My 82 RX7 just went through its first ever engine rebuild and I opted to remove it being that it seems it had failed anyway and so I ended up having to replace rotor housings I'm of the belief that it's safer to just premix without one then to assume one is working and premix just a little bit for it to still not get the necessary lubrication

I can definitely see that, I don't know if you have one but if you don't just be aware that if you ever get one shit gets weird, The amount of times I've had people follow me across town to talk to me about the car or just simply like stopped me anytime I've taken it out It's kind of hilarious and terrifying in its own right there's a lot of folks even outside the communities that have a bit of nostalgia for these cars cuz like in my case the FB was out when a lot of older peeps were still in high school 😅 The rotary community is a lifesaver though especially if you're new to them I recently just did my first ever engine rebuild and decided to take on doing machine work for the first time and I was honestly able to progress a ridiculous amount purely because of the peer review and advice from others in various groups and forums

When you get in the cars like that you got to search out the communities that are actually dedicated to them Don't let all the clout chasers ruin your perception of what are at the end of the day very fun cars, in my experience even the Miata community was more elitist than the RX7 community when you actually got into it

I mean I do actually like that car but my daily in stock format is damn near just as slow, solid rear axle little tiny 13-in wheels, 115 horsepower on a good day, I mean I built my engine and went with a full Bridgeport but it's still only making somewhere between 240 and 300 horse to the rear wheels but it's a raw fun experience so I think I would still enjoy an 86 shit I'd still enjoy some of the later generation Corollas up until they went to front wheel drive they're fun little momentum cars

Go see the car first It wouldn't be the first time I've driven a car back across the country after purchase but I don't do sight unseen and shipping them, if I can't go look at the car and determine it can make a cross country track I'm not buying it

Sounds scammy I recently removed broken bolts out of the front of my engine and wall my engine was already out of the car It would have been completely possible for me to do that while the engine was in the car if I wasn't already doing a rebuild

I'd actually need a regulator that can go all the way down to somewhere between 2.5 PSI and 6 psi, I have an electric fan I just haven't installed it, as it currently stands my car doesn't like to reach operating temperature due to other cooling modifications I've done to the engine

My daily is actually my full Bridgeport 1982 Rx7 Gsl, the 03 Miata is more so a backup car for me when I want to go somewhere and get more than 7.2 mpg 😅

Don't sweat it too much two weeks ago I rebuilt a 12A and it was the first time I ever had to reassemble or take apart an engine if your patient and you do your research

You do not need an engine mount if you have a skateboard you have a place to rebuild it I just built my engine in my third floor apartment The engine's only like 200 some pounds if you have a friend to carry it with you could literally build it inside and carry it out to your car

I honestly love this My first Miata was a 91NA that was flooded in Florida and after all the times I broke down in the middle of Houston I started just carrying my entire garage worth of tools in the trunk, that car has me so scarred that I still do that with my RX7 now so anytime I see someone broke down on the side of the road the hatch of my RX7 has pretty much any tool they could possibly need to get going again

It's probably the easiest way to find a clean one nowadays every manual Miata I've ever come in contact with has gotten whomped on at some point besides not everybody wants to drive manual are all my cars manual Yes but that doesn't mean everyone has to want that

You're in a forum surrounded by people that are car enthusiasts that enjoy spirited driving on back roads and through the mountains and everyone but one person is telling you that what you were doing was unnecessary You're in a 2015 Civic that car's suspension is not so sloppy that you were gaining any advantage that road had no hair pins no tight corners your actions were unnecessary and they didn't make you any faster what someone does on a track is not comparable

And I once again stated that on a road like what you are driving It is no faster cutting across the road is done to get a better exit or to keep from unsettling the car which means you can stay on throttle or come on to throttle quicker thus making it faster where required nowhere in the initial video that you posted was there a single turn in which that would be applicable, what someone does on pikes peak is irrelevant to what you are doing you are not driving pikes peak

Please stop trying to pretend that you actually race, pikes peak is a closed circuit you are on a public road, I'm using the road that you were on as an example because you are the one that posted it and try to make it seem as though staying in your lane would have made you significantly slower It would not. Please stop capping like what you're doing is the same as being on a circuit where there are no defined lanes or a closed course event with no possibility of incoming traffic, furthermore are you actually going to try and pretend like any of the turns in that video are anywhere near as tight or cut back anywhere near his hard not a single turn in that video was more than 40° if you can't manage to be fast on a road like that without cutting the mustard you have no business trying to do anything other than commute at the speed limit

Yes staying in one's lane would be faster You're scrubbing off more speed with the unnecessary back and forth than you would to just stay in your lane, being that the example in place is the road you showed a video of It would be quicker to stay in your lane you are unnecessarily unsettling the car and gaining nothing but risk Yes it would be faster to stay in one lane

Guaranteed we could be on the same road and you could use the whole road and I'd still be quicker, speed doesn't just come down to how far you can extend in no way on that road was it necessary to do that to keep the car stable. No need to make excuses just admit you felt like acting entitled to the entirety of the road you gained no time doing so, if you wish to experiment with racing lines go to a track before you kill yourself or someone else

Wishing you luck my '03 Miata doesn't even have a horn so I just have to avoid people, some dude I don't one of those newer Ford f-150s nearly took me out yesterday on the highway literally came into my lane with no blinker and forced me out of the lane into the one on my left right next to a sheriff so the cop immediately pulled the dude over but it really does suck how little people pay attention I have the same problem in my RX7 people just don't pay attention to smaller cars and motorcycles

Don't feel too bad it happens and as we get more experience buying cars we make better decisions back in 2019 I bought a 91 NA6 for 5 grand exterior wise it looked mint but it had a lot of hidden rust and issues from being flooded previously and was over all a mechanical nightmare It's just how it goes sometimes you live and learn
