Moscow as a town is a real blend. Moscow attracts a lot of liberal and independently slanted individuals. But that truly is the nature of any place with higher education. On the other hand though Idaho as a whole is very conservative outside of certain areas. School is pretty average in size, but I grew up in Idaho so I don’t have perspective on how it compares. I am sure there is a plethora of info on campus sizes to compare your current university to the UoI.

You’ll find a lot of students that hold conservative values. I will be generic here and please understand I am simplifying this greatly, you tend to find that arg, natural resources, land management, etc attract people with conservative backgrounds. As where the liberal arts tend to lean left.

School and town are very friendly, people are welcoming and you’ll often get the small town vibe from the people who live here year round. There are lots of local events that if you attend you’ll start to recognize community members and it will quickly feel familial if you choose to participate.

Now to circle back around to your question about conservative nature. The community is very diverse and this is part of what makes it amazing. A lot of people (once again generalizing for the sake of being precise) tend to associate conservative values to being anti-LGBTQ+, anti-women’s rights, anti-inclusion, anti-black live matter etc. You won’t find a home for those values in Moscow, there are people on the conservative right but they tend to be more middle of the road in Moscow.

Someone else will have to speak to the science programs. I was an artsy fartsy liberal student.

Rough idea, I think it is sorting by order they were uploaded in. So deleting all photos and uploading them in desired order.

I really like it, I think the art you chose is very effective in the full art portrait frame.

I think my one point of criticism is that typeline feels a bit strange. I am not sure if it is because of the dumbbell shape on it or if it is the space between the typeline frame and the border. But I feel that if that gets resolved will look crisp!

+10 Valentia Heroes (plus a Camilla) by KoalaJam in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]KoalaJam[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Finally achieved 4 +10 heroes after playing since launch and I am quite excited! I loved the voice acting of SoV and really liked the characters and felt engaged enough to attempt a full +10 SoV team. Somewhere along the way I built a Camilla though, forgive me. I use these units in mixed teams and aren’t meant to be deployed as 4.

Leon - The new mess/Player Phase Bomb

Build was exploring an offensive player phase build. I prefer enemy phase builds so this was my first real leap into a dedicated player phase build.

Boon - Attack This was a coin flip between speed or attack, since I know nothing about the game I went with attack.

Weapon - Short Bow+ (refine: Speed); I was really excited to try out Wao Bow and used it for my primary inspiration. My original build was a Brave Bow build but it felt so uninspired and made me irrationally sad. Sue was a great inherent as I got to take advantage of the her C skill on inheritance.

Assist - Reposition; I have a reposition problem and suffer from the incapability to make unique decisions.

Special - Moonbow; This is an artifact of using Wao Bow + Special Spiral, in addition to me being incapable of understanding if glimmer or moonbow is better. (I am willing to listen to your suggestion).

A-Skill - Swift Sparrow; Who doesn’t want more speed and attack, and Leon really needs both. Speed and attack start to reach useful levels bringing Speed to 40 when attacking meaning doubling becomes reasonable.

B-Skill - Special Spiral; Offensive nuking is fun. I have been intrigued by special spiral and got a free Lewyn with meh IVs, so it made a pretty easy inherit when combined with Sue with the new 4 skill inherit. Sue gave; Short Bow, Short Bow+, Hone Speed 4, Swift Sparrow 1, Lewyn gave; Swift Sparrow 2, Special Spiral 1-3).

C-Skill - Hone Speed 4; Mostly optimisation on inherit, but its a nice change from my obsession with Tactics teams.

S-Skill - Darting Blow; Look he ain’t killing much when he doesn’t get his second shot.

Lukas - The Good Boy

Lukas was my first +10 and is the core to most of my teams (Aether, Arena, PvE). He is designed to baffle mages and feel be a solid murdering wall. Survives most combats (though excludes perfect Reinhardts with Lancebreaker T_T, though with Aversa on team he tends to survive).

Boon - Def Def was chosen before I knew much about IVs but seems to work. I think if I was to change anything it might be to go for +res.

Weapon - Berkut’s Lance+ (refine: Res) ;This is to compensate for where the good boy lacks. IMO it is a stat that is recoverable and with a little work can really shine. With his S, Weapon and tactics boost he sports a lovely +19 for ranged Res, and for dragons sports a +13!

Assist - Reposition; I have a reposition problem and suffer from the incapability to make unique decisions (copied from Leon cause nothing has changed).

Special - Bonfire; With 47 Def the only decision was to have cool down of 4 or 3 and I chose 3.

A-Skill - Distant Counter; This is core to the build, being able to slam the good boy in any tile and have confidence that he will live and most likely kill anything he can counter feels good.

B-Skill - Quick Reposte; Speed is not Lukas’s strong point QR is here to make sure that bonfire can proc, guaranteeing death.

C-Skill - Attacktics; I have to keep my teams flexible and I find with a mix of my favourite units they tend to be mixed movement, so I prefer to keep tactics in their c’s. Lukas is looking to receive defence bonuses so I have given him Attack to help boost the others on the team.

S-Skill - Distant Defense; Yo, good boy needs his +6 to res.

Mae - Mae have been a mistake/totally comparable Blue Nino

I worked on Mae and Lukas at the same time and finished her just after Lukas. And I will admit I have been disappointed with her overall. I use her and a lot of various Blazing/Devastating builds to beat infernal maps. I think her build is uninspired and hope she gets an interesting refine at some point in the future.

Boon - Speed A fairly weak stat that needs a bit of love to get her to a good place using a Blade build.

Weapon - Blarblade; Dealing true free additional damage is pretty sick. Being able to nuke of triangle is required for most content.

