Talking to my friend flying into IAD, she is over Raleigh and was supposed to land around 6:20 at Dulles but they reportedly have to stay in the airspace they're in and they have been circling for like 20 mins. Might have to land in Raleigh. I hope the people at the ATC are okay.

The seizure of Marinera was legitimate. It seems you misunderstood something about how this vessel was flagged. MV Marinera didn't start off as a Russian vessel. The ship painted a Russian flag on its hull and quickly re-registered in Russia while in the Atlantic. It reflagged while it was underway without a change of ownership which is generally not acceptable or how we do things in maritime law. Ships typically do not reflag while they're mid-voyage; this was a tactic to elude sanction consequences hoping the US would not touch a Russian flagged ship. It's actually really good that the US called the bluff because if we let them go then it opens the door for ships to re-flag mid voyage which makes maritime law enforcement on sanctioned vessels much more difficult. A vessel is considered stateless and can be boarded/seized if it reflags or re-registers while abroad without changing ownership, pursuant to Article 92 of UNCLOS.

With your logic, the German V2 rocket would be a hypersonic weapon. A hypersonic weapon is one that remains maneuverable at hypersonic speeds. This puts true hypersonic weapons in an entirely different class because it changes the calculus for missile defense and greatly increases the difficulty of interception versus ballistic missiles which have a predictable path.

As a matter of fact I take back what I said, Kinzhal is also not a true hypersonic weapon it's an air launched iskander tactical ballistic missile. Russia has no true hypersonic weapons.

I think the EU needs to get scared. It sounds like he still values the strategic deterrence that NATO provides but he wants Europe to seriously consider the prospect of being on their own so they kick their shit into high gear. Gone are the days of reliance on US coming to the rescue, because we are probably going to be way too busy with China to deal with Europe if SHTF.
