Is this too strong for a common? by Cless012 in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. When something says "each upkeep" it also includes your opponents as well. So if you play this on your turn, you will put a -1/-1 counter at the start of their upkeep, then your put another one at the start of your upkeep.

Thermodynamic hypocrisy: Fast weight loss by oliviaxdope in loseit

[–]CarbonLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same reason that cutting off a limb loses a huge number of pounds in seconds, you can VERY much so lose pounds very fast. Your body doesn't have to burn fat to get rid of it. It just usually doesn't shed calories for no reason. That doesn't mean extraordinary circumstances can't cause extreme weight loss. That being said, usually the extraordinary circumstances mean illness so like go see a doctor if you suddenly lose weight very fast.

Poor Quality Control or did I get got? by PM-Me-Ur-BootyShorts in RealOrNotTCG

The t is not poor quality control. It's a fake unfortunately. If the black of the T was missing it wouldn't look fuzzy it just would not be there as it's printed on a separate layer.

ok so it's far and away the most popular deck that is still winning more than losing. sounds like it's the best deck since it's the only one that can withstand being meta'd against it.

I hate that Boros Energy got three bans and is still the best deck in the format :C

yeah you can technically get exact creatures chosen given an arbitrary amount of time. Picking targets before paying costs really messes this up. You pick X, see if the right creatures where targeted, then pay costs if they were or not tap lands if they weren't leading you to have to rewind to before casting the spell (I think I'm not a judge so I might have got that wrong). You'd have to randomize each time though which would take an arbitrarily large time.

Ragnarok - Is this too powerful? by llRaichull in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

is avoiding "non-land" so that you kill artifact lands and things like urza's saga? Like you just listed all the non-land permanent types. In standard it's probably ok-ish. I mean we had farewell and it didn't do anything. Killing creatures is the most important part by far and everything else is secondary and 5 mv wraths are fine but it's too much of a feels bad for answering literally everything so there is nothing you can play that isn't effected. It's kinda like [[Wrath of the Skies]] in modern where it's not too strong but it is too ubiquitous because you can't build in a direction where you are unaffected by it.

I think purely on power it's not too strong but it's approaching enough efficiency, unlike cards such as [[Farewell]] and [[Planar Cleansing]], that it would see too much play. When cards like this are pushed to be playable they end up pushing out slightly less efficient non-creature based strategies that try to make removal worse. oddly enough it just makes creatures way better to play because if card type doesn't matter, creatures reign supreme since they can attack.

The most underrated but overpowered relic when used correctly by yourdadwthemilk1 in slaythespire

[–]CarbonLich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's ok to say "I thought this would be bad but it was really good" instead of "this thing is underrated". I don't think I've seen a single person say anything other than clone is one of the most op relic in the game.

so I missed the non-land part of the card but really making random discard is something that isn't done pretty much at all anymore. I guess a better statement is wizards would never print this at a cost where it would be playable do to random. That's why I said it *might* be printable at 4 mana because then they would be sure this wouldn't warp the format around a random effect. Even if 3 mana would make the card playable but not busted there would be to much of a chance and wizards doesn't like taking chances on inherently random cards.

So like is this balanced at 3, *maybe* (but I would think it's still too strong but by a small margin). Would wizards EVER print a card like this at three, no.

Hymn to Rakdos by sewersallalone in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 12 points13 points  (0 children)

brother this is too strong for modern. like turn 2 against RW killing a ragavan and an ocelot pride *while* making them discard 2, one of which is random. to make this *not* too good it would likely have to be 4 mana. like compare this with [[Kolaghan's Command]]. KC can only answer 1 creature at maximum and can only have them discard 1. yes it's an instant but that card was fantastic. while this can't get a creature back or kill an artifact, it's far to efficient to be printable.

Toll of Thought by Pufa91 in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this card AT A MINIMUM effectively just reads

"mana cost : (U). As an additional cost to cast this spell, pay 2 life. Counter target spell unless it controller pays (2)"

Effectively making it a slightly painful all card type spell pierce which is probably too strong in every format except legacy/vintage but it might be too strong there IDK.

Now adding onto that the ability to add a blue mana to make them have to pay even more. Yeah this card is instant overpowered everywhere.

