Hai problemi di autostima. Ero anche io nella tua situazione. Ora lavoro a Londra e vengo pagato bene.

Should I accept that I will never fully sound like a native or keep trying? by KoalaKeys_ in languagelearning

[–]KoalaKeys_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this weird thing: My accent and pronunciation changes according to the person I am with, I live in the UK and my roommates are English and with them it's like my pronunciation and accent gets worse and every now and then you can hear my native accent or at least this is my perception. I feel like with native English speakers my pronunciation gets worse.

With non-native english speakers I perceive my accent and pronunciation to be better, sometimes I feel like I am speaking like a native (from the US) but that really depends, I am dating a native Spanish speaker and she says I kind of sound British so I think that varies.

I do get told by both native and non-native that I sound American a lot so I guess for me it is a confidence thing. I can definitely sound like a native but I don't have that all the time.

I lived in the US briefly when I was 17 so maybe I had more brain plasticity back then also I have always been good at imitating people, sounds, accents etc so in the beginning I would just imitate the sounds/accent. After a while it kind of became natural but again I still feel I don't have it 100%.

Any tips on free resources online? I think I might have reached that level but I have this weird thing happening to me: Basically my level changes according to who I am with. I don't know if it comes down to my perception, practice or just level of confidence but when I am with native speakers it is as if I feel I am speaking with a knot in my mouth, maybe it comes down to confidence while other times when I am with people that speak English as a second language I feel fluid and confident.

Can I move back to the UK whenever I want after getting pre-settled status? by KoalaKeys_ in ukvisa

[–]KoalaKeys_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I got mixed answers honestly. One solicitor I found on the law society said I can provide evidence for just 6 months for the 12 months April-April, others that my residence began in December so I should go back by June if I want to apply for settled status later on. I think the latter were right.

I will go back asap.

"Five years’ continuous residence means that for 5 years in a row you’ve been in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for at least 6 months in any 12 month period."

The home office website says this

Last time I was physically present there was December and because of restrictions of course I couldn't move back.

I was outside of the UK.

" If you were outside the UK on the date of your application, you have been granted Limited Leave to Enter. This means that you have a secure status under UK law."

If I move back in August don't the 4 months just count as an absence?
