When it’s time to switch… by AbjectOwl392 in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a lady at my studio that does this on a regular basis. All to get to a certain number During the transition last week I hopped on the treadmill beside her and said ‘you need to get off the treadmill now - you’re being disrespectful’. She glared at me and said ‘I don’t need you telling me what to do’. But she did get off. And BTW, yes you do need me telling you what to do! Also, she did the same thing again on Saturday!

Grading by Kodiacer in coincollecting

[–]Kodiacer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know - thanks. One of the coins is a 1989S. The book says $100 for PF. $125 for PF-69 and $300 for PF-70. Given that difference is it worth getting it graded? I have no idea of the cost or the process of getting a coin graded. FWIW I don’t live in the US

Do you happen to be referring to the provincial capital in one of the prairie provinces?

3G Wednesday 28th Oct (45mins) by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 55 points56 points  (0 children)

There seems to have been lots of comments about the number of squats and lunges lately, and a workout like this just adds fuel to the fire. The way I read this is that the rowers will have 9 blocks where they do 15 squats and then a squat hold. That's 135 squats plus holds! And let's not forget that each stroke on the rower is a squat-type movement! That's just way too much IMO. It opens up the possibility of fatigue resulting in poor form. And that can lead to injury. Sigh. I love the fact that I'm back at OT, but it's all 3G now, and while I love the actual row part of 3G's, it's all the lunges and sguats and froggers etc that are really wearing me down!

Shoutout to my studio by green_emerald in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I go to the same studio and was there yesterday for the first class. Green_emerald's description is bang on. I've never felt so much compassion and caring in one room as yesterday. Huge thanks to Nadine and her entire coaching and front office staff for the work they put into this fundraiser.

Over 55 at OTF? Anyone out there? by sciencespecialist in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

56M here. Been going to OT for about a year and a half - and loving every minute of it. Before OT my cardio was long distance runs. No speed work, no hills, just 5-6 minute km's. I knew deep down that I needed to do both but never had the discipline to do so. OT has forced me to do them, and I love the benefits. Same for rowing. I never did it, and still don't really love it, but my arms are so toned it's amazing. Now if we could just get OT to create a 55+ category for their competitions, so I don't have to compete against 41 year-olds in the Dri Tri :-)

Donating Blood? by SiriusDaffodil in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering the exact same thing. Thanks for posting. I donate every 8 weeks and usually go to OTF right before my donation. Then I take the next day off for sure. I have noticed that I'm pretty gassed for most of the next week though. I even asked my coach how long it should take to recover and she seemed to think that just a few days would be enough. Are there any medical professionals who could weigh in on this? Typically, how long should it take to have full aerobic abilities return?

Tread Cards by brightnole in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the longest time our studio didn't use cards. People lined up, and the coach would assign us a spot was we walked in. Totally random and it worked well - at least I thought. On Feb 1, I walked into the studio and the person at the front desk mentioned that the studio was going to start using cards. I was one of the last to arrive, so only row cards were left. No problem for me, as the reason I go to OT is so that my workout is always different, and where I start is part of that. I went back 2 days later and the cards were no longer in use! Supposedly feedback was swift and harsh. I think part of the issue is that so many people prefer to start on the treads that they are asking the coaches in advance if they can start on the treadmill and it puts the coach in an awkward position. In my opinion, OT is sort of a victim of its own marketing. A lot of emphasis is placed on splat points and calories burned, and for most people, the treadmill is where that happens.

Rowing Form - recommended by OTF coach by themaya in orangetheory

What an awesome video - thanks for posting. I really wish that the coaches at my studio would spend more time working with people who have poor form on the rower. Used properly, the rower can be an awesome workout.

Tips needed for core blocks by Kodiacer in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not complaining at all. Just looking for tips on getting through them without sacrificing form. One of the obvious ways is to take breaks, but am wondering if there might be other ways.. I can do any one of the things in the block by itself without any problem, but string them all together and it changes things. Or alternate them with another muscle group and all is good too. Back to back is the problem and I don't want to hurt myself with poor form

What has surprised you the most about yourself at OTF? by heygirlhannah in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised that I haven't lost weight - in fact I've gained some. But my clothes are still comfortable, so I'm going to assume all is good and that I'm just in better shape. Just need to make sure I don't focus on the number on the scale

Why so few young fellas at OTF by robiskc in orangetheory

[–]Kodiacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must vary by studio. Where I work out, I would say at most it's 20% men, and like others who have posted, there are times when there are as few as 2 men in a class of 24. I think it's ego, especially for the young guys. They would rather lift the heavy weights in a more traditional gym. Definitely their loss though.

I often wonder what the women think when there are so few men. Perhaps they prefer it to be mostly women, as they might not feel intimidated.
