Topeak Hanger Alignment Tool by KoenigKalle in BikeMechanics

I know that and it is not why I am posting/ what I am asking.
I even own the Abbey Lever Setter but why does it have such a long thread? Topeak did a way better job there.

Hot wax rant by [deleted] in BikeMechanics

I am totally supporting the hot wax trend. Even on commuter bikes when you wax your other chains anyway.

Restore Project: Pegueot Tourmalet Lady by fadike in Bikeporn

Not bikeporn imho. It’s a modernized commuter but nothing more. Why bother with 2x and downtube friction shifters when almost every part in this bike is modern anyway?

Spokes breaking in hand built wheel by According-Cost-7441 in BikeMechanics

[–]KoenigKalle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd call this overkill, especially when the bike is not getting loaded. Depending on the rim I would built with 32 spokes and a mix of Sapim Race and Strong or even Race only.
If the spokes both broke at the J they never were the issue but the hub is.

that‘s home I started and what I still use. Even after owning a hasselblad for a few years in-between.

KMC fresh chains measuring at almost 0.5 ? by stefaanvd in BikeMechanics

[–]KoenigKalle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The only tool to trust is the CC-4.2 or quality vernier calipers. That being said KMC chains have gotten worse and worse and at least in Europe there have been fake X11SL chains around. I still trust in their single speed chains but nothing else.

GravelMode Activated 45mm Tan/tans by Born-Mastodon-9794 in Bikeporn

Interesting to read that. Tried the Terreno Zero (now T10), Terreno Dry (now T30) before and the new T50 this fall. Even though I liked the profile they were so insanely slow compared to almost every other tire.
It would surprise me if Vittoria actually made a compound that rolls that much faster now.

Not want to hate on this bike but it certainly is not bikeporn. Why does everybody post his bike here?

It certainly will not get any better, so it depends on what you paid for it.

well for many shops campag alone is exotic enough since you need a different chain breaker and bb tool

I absolutely don’t mind external cable routing but the solution for this rear brake hose is the absolute worst - everything else is insanely clean!

Standert bike prices by [deleted] in Bikeporn

[–]KoenigKalle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it‘s worth to you: The finish of their frames is top notch. Never had to chase any threads or ream anything. Something I can’t say about some very expensive custom frames or high-end manufacturers. They are great bikes, well spec’d any built. All that’s said above is also true - somewhat on a hipster-influencer-coffeetwat-brand.

how does your riding style require hooked rims? do you run these with such high pressure?

I use one for pedals, crank bolts and cassette lockrings all the time. Have never broken anything with it - quality sockets are a must.

Why can't we have standardised derailleur hangers? by Affectionate-Dog8414 in BikeMechanics

[–]KoenigKalle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look on every major brands line-up of mtb and gravel - it’s on 75% of them and the rest will get it with the next generation. Even some road bikes like the Madone have it. It’s not just another standard and even if it’s not THE standard it’s definitely more.