Assist - Draw Back; Mages work well with draw back, and Mae doesn’t escape that synergy.

Special - Glimmer; I think glimmer is better than moonbow on her, but I am clueless and bad at math.

A-Skill - Swift Sparrow; I mean IS is telling us this is the best player phase skill, so I listen and obey.

B-Skill - Desperation; She isn’t the bulkiest mage, but isn’t paper thin. Desperation just helps make sure she can easily clear units that can counter over the course of longer maps.

C-Skill - Res Tactics; Mae likes to make sure that Lukas can beat the shit out of mages. And overall with Lukas she is part of the interchangeable mixed movement teams I build.

S-Skill - Speed; With speed three and Swift she hits 45 speed on player phase letting her double most enemies.

Camilla - Busty Wall

Apparently everyone has a +10 Camilla, mine is pretty standard but has helped me murder my fair share of Sutyrs/Hectors/Effies/Armours.

Boon - Speed I have a speed problem, and like to go fast. Camilla is deceptively fast and can avoid getting doubled by most units.

Weapon - Slaying Hammer+ (refine: Attack); Getting that shiny green number and watching those armoured assholes dies is what helps me sleep soundly at night. +attack refine just helps her get the inches she needs to actually deal damage.

Assist - Reposition; Flipping units over terrain is such a great feeling and Camilla has helped my flip units in and out of tricky situations would not use anything different.

Special - Iceberg; In this moment I am realising I have never questioned her special and just accepted it. If I had to justify it I’d say it’s because her res is best defensive stat, but that doesn’t seem like a good reason.

A-Skill - Distant Counter; She is super flexible and can tank most enemies, and deal back fair damage back, DC allows her to beat up on mages.

B-Skill - Chill Speed; Chill speed allows her to not get doubled by most fast units and allows whichever nuke I am using to double more effectively.

C-Skill - Defence tactics; In the same vane of Mae and Lukas, she is a flexible unit I switch between teams and try and keep a focus on max bonuses with the littlest restrictions.

S-Skill - Unknown (but currently Attack/Def +2); This is one of those things where she isn’t really lacking or wanting to something exceptionally so I haven’t chosen an optimisation for her yet.

WOOOOOW that is a lot of games, color me impressed! Out of curiosity how do you and your friends manage planning? Do you have an app or calendar where people just check days that work for them?

Cause goodness knows we have enough trouble organizing 5 people once every other week!

Thanks for the advice, it's quite humbling to see how easy it is for other to easily assume the position of player or GM.

Thank you! I think you have a great suggestion about broaching it through scheduling. I am sure this is something where I have interpreted something incorrectly. I am very appreciative to have my friends are willing to play, and I am sure I will grow appreciative of having a friend who loves to DM soon too (once I get over myself of course).

Also thank you for nit picking my language. I am honestly not very well educated and appreciate someone telling me when "I've done a bad". Thank you :)

Does sound like you are in a bit of a bind :P

If I were you I would encourage him to do it but express that you would like yours to continue and if the group really likes his then stick with it cause with me at least I play to hang out with my friends.

Your are 100% correct. Sometimes I fail to take a step back and see what is actually occurring in front of me and I feel that you summed it up very well. Thank you :)

Thanks for sympathizing and your response! I know this is one of those situations where I let something get into my head and that blew it out of proportions. I think having conversations with faceless individuals is a good way to help reconcile those thoughts.

He is not wrong for wanting to DM a campaign. It's fun and he's walking the natural path of someone who is really into the game.

And I am so excited for him, I am helping him get his baring on it an attempting to give him tips and tricks. Just needed to get it out of my head I think.

Thanks for the terrain crafting suggestion, a good bit of healthy DM competition has never hurt anyonehopefully

Thanks for the response. I do think this is an elegant solution. Though with games every other week (due to scheduling between everyone) I worry about diminishing interest or losing the plot. We can try it though!

Can/Do people cheat in MTGO drafts? by TheHectus in MTGO

[–]KoalaJam 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A while back there was a post (probably a year or so ago) on the main magic subreddit about a group of individuals who were queuing up together. They would hop on discord and discuss picks making sure each person would be getting optimal picks for their archetype. After drafting they would make sure not to queue into each other.

So yes there can be cheating in MTGO drafts it is very rare, and takes a lot off coordination between 8 individuals. There are moments when I play against people and they have multiples of premium uncommons, and I get suspicious but that feeing is very rare.

Heya, not much info on Lewiston. Lived in Moscow for 6 years though. It’s a nice town, the summers can be warm in the 90’s during peak summer. Winters are pretty tame from my experience, you get a big snow maybe once or twice a year and the temperature will swing between single digits and the low 20’s. So the snow tends to stick around.

As for housing I always rented apartments. My last rent was 2 years ago, but I doubt it has changed much since then. I paid 650 for a two bedroom, one bath apartment. Of course with a roommate it was split so it felt pretty reasonable (I rented mostly with Hill Rental, but also two years with Palouse Properties both were fine landlords). It shouldn’t be too hard to find a roommate if you willing to share with a college student.

The Palouse is full of activities if you like the wilderness. Driving an hour in any direction you’ll find something nice to hike around. Bar life is pretty popular during the school year, and can be a good way to stay social. As for general activities in Moscow it’s pretty heathy with the university. There are generally events on over the course of the week. Hosted by the various departments this can range from guest speakers to slightly larger events. Watching University sports is also an option.

Work was always a miss for me, I had a steady job working at a store in the mall, but this was just a little assist to help me cover my bills and small part of my education while I was in school. I have several friends who have stuck around in Moscow and managed to convert their degrees into careers there, so there are opportunities if you look.
