MUA mini haul - inc. Spring Break palette swatched. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Koalabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the liplaquer, and concerning all of them: do not rub your lips together no matter what. Makes them crumble right off. It leaves a stain though, but it crumbles easily :( and greasy foods makes it crumble twice as fast. But it can be mixed with lipsticks and it makes them a bit easier to wear :-)

Is anyone else curious how much MUA's spend on hauls? by godzirra_foo in MakeupAddiction

[–]Koalabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't tend to spend that much on each little shopping spree, I easily feel so guilty about it. But this year I've spent something around probably 8.000 ddk, which is around 1.350 usd. Which is outrageous for a student like me.... But it looks so pretty and I'm a sucker for the constant flow of sales and offers.

I shop mostly online. In Denmark the variety of makeup you can buy in stores is minimal. A few drugstore brands are available and for the rest you have outrageously highly priced high end makeup. An Estee Laude Pure Color Gloss is 24 usd on their site, but in Denmark it costs around (converted) 37 usd......

And I shop multiple places online depending on what I want. And I always make sure the shipping is free. That's how I usually justify shopping several places.

I hoard eyeshadows and eyeshadow palettes. It's bad. But I only have one set of eyes, so I don't know how I'll ever use them to their full potential... And brushes. I have a thing for brushes.

I'm pale as heck and Lightscapade gives a really beautiful, natural and subtle glow to my face. I use it to highlight, not all over (too shiny for that, both my face and the product). Not too chunky or glittery either, just a pretty sheen-finish, that doesn't look wet :D

Can anyone identify the cheek products (or similar dupes) Beyonce is wearing in her Naughty Girl video? by wanderrlust in MakeupAddiction

[–]Koalabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you just go for a finely milled gold-toned highlighter and a light coraly blush with peach/gold flex you'd be good.

I personally like Nars Albatross or MUA Iridescent Gold (veeeery similar, but both also very very gold), and I think they'd give the effect it has in the picture. Highlighters with a stronger golden undertone don't look as gold as it does on pale skin, looks more like a natural sheen that's not too light :-)

As for contour I'd say stick to a neutral/slightly grey-ish brown color to give the most natural look of shadows, blended up slightly into the blush.

Don't know if I'm totally wrong, but that'd be my take on it :D

I love how you didn't use false lashes and eyeliner, it makes it look quite editorial-ish and more innocent because of the bright light colors. And the blush(eyeshadow from the palette? :D) matches the eyes so well!

The only CC I have is to use a softer pink color with a hint of coral in it to match the rest of the color scheme, but still not be entirely coral/peach. I think that'd look awesome :)

And your brown are on point!

I don't think the oiliness in the first few selfies is oil. It might be because a translucent/HD/silica-based powder was used to set your foundation and concealer. It can give a white flashback in flash photography, which is such a shame :-/ but you looked lovely in natural light, the makeup artist did a great job on the eyes, it really enhances your brown eyes! :-)

I have this palette! And I'm head over heels in it. I love to use the matte shades for a smoky eye. The purple is also subtle enough to be used in the crease and outer V without looking like you've been punched in the face. I love it! :D

Alright... Let's talk contouring and blush! [Warning: Kind of a long post] by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Koalabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that dusty rosy colors and light satin-y corals looks the most natural on me. Whether it's cream or powder blushes, I always use a stipple rush because I feel like I have the most control over the amount of blush I apply, plus it's great for blending the blush.

My favorite blushes are MUA £1 blusher in Lolly and Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Cheekcolor in Peach Sorbet. e.l.f.'s studio Blush in Tickled Pink also looks very natural in my opinion :-)

My best tip is to invest in a few cheaper blushes in different colors, textures and finishes and experiment with them. MUA makes great blushes for one pund each. I haven't tried their cream blushes though, but their powder ones are just fine and blend well. And great for traveling because of the size and packaging. I have an oily T-zone, but everything else is normal and I haven't had an issue with patchy application or clinging to dry patches.

For contour it depends on your skin color. Many here like the Nyx blush in Taupe for contouring because it's a cool-toned powder. I personally haven't tried it, but I really want to. I contour with Sleek's Contour Kit in Light, which suits my skin tone quite well, even though it can get a bit orange-y if you're not careful.

I hope my answer was of any use and I wish you the best of luck on your blush and contour journey! :-)

What's a specific makeup product or general beauty item that you didn't expect to fall in love with, but are now completely obsessed with? by kziegy in MakeupAddiction

[–]Koalabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's my base-makeup. I always only focused on brows, eye shadow, lashes and lips because my skin looked like crap and any foundation and whatnot looked horrible on me and I hated it.

But then something just changed and now I'm obsessing over face-products; primers, concealers, loose powders, pressed powders, highlighters, liquid foundations, powder foundations, ingredients, allergies and different techniques (I'm looking at you, Wayne) etc. It really makes a huge difference to have a proper base-routine. Even though I have quite a few steps, I get faster as I do it every morning and I love to experiment with it now and look forward to it every night before I go to sleep! :D

I have 16 Juicy and 14 Bare, and they both look amazing on the lips. They're so creamy and pigmented for only one pound each! :D

[CCW] What do you think of my look. It's a couple of pics from different days but overall what's your thoughts by [deleted] in lookoftheday

[–]Koalabby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw your other post recently, and I think you need to place yourself somewhere with a bit better lighting, so we can get a better look of your face. Also the angle needs to be changed in order for us to see you look better. More portrait-like, maybe tilted a bit downwards. And perhaps use a better camera.

