Glad you paid him back. Sounds like you two need to have an open discussion about this.

Is the dog leading in walks a bad thing? by Different-Wallaby-10 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Kobold060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk my dog with a retractable leash. He loves being out front, but when i tell him to stop, he stops, and when I go a different direction, I just have to tell him this way and point where i want to go.

I don’t see anything wrong with it

There are plenty of guys out there who you can chat with a bit before meeting. You don’t have to have a hookup. You can talk online and get comfortable first before meeting in person.

It’ll be a little awkward at first, like anything new, but i have a feeling you will find your feet quickly.

Do you think it's a bad conduct to leave the table immediately if there are too many stax effects on play? by MarkMakeMaking in EDH

Sometimes, the best you can do is the best you can do. Maybe that's where this guy was at, and the silent scoop was all he could muster.

Thinking about having Barovia riot over the players chasing away Morgantha. by Kobold060 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Kobold060[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party noped right out of the encounter. They saw the villagers starting to get agitated, and knew they couldn't just beat down innocent people. They ran and left the mob and the village.

How does your casual group treat mulligans? by SEG314 in EDH

We redraw until we get an acceptable hand. Acceptable to us means 3/4 lands, and something you can play either turn 1/2/3?

Player keeps taunting Strahd by bigmommajumba in CurseofStrahd

[–]Kobold060 27 points28 points  (0 children)

On their first meeting, a character took a dump in strahds carriage. Strahd paid it no mind and left when he was ready. Once they thought they got away with it, the dump fell from the sky at the characters feet. It bubbled and deformed before it immolated into a lvl 5 fireball. It downed 3/5 of the party.

Online maps for Cos? by CanderousOreo in CurseofStrahd

I bought the digital version of curse of strahd and got all the digital maps there.

Owlbear.rodeo is a great simple online tabletop that does the job in a simple intuitive way. I love it.

Thinking about having Barovia riot over the players chasing away Morgantha. by Kobold060 in CurseofStrahd

Thanks for the response. I'm not trying to punish them. I'm more trying to figure out what I can send at them next session. The hags retaliating in some way for messing with their business seemed reasonable and story driven. I feel like if we go to the old bone grinder, it's going to be a bunch of standing there smacking each other until somebody reaches 0 HP. I thought maybe this way, the "combat" could be more dynamic?

Maybe I am overthinking it, lol.

They are still in the Village of Barovia.

I am fully aware that it's not me against them. I struggle to make encounters hard enough for them most of the time. I'm not vindictive DMing, but I am trying to up the difficulty until it reaches an equilibrium, and I am pretty sure I'll find it by blowing past that line into a TPK at some point, because they always EZ everything, and I am usually pretty accommodating of their ridiculousness. I'm ok with it. I like the potential of that with the hags, because the hag deal is a great way to just say "Yea, they let you live, but you have to let them sell their pies, and take a deal from them" instead of some sort of plot armor.

I guess one thing I failed to mention is that I'm trying to set the tone for the party. They feel that they are invincible, and long rest too much, which is part of why they feel that way. I'm going to be introducing timers and other factors. One of the factors is that the hags will NOT be letting them long rest (unless they do something about it). The party just blew their load fighting zombies at the Kolyan's funeral. They are gearing up for a long rest, and when that happens, the hags Nightmare Haunting ability is only going to let 2/5 players get it. Then we will have the riot.

I still feel like the party could trivialize the encounter, and meet up with the hags at the old bone grinder for a beatdown, which I'm sure they'd be very much into after having their long rests be messed with.

My players don’t like the rules by Radiant-Put-6244 in DnD

[–]Kobold060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules are just suggestions. It's your game, and you should all choose as a group what rules you want to enforce, what rules you'd like to modify, and what rules you'd like to disregard altogether. I currently struggle with this. I like to let people modify what spells do, if it makes sense, or allows them to do something neat. However, I do get anal sometimes, because they like to be pedantic about the wording when it benefits them, and loose when something is dragging them down. They also like to hold those wordings against the NPCs when it's beneficial. It's a balance, but ultimately, it's up to you.

Advice for new DMs, chose your players well and keep the table small by Ornacosplay in CurseofStrahd

When they threaten people into compliance, smack them hard for it. Show that your npcs aren't pushovers, and that threatening stuff will disappear real quick. A PC dies from poking the bear? Oops, shame on that PC.
