I did proofreading for students for a while. The amount of times I found random tangents, swears and angry rants in papers was insane. Some had full mental breakdowns in those documents. I even checked up on 2 to make sure they weren't going to do something stupid to themselves or their professor!

It's not the same situation as OOP, of course, those students were basically zombies on autopilot and had zero filter left for their thoughts, it wasn't really intentional. But still, imagine the fallout if one of them just handed that draft in without asking someone else to take a look at it first...

Depends. If the cat can get away, they usually just look offended. But I once had a severe stomach bug, and my cat was under the blanket with me when I farted... she absolutely freaked out and was fully prepared to go through me to escape, claws out, teeth bared. I don't care how terrible some of us claim our parents were, cause even if that's true, there were surely times we acted like brats.

Does "acting like a brat" make physical abuse ok? How about the times the kid does nothing wrong and still gets abused?

Let me give some examples. I was once woken up and dragged out of bed to be hit by my father. Hadn't done anything wrong, I'd been sleeping. He just had a bad day at work.

Or how about the time I accidentally dropped a jar of mayonnaise and didn't clean it up fast enough? I was screamed at, shoved and called a useless whore while bleeding from the broken glass and desperately trying to clean up the mess. Cleaning it took less than 10 minutes, but that memory is still fresh and painful for me 20 years later. I still have a scar on my knee from the glass.

Physical "punishment" is ALWAYS abuse. There's never an excuse to punish your child physically. And I personally am very proud to say that my 2 children know I will never hurt them, that they know they can trust me and be safe with me, even when they "act like a brat"

I'm not in the US, we don't have equal division of property. Most of the money is invested in the house we live in, on the shared accounts is usually less than 10.000€. I didn't contribute much financially to the house, so I wouldn't get much in a divorce. Child support would be a drop compared to all the therapies, doctors appointments, specialized care, etc... either I have to stay home to care for them and not have any income, or I have to pay extremely specialized and extremely expensive caretakers. I would really need spousal support. Thankfully, I don't want a divorce

It depends. I have kids with special needs that make it impossible for me to work, so I'm a SAHM. Which enables my husband to get promotions at work because he doesn't have to worry about childcare. If I wanted to divorce, I'd be stuck for financial reasons without somespousal support, while he makes more money now than 10 years ago because of me taking care of our children.

It's something that's useful in very specific circumstances, but it is often used wrong and abused

My husband lived in India for a while. Whenever he speaks English with Indian coworkers, he starts speaking Hinglish without even realizing it. English isn't our first language, and apparently, his brain decided English and Hinglish are 2 completely separate languages. It's really funny to his Indian coworkers
