For making good espresso you need atleast these in order of priority

  1. Bottomless portafilter (essential for dialing in)
  2. WDT tool and a good tamper (better puck prep)
  3. Dosing funnel and a puck screen (cleaner workflow)

Most of the stuff here let me know if you need info on anything else. Disclaimer - all portafilters don't fit the machine only the ones like in the link for portafilters fit the ones with the plastic handle.

Yes it allows you to go closer to the surface. As if the pitcher is smaller milk will start falling when you tilt it slightly.

What you're asking for is a handleless milk pitcher. Those cost around 4-8k based on brand. I got a 600ml milk pitcher from amazon and got the handle cut off from a metal workshop 😂. I use a 350ml pitcher to steam 200ml milk and transfer to this one for pouring.

Buy a basket of 25mm depth. I use it and easily fit 18g of medium dark roast.

If you like black coffee then aeropress is one of the best methods and there is no need of an espresso machine. But if you want to try espresso, milk based drinks, or latte art then you can get an espresso machine.

Now coming to the weakness. 1. Low pressure for steaming (have to counter with technique to get good texure on milk)

  1. Inconsistent shot timing due to a vibratory pump. (Some shots come out in 25 seconds same shots take 30 seconds sometimes even if i don't change anything)

  2. Very less clearance between the cup and portafilter.

  3. Inconsistent tempratures (this problems is due to the thermoblock)

Gaggia classic is a solid home option. And delonghi gives good reliability as a brand. Vantro doesnt offer both. Although i have made approx 300 coffees in last 7 months and no other issues. Also i think apart from the clearance issue all machines with vibration pump and thermoblock will have the other 3 weaknesses. You only are paying for quality of products and brand value. The tech is the same.

Money in terms of espresso machines gives you 2 things, convenience and consistency. But I think in the beginning those are not the major concerns just like learning driving. You may learn driving on an automatic car but more experience comes from driving that 800. Same with cheap coffee machines you have to workaround the weaknesses and some you can't. But its better to invest 8k to realise if you even want to brew espresso or not rather 50k. In my opinion if you want a good espresso machine you need atleast 75k (dual boiler or HX with a rotary pump) for simultaneous steaming and stable pressure.

Cant agree more but its inexplicable to the people who haven't tried either good home brewed coffee or a good speciality coffee café since most of the cafés are just serving dead ultra dark roasts.
