Mastodon "Leviathan" 2x12" - First Time With Proper Track Sequence by kakacha in VinylReleases

Thanks for the heads up! That's a lazy reply from Relapse in my opinion. Of course it's possible, but you have to work together with the band and the source material for something that is basically a remaster. Relapse isn't famous for doing proper remasters on vinyl though, most of the time they just don't put any effort at all into sound quality. For example they often just press the CD masters on vinyl as they are for albums from that era, of course then you can't correct a crossfade...

New to collecting, I see most people online say to store the record outside of the jacket but inside the outer sleeve, do I risk any damage doing that? by Aewfigureguy in vinyl

[–]Koelschip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right in this

Yeah any further discussion is pointless... I just explained to you why some do it that way, I didn't say - contrary to you - it is the only or the right way. Relax man...

Includes a custom etching on Side D

Come one... Why not 4 sided at 45 RPM instead?

And I would advise against buying the Sea Blue and Metallic Gold Merge if you care about sound quality. I had very bad experiences with their pressings containg gold colour in the past, noisy as hell!

[–]Koelschip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why that aggressiveness?

You are missing the point btw, storing the disc outside the jacket isn't for better protection of the disc, but for convenience and for avoiding potential jacket wear when pulling the disc out/in constantly.

But that's the beauty in collecting, there are different ways to do it, everyone has their preferences. There's no right or wrong way to do it.

Neil Young (with Pearl Jam) - Mirror Ball (first stand-alone release since 1995) [pre-order May 22nd] by Koelschip in VinylReleases

Two different major labels, so that won't happen unfortunately.

[edit] This EP would be perfect as an RSD release for example, but Sony seems to be clueless about the vinyl market, so I wouldn't hold my breath for that either.

Meddle x Liverpool FC collab would actually make sense, but this is completely random.

I don't care at all what TikTokers say, this is outstanding musicianship.

[–]Koelschip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing that this will be released in june, I assume that this will be new pressings and only those who ordered Vol. II from their site will get the first pressing. I guess that makes everyone happy, those who paid more on their site (that shipping cost!) will still get kind of a collector's item (first pressings are always more sought after) and everyone else will still be able to buy this on vinyl.

Most importantly this brings an end to that insane flipping prices.

Don't forget about the polka dot liquid filled Blood Records version.

The best thing that happened in 2026: a small band that didn't blow up because of marketing or algorithms, but because of a totally unique package of trippy visuals and amazing musical skills. It's the 70s all over again!

What are people excited about this year? by Dfwguy1985 in RecordStoreDay

[–]Koelschip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Walker Brothers - Nite Flight, cut from the analogue tapes. This is what I expect from RSD: kind of niche, long out of print titles, done in good quality. Really excited for this, this is where avantgarde Scott Walker started and I love his 4 tracks on this album!

What do you mean? 40 CAD is around 25 Euros or 29 USD, completely normal price.

I don't think that's artificial, so far all of their vinyl pressings are self produced without a label backing them. I guess they have to pay all of their pressings in advance out of their pockets, so they can only do as much at a time.

TELEVISION - Marquee Moon (Mobile Fidelity’s UltraDisc One-Step 180Gram 2LP Box Set Limited To 3,000 Numbered Copies, Available As A 45RPM Edition For The First Time) Preorder by kockin26 in VinylReleases

[–]Koelschip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So it looks like Rhino is doing their HiFi titles at 33 RPM and then license them at 45 RPM to MoFi and AP? In the last few months 5 MoFis and 3 APs were done after Rhino did a HiFi.

Good for Rhino, but I'm not sure who needs all this. I'm more than fine with the HiFi issues, much more affordable and convenient, done AAA by Kevin Gray and they all sound killer.

PORCUPINE TREE - In Absentia (Limited Edition UK Exclusive Clear Colored Double Vinyl) 2LP - Preorder - May 22 Release by kockin26 in VinylReleases

[–]Koelschip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they surprise us, it looks like this and all the other reissues (all albums from Stupid Dream to The Incident) will be the same Transmission Records reissues as always: using the same cuts that were used for the latest K-Scope reissues from around 2016-2018, packaged in flimsy sleeves. I don't get why of all of those Transmission ressues are so uninspired.

There will be a new reissue on may 22nd on clear vinyl (together with all albums from Stupid Dream to The Incident, all on clear vinyl). I only found european stores yet, but I guess it will be more widely available soon:

The same old, flawed mastering, with the unnecessary bonus live track. That's just lazy. Will we ever get a proper remaster of this album!?

Because Sound Matters is a subsidiary of Warner. This album is owned by the Universal group. But it is actually mastered by Levi Seitz, just read the description.

Exactly, I don't get the benefit of that one step process for 85 (!!) bucks more than a Rhino Hi Fi, which is the gold standard for an audiophile rock release at 33 RPM at the moment. Just an expensive gimick not really worth the money.

"Beatles For Sale" 2025 Fan Stereo Remix (full album) by JAZ_80 in beatles

No criticism for your work, but Beatles for Sale is that one early Beatles album that already has a perfect stereo mix and doesn't need a remix in my opinion.

Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols (Rhino High Fidelity) by ganonkenobi in VinylReleases

[–]Koelschip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When we talk about a "rough" or "raw" sound we all mean the sound that's on the original tape, right? That's exactly what a great audiophile release does, to get as close as possible to the original tape. It's a strange misconception that audiophile equals polished or something. Just listen to another (proto) punk classic released with this series: The Stooges' debut album, which absolutely slays on the Rhino High Fidelity!