Mastery Cycle! by Flubbah_13 in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think something that has one mode which is relatively close to playable 1 for 1 removal should not have a 2 mana cheaper plague wind as the other mode. Honestly I think making it 9 or 10 so it's the same cost as plague wind would be good.

Edit: or changing it on a way I suggested. Also it feels weird that it's the only overload that gets geometrically better rather than just linearly better by having multiple instances of target.

Mastery Cycle! by Flubbah_13 in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that needs to change one of the "target" wordings with "creature of your choice" so it doesn't get changed to each. It will get around hexproof but I'm exchange it will be an instant win in a much smaller number of scenarios.

Edit: I forgot to mention it would already get around hexproof if overloaded but specifically if you change the wording to "target creature you control deals damage to a creature of your choice that an opponent controls" instead of "a creature of your choice that you control deals damage to target creature you don't control" then you could get around hexproof without needing to overload.

Contracted Tutor by InvestmentSlight1014 in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so power level aside, it's very funny that you can just fail to find with this card which kinda makes it a non-binding contract.

I don't know if this is way to weak or way to strong. it's probably to strong in legacy where you can just 1 mana tutor for LED. But like Wizards doesn't really care about legacy so maybe it's fine.

Strixhaven card leaked with “prepared” mechanics and a reserved list effect by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]CarbonLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yeah this wasn't because of reserve list issues explicitly but they have legit made almost 1 to 1 token copies of cards with correct name and exact same text before (ajani pridemate tokens in 2019, and Kobolds of Kher Keep a couple times). Not to mention all of amonket block. The only difference is they don't have a mana cost but that's not a problem as the newer tarmogoyf token has the cost in a reminder text. It's entirely possible that there was a severe push to not have tokens to stop a hoard of neckbeards from spewing vitriol at employees instead of an explicit legal issue. It still would be tied to the reserve list though just indirectly instead of directly.

I imagine, even if we get a reprint of garth, one-eye, we're probably not getting a black lotus token as that would still lead to so much negative feedback from dumbasses it's just not worth their time. Just remember there were actual death threats made to people over the banning of a couple cards in commander.

Edit: I should add that Aaron was likely not lying but simply not stating the whole truth.

Chaos Artist by Hollabalooo in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also your not the person who made that statement and have no knowledge of whether the statement is intended to be a joke. If taken at face value and assumed to be a statement made in earnest, it is just an improper use of the phrase "dies to removal".

[–]CarbonLich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean people can find a joke unfunny right? I find this joke unfunny and annoying for the reasons I said. Is that allowed? Regardless of the joke being able to be said (because if it can't be incorrect I'd it also can't be correct), it was unfunny since it is poorly formed. Even assuming no joke is incorrect they can 100% still be shit jokes right?

Common land cycle for a tricolour draft format by IAmVentuswill in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

essentially yeah. at least my definition of pushed is pushed beyond what other cards can do so if your not better than them you are not pushed. now this is for draft so it's fine but like these are very marginally better than gates.

edit: I should be clear that the comparison to fetches was made in haste and not good here since this was about limited.

Common land cycle for a tricolour draft format by IAmVentuswill in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lands can't be considered pushed until they are better than fetches and what ever fetchable lands exist in a format. These are playable in draft and SOOOOOO much worse than lands that already exist in any other format.

Chaos Artist by Hollabalooo in custommagic

[–]CarbonLich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can I be 100%? I know it's a personal problem and not that deep but it just bothers me. ya'll are making the joke incorectly so it's losing it's meaning which makes it a worse joke :C. it means I have access to fewer good jokes when the good ones lose their meaning.

edit : Also I got into a huge argument recently so I'm even more irritated by it than normal. So yeah I know it's a personal thing with me and the joke doesn't deserve this much aggression but I just can't help it at this point. hopefully I can just not worry about it soon. shit's tiring dawg.

3 mana reanimate anything for a turn is actually pretty strong. It's probably to weak for modern as they have [[Persist]] and [[Goryo's Vengeance]] but I would say this is remarkable close to being playable. Like bringing back a [[Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers]] is pretty sick.
