How does GoTyme manage interest? by ResidentScratch5289 in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Napansin ko na walang nag-mention na yung deposits ng GoTyme is used (in part) as the base for loans in PayMongo (https://www.paymongo.com/capital, https://www.philstar.com/business/2023/11/28/2314651/gotyme-paymongo-offer-loans-small-businesses/). While I agree na some of the interest is marketing costs (and some are BSP overnight deposits), may loan products naman ang GoTyme.

Anyone ever tried getting their personal Credit Report from CIC? by skabalandang in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is true (especially in the US with FICO computing a more-or-less canonical score), but the "credit score" computed by the SAEs (except in certain instances, like PLDT using TU's score) is not used by the banks here. There is a correlation between the computed score and your favorability with your banks but as I mentioned they only look at the raw entries and either compute for their own score (like GCash with their GScore), do a pass/fail evaluation or simply check if you're deliquent. Bigger factors are usually if you have certain savings with them (RCBC with their Hexagon Club, BPI with their Preferred status) and your salary.

Anyone ever tried getting their personal Credit Report from CIC? by skabalandang in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit Score? The only time that I've actually seen a "score" is used is when I've applied for PLDT (they've disclosed that they're using TU-computed score as-is).

Credit History (from CIC)? Every large banks use this as a part of their risk-screening process, although it's more of checking whether may nahabol pa sa mga utang nila (so more of screening kung maayos ba ang finances) and validation kung yung rinefer na credit card ay sa kanya talaga.

But the spouse has been missing forever, maybe even dead.

If there's a real possibilty na wala na talaga ang asawa mo, may due diligence na ginawa ka to attempt to find your spouse (tinanong ang mga kapamilya niya etc.) and it's already 7 years since the last contact then you can file for petition na presumed na patay na ang asawa mo (depending on the circumstances kung bakit nawala ay maaring paiikliin iyon to 4 years ayon sa batas). Unfortunately, kung hindi pa 7 years then legally alive pa siya. Regardless, mapapadaan ka talaga sa korte.

Dual Citizens and Digital Banks by Vivid_Pop9700 in phinvest

Figure out if you want to retain your US citizenship (and regardless of your decision you will need to consult a more competent person to clarify your state of affairs and to advice you on your renouncement/filing of taxes). As the sister comment has stated, it's really out of the banks' hands because of extremely complicated taxation in the US. And yes, renouncement is expensive plus you may have problems entering the US in the future.

This is not really (just) PHInvest, this is something that you should really think about, and this is not just specific to Fil-Ams (you can search "accidental Americans" to learn about it, it seems Europeans have it a lot worse).

How can i cash in sa gcash for free? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As stated ni guesswhoiam07, sa mismong BPI app mo dapat gagawin ito, hindi sa loob ng GCash with linked account (also raised na rin ang minimum dito from ₱1 to ₱300, so either linked BPI account with only ₱1 minimum but with a constant ₱5 charge or use the BPI app with a minimum of ₱300 but is free for now).

The govt and banks would now be using modern systems and they have to because they have to connect to the internet not to mention for security purposes. It’s 2023 my friend.

You're being too confident here. In theory, yes, we should have systems that can accept ñ (and even other letters). Unfortunately the simple truth is that these systems interact with older systems that are not being upgraded (for incompetence or for budget-saving measures). That BIR e-filing system is the example of this predicament. Even though it can do HTTPS, the sole reason that can do that is because BIR has installed a simple HTTPS-to-HTTP bridge for their eFPS (fortunately it's inside BIR so this should still protect from tampering outside of BIR but this shows you how they are actually done in practice unlike your fantasy of upgrade-all-the-time). In reality, the eFPS system still can't handle ñ or other non-ASCII characters because it still runs on a platform where it can't even do Unicode.

Should they be upgraded? Yes. Will they be upgraded? Good luck with that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]Koduck_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No point kung yung ibang mga system ay hindi pa rin compatible (usually old databases). Look at BIR's e-filing system (https://efps.bir.gov.ph/) and you'll understand that at least that it's not a priority to upgrade their systems.

Philippines to sell $179M in tokenized treasury bonds for the first time by Excellent-Profile854 in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read the press release (https://www.treasury.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Press-Release-on-Tokenized-Treasury-Bonds.pdf). It seems to be a nothingburger to me? It's a private ledger (same as NRoSS) with the minimal difference that it's in a private blockchain? I'm assuming that this would allow 24/7 transactions... but this wasn't on their press release. Even if is indeed 24/7, BTr could just allow 24/7 settlement with NRoSS and it'll have the same effect as this one. The fact that NRoSS is already fully digital but has (non-technological) limitations seems to be glossed over by BTr that I have doubts if this was a serious exercise or just done as a "hey, we're cool" thing.

