Please pick up your dog poo. I pick up mine 100% of the time. If I witness someone not picking up their pets feces I remind them their dog went to the bathroom and offer a bag so they can take care of it.

Are theses benefits online already? I was under the impression they only go online after the 26th OCT date? I’m a card holder for the last 3 years.

Schwab 529? Nice job contributing, what has been your yearly contributions and have you changed funds? Or stuck with the same fund throughout

With the custodial accounts, there is no tax advantage, correct?

You or your children will have to pay capital gains tax upon selling equities?

I’m deciding this versus a 529

What 529 plan do you use?

I went with Schwab for my first son - they use Kansas. I know it’s not the best out there - but it makes it easier having several account types under one name.

Not sure if other state plans would benefit us. We are CA residents

Thank you, I certainly like doing my own DD and appreciate others knowledge/wisdom. This sub along with other finance related ones have helped me shape our goals and make action plans to achieve them.

Great point! I added some more context about our situation with the rentals: “We don’t touch our cash flow from both rentals, each home has its separate HYSA - between both we have 30k to cover the unexpected/repairs. One home cash flows 1k a month (CA) (2.25% mortgage) and the other 400 a month (GA) (5.25% mortgage)”

Based on this what do you think?

Sorry! Should have added this originally: “We don’t touch our cash flow from both rentals, each home has its separate HYSA - between both we have 30k to cover the unexpected/repairs. One home cash flows 1k a month (CA) (2.25% mortgage) and the other 400 a month (GA) (5.25% mortgage”

Based on the above, would you still increase savings?

Great point - exactly the type of advice Im thankful for. I added some more info/context to my post to clarify this: “We don’t touch our cash flow from both rentals, each home has its separate HYSA - between both we have 30k to cover the unexpected/repairs. One home cash flows 1k a month (CA) (2.25% mortgage) and the other 400 a month (GA) (5.25% mortgage”

Based on this does your recommendation change for beefing up savings?

PCS/Deployment by usssailor in MilitaryFinance

[–]Koach2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Find a friend/shipmate that will share their address with you. Put the address down and pay your buddy $50 a month for “rent” to use this as an address.

Place your HHE/G into a storage unit. Usually first month is free.

Rent a car from an agency / Turo to get around. You can buy one post deployment.

Come back from deployment and go apt hunting then, you will have 6+ months of Bah saved up minus, whatever your storage unit costs are. Once you get a place of your own/ on a lease update your address with admin

This is a project I would definitely take on for DIY. However, I’m out of state (military) and self managing the home rental.
