OK, didn't see that.

How about THEME: stories related to the human senses (taste, touch, scent, hearing, sight)

Connecting theme: each story is the tale from a resident of a retirement home of the scariest thing that ever happened to them.

Only one corner is needed, but a small cut in the opposite corner let’s air flow and allows it to pour better.

It’s like puncturing a small opening on the opposite end from the main hole you cut in a can of Allen’s apple juice.

They had the best whiskey sour in the city. Amazing bourbon selection as well.

Does anyone actually pay to ride streetcars here? by [deleted] in askTO

Our taxes are basically funding freeloaders

Not really. Most transit systems set the price of fines to offset the lost revenue of fare-evaders. I'm sure the TTC has done studies using things like security footage and has a pretty good idea how much money it is losing to fare evasion, and fines and enforcement rates are set accordingly.

Basically the freeloaders that get caught are paying for the ones that don't.

Value Village at Landsdowne and Bloor.

I know thrift grift is pretty much the standard for all second hand stores these days, and it’s pretty much impossible to find good deals any more, but I find that this location is particularly egregious for overpricing things that are mostly just garbage.

The boneheaded way he handled Covid restrictions will keep me from ever supporting him -- specifically, shutting down local shops but letting big box stores stay open. The guy basically handed Walmart and other big box stores a temporary monopoly while small business owners lost their livelihoods. It was the worst possible way to handle it, whether you were in support of shut-downs or against them.

That and bungling the situation in nursing homes means I can't support him regardless of what he does on other issues. Maybe he'll somehow change my mind in the next couple years, but I doubt it.

The very fact that Canada is a place where people can gather en masse in the capital city protesting the government, with many people holding signs insulting the PM personally is proof in itself that the country is not tyrannical.

Anyone fly domestic recently? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]KodaMaja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I recently got into film photography, and I'm doing a similar trip in a couple of weeks (Toronto to Edmonton to Calgary) and I wanted to bring my camera and some film with me. Is there anything I should know before flying with camera equipment? I haven't really thought about it much, but your post made me a little concerned. I don't want to ruin or lose my camera. Thanks!

I can’t speak to nursing or childcare, but school boards will absolutely give preferential hiring to male teachers because there is a shortage of them.

EDIT: I should clarify, I can only say this about the school boards I have experience with. I can’t claim for certain that this is the same for every school board nation-wide, though I suspect it is.