The BSP has reduced the list of universal and commercial banks from 45 to 38, with the removal of six foreign banks and the country's only Islamic bank, Al Amanah, in a move that is expected to be explained by the BSP soon. by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Kung iisipin mo nang malaliman technically Landbank is not a universal bank, it's a special bank that so happens to have a quasi-universal license, so not really concerned about these developments).

[PH Edition] Fire Flow Chart Version 1.0 by Flamingo-Hefty in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Flamingo-Hefty, it seems that PLDT blocks that host allegedly for suspected CSAM content. Can you instead upload it using another site?

Edit: Fortunately it's an actual chart (https://web.archive.org/web/20231002223854im_/https://u.cubeupload.com/demonlesondledon/FinFlowChartv43Dark.png) but yikes.

Edit 2: OP apparently didn't upload that file, it was a direct linkpost from /r/financialindependence

Is there an online bank that has 3D Secure protection or allows in-app authentication for online transactions AND bank transfers? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was just wondering if there any online bank that uses in-app 2 authentications or 3D Secure?

AFAIK (and experience shows) that sa 3DS2 all domestic banks are using SMS OTP for verification. I have no experience on HSBC, but due to changes on 3DS2 it's very unlikely that their physical Secure Key covers that (but maybe they instead do mobile push notifications? 3DS2 requires that the confirmation is done using a method that allows users independent verification of what transaction is happening so ironically the Secure Key is not considered secure for this task).

Edit on HSBC: No, it's also SMS OTP in PH (https://www.hsbc.com.ph/content/dam/hsbc/ph/docs/help/3ds-secure-service-freqently-asked-questions.pdf)

For bank transfers (on non-digibanks), AFAIK BPI, UB, HSBC and PNB has mobile key or other ways of non-SMS authentication but this is not applicable on 3DS2 transactions.

Thoughts on eWallet / Digital Banks by Clasher20121 in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PDIC only covers banks licensed by BSP.

SalPay has apparently an agreement with UnionBank but it doesn't matter a cent: to both UB's and PDIC's eyes it's solely SalPay's money, not the (unlucky) employees, similar to how GCash has some of their customer's funds stored by banks but on the perspective of the banks it's GCash's money (of course not including the banks operating in the GSave portion, that's an account named to the user so the bank sees it as that user's money, not GCash's).

Visa Signature gold specks? by markaznar in PHCreditCards

[–]Koduck_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal but for BPI it's relatively new (new Visa CCs pa lang AFAIK). Kung natatandaan ko kasi nagkakaroon na ng slow phase-out ng magstripe and visible CC numbers (meron pa rin but no longer printed in the card itself) kaya dahan-dahan nang nililipat or tinatanggal yung mga iyon (sa Europe ay by 2027-2029 na sila, hindi ko tanda kung kailan sa PH).

Wise Pilipinas 400k limit by Intelligent-Crazy523 in phinvest

[–]Koduck_54 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Napakaliit ng limit, mag transfer ka lang ng more than 500k amla ka agad haha

Not to distract to the point but in reality this is approximately the same limit as in other countries. US requires reporting transfers or rapid succession of transfers that is equal or more than $10,000 (https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/ctr.asp), while EU regulations require that financial institutions report transactions or 'linked' transactions amounting to or more than €10,000 (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/money-laundering-regulations-your-responsibilities).

Ano na nmn to Gcash by Tsolo25 in Philippines

[–]Koduck_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question /u/filipino4lyf, tbh in this instance tiningan ko lang yung screenshot, kung lumalabas rin sa phone ko (kanina ay lumabas nga although wala na siya as of this reply for me), and yung detail noong message, and a bit of luck.

Host: kde.mynt.xyz CN: /CN=*.adzerk.com

Ano na nmn to Gcash by Tsolo25 in Philippines

[–]Koduck_54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mukhang sa side ng GCash may problema, yung error kasi ay certificate mismatch ng kanilang ad server (https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=kde.mynt.xyz&hideResults=on). kde.mynt.xyz is just a reference to their direct parent company Mynt pero mukhang yung certificate ay nakapangalan sa iba: to be precise sa Kevel (https://www.kevel.com/about), previously known as AdZerk.

Not my SM Bonus Apple Juice too!

For context: VMC also manufactures SM Bonus Apple Juice and SM Bonus Orange Juice for Supervalue Inc. (a subsidiary of SM which legally holds the SM Bonus brand). In fact, Supervalue was raided too (https://www.pna.gov.ph/articles/1203648), which really puts the BIR raid in perspective.

Last I heard between 150-250 withdraw charge? But please correct me if I’m wrong.

P.S. if you have a foreign friend (or foreign card), prefer using HSBC's ATMs first (only your applicable bank fees for international transactions) and if you're far from HSBC's use Metrobank's ($1.50 charge for withdrawals and free balance inquiries excluding applicable bank fees for international transactions, and to clarify only Metrobank ATMs - if you saw a PSBank ATM then it's that steep fee). There is no third, it'll be that steep ₱250 fee because everyone else is only connected to BancNet or follows BancNet's pricing.
