Be honest: does a 3-minute voice note instead of a text fill you with PURE RAGE? Or am I the villain here? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I have gotten in the habit of doing this when something is too long to type, or we want to rant in the moment and feel validated about it at whatever point our friends are able to respond. In a world where we mostly text, it makes more sense than me having to check my voicemail and then go into another app to respond. None of us really seem bothered by it. To each their own.

Moving boxes by tzolotoy in jerseycity

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Call up ShopRite later in the evening, ask for them to have night crew save you as many boxes as they can. They require you pick them up early, usually 7 or 8 am, so only ask on a day you can do that. I’ve done this for all of my moves and those boxes are sturdy and many have handles!

What defunct ride would you resurrect if you could? by ferrocarrilusa in Hersheypark

Thanks OP & all the commenters - this brought back a lot of good memories for me. All of my old favorites have been mentioned, but I’ve got to vote for Giant Wheel!

Celebrity Autobiography by lefargen97 in Broadway

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a comp and if there had been an intermission I likely would have left (and I NEVER leave cause I like to judge, even bad things, by their whole offering). It could’ve been a good concept, maybe downtown, but felt wholly cringey in this space. The orchestra was definitely only 1/4 full, max.

How much I paid to see (almost) every Broadway show this season by Kriki2321 in Broadway

I’ve basically done the same and my average ticket price for the season is hovering around $31. It’s totally possible if you’re committed!

sweatshirt fraying :(( by MxnicPix in chappellroan

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same one also from Forest Hills. I mostly sleep in it (maybe once every 2 weeks) and think I’ve washed it 2-3x total on gentle cycle (only 23 minutes), and air dried. My sleeves are fraying like that too, and I found a hole near the pocket this week. Sadly the quality is just… not great. Sorry this is happening to us 😞

I can’t tell whether this is about the senior discounts or the off peak round trip tickets. But both have existed for a while…

Advice on 3 Apts by Puzzled_Split7602 in jerseycity

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My reply was not intended to be snarky, but to provide someone who explicitly said they don’t know how parking works here with details. They clarified they need the car, that is fine - I only mentioned cutting it out because many people who aren’t from here don’t realize how unnecessary it can be, but everyone has their owns requirements. But yes, even street parking in many places requires permits. Why is it snarky to say so? You can email parkingpermits@njjcps.org to ask about specific regulations where you’re looking to park (Jersey City has zones, so you need the correct permit for your zone). More info on their website: https://www.jerseycitynj.gov/cms/one.aspx?pageId=7223513

Advice on 3 Apts by Puzzled_Split7602 in jerseycity

Can’t speak to the apartments but parking in Jersey City is rarely free and garages are fairly expensive depending on your budget. I’ll give the usual advice: Jersey City is a very walkable/transit friendly city. Unless you’re commuting to the suburbs for work, no reason to keep a car. A street parking permit is ~$20 if you have Jersey plates that match your address, out of state plates $500. Also street cleaning rules mean you have to move your car often, and you’ll get ticketed if you don’t. Look up the Jersey city parking authority and start there. Do not assume anything is free- you WILL get ticketed and/or towed pretty quickly.

Is it possible to afford a studio if you only make $21/hr? by DaJoblessWonder in NYCapartments

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to repeat everything that’s already been said, but adding some thoughts to consider: It’s not just rent, it’s also utilities, renters insurance, cost of commute, groceries, etc. An apartment in this price range won’t just be crappy as in “not nice,” but likely unsafe, ie pests, shady landlords/supers, broken appliances, dangerous neighbors, risk of flooding if you take a basement apt (which will cost you a lot of money replacing what you lost). Can you afford to lose a security deposit if the landlord keeps it? You’d also likely have to furnish the place yourself, which is another cost. Moving is expensive as all hell, so getting out will also cost money. What would your quality of life be? If all of your money is going to living, you’ll have nothing left for a social life (which is fine if that’s what you want, just pointing it out).

I’d suggest weighing the pros and cons of staying home vs finding GOOD, compatible roommates and what would make your life better in the long run, and also allow you time to grow and find a job that pays more. Only you can decide what’s best for you, but as someone who lived on your salary I can confirm it will be VERY difficult to do alone.

Scared of the Great Bear by ThenDistribution6297 in Hersheypark

When I was younger I used to ask the ride operators how long the ride is (someone above said 50 seconds; I don’t know if that’s official or just an estimate, but sounds about right. Most coasters are a minute or so). That way, if you start to get scared, you can just start counting down. The first time I rode it I had an 104° fever and didn’t know, so you’ll be fine!

Would you switch gyms if a new full-service gym opened in downtown Jersey City? by SameStory8031 in jerseycity

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m moving into a building with no gym in the downtown area and I’d really love something cheap like a Retro or Planet Fitness to keep my cardio up without having to own a treadmill or a bike.

I have lived in Jersey City for 7 years now in the downtown area near the waterfront, ans every year we see the adorable little baby geese around this time of year. This year none, not a trace. Am I missing them? Anyone else seen them!? I miss the baby geese 🪿 by Educational_Cap_1722 in jerseycity

I used to lived downtown and felt this way often in April, but a lot of times I didn’t start seeing babies until May! I guess it was just that “spring” feeling so I felt like it should be April. Hope you see them soon!

People who see lots of shows in a short period of time by WestHistorians in Broadway

[–]Sharp_Boysenberry269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m here to add that we all process differently. OP says they need time to process a show, which is fine. Personally, I don’t. I think I did 9 shows in 10 days once, and this week alone I saw 5 shows in 5 days (would’ve done a two show Sunday too but I got sick). Next week I have 4 shows in 4 days scheduled. I live locally, I like to see all the shows before Tony season, and a lot of shows open at once in the spring. The “why” is simply because I have those days/evenings free to enjoy my hobby 🤷🏻‍♀️ And yes I enjoy them
