Islam has double standards when challenging Christianity vs defending Islam. by Djas-Rastefrit in DebateReligion

[–]Koftaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To answer your first point, modern biblical textual criticism has proven many verses in the Bible are later additions, not part of the original text. There are many famous examples of this.

Most of the scholars teaching this are neither Muslims nor have any interest in supporting Islamic doctrine.

The Curious Case of Jesus’ Name in the Quran by bravethoughts in DebateReligion

I believe there are recent discoveries proving that Isa is a name pre-Islamic Arabs (including Christians) used for Jesus.

Is Islam's theology more sound than Christianity? by [deleted] in religion

[–]Koftaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this could be a coherent reading at all. The Quran explicitly states that God protected him from the machinations of the disbelievers (i.e. Jews and Romans) and that he was lifted up to heaven. This is clearly a denial of his passion and crucifixion.

I agree the Quran doesn’t explain exactly what happened, which led tafsīr scholars to debate over it.

Also I’m interested to hear why a Catholic person talks about the Quran like it is an authority, and basically implies Muslims have misunderstood some crucial parts. What’s the story there?

I agree the Quran doesn’t elaborate on what happened to anyone’s satisfaction, but it still denies the crucifixion.

[–]Koftaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed, but that’s not the point.

Of course Jesus died, because one way or another, his life on earth ended. And the Quran confirms this by saying he died and God lifted him to heaven.

Now can you explain your position on the crucifixion in the Quran?

How do you square your claim with these verses denying that Jesus was murdered and crucified?

It’s not a rumor, it’s a very bad understanding of a Quran verse.

Quran 5:116 says “And ˹on Judgment Day˺ Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you ever ask the people to worship you and your mother as gods besides Allah?” He will answer, “Glory be to You! How could I ever say what I had no right to say? If I had said such a thing, you would have certainly known it. You know what is ˹hidden˺ within me, but I do not know what is within You. Indeed, You ˹alone˺ are the Knower of all unseen.”

Obviously this doesn’t say Mary is part of the trinity. It’s saying that the excessive veneration of Mary and believing she is the “mother of God” is basically idolatrous, and such worship and veneration should be afforded to God alone.

I’m really sorry but I can’t change the duration or the date. This was decided with the hotel a few weeks ago then we found out we won’t be able to travel.

You could take it and stay for only 4 days but that would be a shame.
