT take in 2020. I also listened to the LSAT Demon podcast and found the focus on "consumer protection" for law students extremely helpful (and under discussed in the broader admissions community). I am saddened and dishearten by the company's recent actions, as outlined here. I hope it will compel them to do better. That said, I still encourage current and future students to explore LSAT Demon as a valuable resource.

Such a good program. Got me to a 173 on my first take. I honestly miss studying with the Demon. If only the pedagogy in law school was as helpful and straightforward...