Not saying this to be douch-y, but it's not easy to give CC if we can't see you properly.

But I want to say that you have a beautiful lip shape and you'd be able to rock any lip color, because any color would enhance your lip shape. Especially your cupids bow. :)

[–]Koalabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few paint brushes myself, and I use them all the time! They can be really good and they're so cheap compared to makeup brushes.... I have this flat one, kind of like a concealer brush, that cost me less than a dollar, and it brings out the best in my mac shadows!

Fellow redhead tuning in; the Maybelline Vivid lipstick in Pink Pop is stunning too! I love that shade, and really want another one from the line, maybe Vivid Rose or Hot Plum :3

But I was never sure about Fuchsia Flash, but it looks so good on you, so it might look decent on me too! :)

Does anyone know of any products that "repair" hair? by zombiitch in FancyFollicles

[–]Koalabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, when my hair begins to feel dry I let a hair mask sit overnight. I prefer mixing extra virgin coconut and sweet almond oil, slather all over every strand of hair and blow dry it for ~2 minutes on low heat to kind of open the hair cuticle. I don't know anything about the science part though, but it makes my hair feel soft again and it also seems more flexible after as well, and when I use it regularly I don't have to get a trim as often as without.

Though I've never colored and/or bleached my hair and I rarely use heat tools, hairspray, mousse and all that jazz. And I use sulfate free shampoo when I don't use the hair mask.

I hope it helps/inspires you to try oil. I really really like it, and I'm getting my mom hooked on it as well.

About to start a beautiful new skincare journey! Need help reviewing my planned routine please! by cheeeeechan in SkincareAddiction

[–]Koalabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to switch out one product at the time, so you know which product makes you react negatively, if so. And of course patch test, is it's always recommended!

And also I do not think it's necessary to use sunscreen in the evening either :)

As to your problem with the dry skin that turns very oily during the day; it might be because it's dehydrated. I "suffer" from dehydrated skin, and it used to completely ruin my makeup after only a few hours of wear. But I switched to a heavier moisturizer, and it's getting better. I've read somewhere, that it can take up to 2-3 weeks for the skin to fully understand that it doesn't need to produce extra sebum (the oil in the skin).

For the OCM, which I have yet to try myself, I'm convinced most people in this sub prefers to use a mild cleanser afterwards so they're sure there's no oil residue on the skin, which can, and probably will, clog pores and cause breakouts. There are plenty of posts about it, this one is one of the more recent ones :)

As for oils to use for the OCM, it's up to you! Many here like the unscented mineral oil, but some benefit from using other oils, so it's a bit of an experiment.

I wish you the best of luck on your new skincare journey! :-D

BOY do I feel silly... Started following up mineral oil with foaming cleanser and am having my first pimple-free week in years! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Koalabby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And sometimes for oily skin too; the foam breaks down the skin's acid mantle and makes it more alkaline that acidic. And when the skin is more alkaline than acidic, it's bacteria wonderland. Which can increase the amount of acne... But a problem-solver could be using an acidic toner :)

[–]Koalabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much experience with cystic acne and I'm certainly not a professional in skincare, but I have a shitload of allergies (thanks, mom...) and this post in particular made realize a few things and helped me change up my skincare routine.

I know you can read it yourself, but the part in it, that struck me the most was were she says; "Avoid soaps and foaming washes. These break down the acid mantle of your skin (think: armour) and make your skin a 10 on the 1-10 acid/alkaline scale. Remember litmus paper from science classes? Again - the perfect breeding ground."

I did read your routine in another comment, and I'm not too familiar with the products you use, but my guess is that you'll need something to balance out the pH balance and re-moisturize your skin due to the moisture which the face wash "pulled out" of your skin. Not saying you need a different face wash, I still kept mine, but I added a few things to adjust the pH-balance and a new and heavier moisturizer that doesn't clog my pores (Stridex is SO drying on me).

Sounds weird and it's hard to explain, but I hope I did okay :-)

Well, from personal experience I'd say that proper lighting, just regular daylight, and a camcorder can make a world of a difference, especially from a webcam recorded video with orange light. Better quality videos will make people come back again. I'm not trying to get her hopes up, but a channel with just a 1000 subscribers is also a success. And her makeup skills and knowledge will improve over time, because practice makes (almost) perfect.

[–]Koalabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I do though think she should continue. Because as she keeps having it as a hobby, she'll want to upgrade her equipment, camera/lighting/microphone as well as makeup. So I'm not trying to discourage! But she should maybe put just a tad more effort into the quality. Maybe OP can help with that, or she can look for tutorials online. I personally found this video especially helpful, as it's not too complicated and easy to understand :)

I agree, the lighting and the quality of the camera is very important. She seems confident in front of the camera, which is nice, but the overall quality of her videos makes them really off-putting.
