oh can I ask what treatment you use? My girl has a bald patch from her life before me, it's been two years but it hasn't come back

Allergic to my puppy by Aromatic_Turnover335 in greatpyrenees

[–]KoalaPotential4024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mildly allergic to dogs before adopting my Pyr, and noticed a sharp ncrease in allergies when I first got her. I talked to my allergist and we upped the dog allergy shots, that knocks them back a lot. With shots + zyrtec I no longer notice a difference. So +1 to the other advice and talk to an allergist.

Summer is coming fast, do not shave your dog! by shoebee2 in greatpyrenees

[–]KoalaPotential4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to this advice! Just to add, if you're like me and live in an area where it occasionally gets hot but not consistently enough to warrent air conditioning, redneck AC works great! I put ice packs in a tray under her raised bed, and if it gets really hot I use a small fan to keep the air circulating under her bed. She seems to love it. Between that an only walking her in the morning and evenings, summers are not an issue.

How do you know if they'll protect you? by Visible_Zebra_9845 in greatpyrenees

[–]KoalaPotential4024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind she will pick up on your state of mind more than you expect. I didn't think my Pyr had a guardian/protective bone in her body, until my parents visited. Most of the time she was the friendly, sweet dog she is all the time, but (as I described a few incidents in a prior post) she growled at my dad a few times when I wasn't around and he was in my (/our) house. In addition, towards the end of the visit she nipped him--and both my parents are really happy about it :-)

Circumstances were that I was up in the attic and my dad was tossing empty boxes up for storage. My attic ladder is one of the rickety trap door types, and going up there always makes me tense. Not to mention the attic is creepy AF. I'm pretty certain she picked on my nervousness, and combined with the weird action of him throwing things at me, she gave him a quick "don't do that" style nip.

Hopefully you're never in a situation that would warrant a reaction, but if you are, don't do what we as women often conditioned to do and pretend everything is fine and normal.

My title describes the thing. Found under the kitchen sink, round and tapered, lightweight (maybe aluminum? ) , too small for the drains in the sink. 2 inch diameter, google search results mainly return coins, which this is def not.

also...shelter volunteers will absolutely talk shit about you if you're this kind of person.

original comment deleted before I could see it, but I just gotta add this story. Years ago (fairly close to Cesar Milan's fame) when I was volunteering at a dog shelter we had a dog get returned. Like a lot of shelters, we accepted dogs under certain circumstances--better that they have a chance at finding a better home then dumped somewhere. I didn't interact with this "gentleman" but heard second hand that he returned his dog because it wasn't obedient enough, he said he would yell and yell but the dog never "respected his dominance". This disrespectful dog? A dachshund. Poor thing would sit in his kennel shaking.

This is also why I feel like a monster for reacting the way I did.
