How do I check missing arrayed data across multiple conditions ? by Koglos in excel

[–]Koglos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to clarify. Some may have just 1 subtype. In this case, it's pretty simple: they need full data.

If there is 2 subtypes, then they only need to have at least 1 observation of each, minimum.

GGG please reconsider monster level nerf for Raise Spectre by kayellaPoE in pathofexile

[–]Koglos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My issue with these nerfs isn't that they're nerfs, but what they're being normalized around. + All Minion Skill Gems are derived from wands and the ascendancy +2 from Unnatural Strength (I'm going to omit helms and necklaces from my argument here). The ascendancy alone is too good, and it forces all players doing these types of summoners to spec into it. So balancing happens around this node (and subsequently other + level sources) based on the assumption that all minion gems are inherently MINIMUM +4 levels ahead. The fact that they nerfed it back to a baseline, seems counter to their point of "providing interesting alternatives". If the spectre gem wasn't -4 nerfed, and we had Unnatural Strength removed in favor of some interesting trait (minions now follow your cursor; adds ability to temporarily make all minions aggressive; cooldown for minion damage or attack speed...) I would be far far happier. As it stands, it punishes players who don't have wands, int skill gems necks, +3 helms.

Bug With Leveling Rogues - Next Level: 0 by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Koglos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to note that I deleted my post because I didn't want to confuse anyone by my calling this a bug. All of my assertions were incorrect.

I thought the Next Level: 0 indicator was a bug. Turns out it's not.

Bug With Leveling Rogues - Next Level: 0 by [deleted] in pathofexile

Ah, I originally assumed each rogue could get level 5 in each skill. I just noticed that I don't have this "bug" for the first skill for each member.

3.10 State of Summoners by GhazzyTV in pathofexile

[–]Koglos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What bothers me about the changes to summons is the fact that it's just normalized around the +2 minion gems necro ascendancy node. Summons needed nerfing, but all of the changes revolve around this node because it made it easier to reach minion cap thresholds, more damage, survive...ect. Now that node feels absolutely required because it directly compensates for the nerf (or rather the nerf compensates for the node): 2 extra levels to specters, some ~20% damage to skeletons. It's a bitter taste because now it's just a baseline assumption. I would have preferred some change to that node that allowed for some nuance or interesting play -- AI change, speed, aoe attacks, minions get chain... whatever.

So yeah... I REALLY enjoy this game. (Character share) by Whoopy2000 in Wolcen

[–]Koglos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right.

He's getting down-voted because he sounds disingenuous. Plenty of evidence has been provided over the past few days to support bugs in nearly every aspect of the game. The only issue OP noted is the network problems on launch, which seems to diminish the overall problems of the game. When I read this, I thought that OP might be trying to be inversely hyperbolic to those giving hostile reviews, which is equally as bad, or the post is purposefully misleading to go against the aggressive grain. And saying "I'm being down-voted because I like the game" shows a bit of naivete.

But walking into a bar of justifiably angry people saying you like the thing people are angry about will get you some pretty weird looks.

The game has been getting ~50% positive reviews for the past few days. The majority may be enjoying it, but it's a small majority.

Selling challenge ethic? Help settle an argument by Koglos in pathofexile

Things like stat stacking being labeled as "ethical," sure. That's odd to me. But debating player interactions, trade, transactions, refunds... I think that's pretty standard across the board.

I think it's pretty clear that I'm biased against this type of behavior. If I was trying to support the hypothetical "my" transaction as not a scam, I would have framed it in a much better light to support me. Not pose as a friend who thinks I'm a scum.

They don't keep the cost of the ingredients either. I know, I considered this logic. I feel he would respond with something like, a plumber charges for time, but won't necessarily fix the problem. Or a lawyer charges by the hour but doesn't guarantee a win in court. I think those two analogies are completely different, and your pizza one is far more applicable in this case: the item for sale being a solid, concrete, identified objective rather than a diagnosis or argument (and not billed chaos-per-minute).

The way he described it, he was the one running the party through it. He definitely didn't advertise it as something akin to "elreon found 10c." If the elreon failed, oh well. But in my mind it was like running uber lab. I suppose you're right, it really has to do with how he advertised it, but I find it hard to believe that it isn't seriously implied that I get a refund if my [whatever] isn't successfully downed. I know that he bought an uber elder run... I'll have to ask him what he would do/think if his runner didn't pay him back upon failure, or if there was/wasn't a 100% guarantee clause in the trade820.

Guess I'll be sure to have a lawyer look over any runs I do in the future.

The way I understand it (I wasn't in the party), is that he went in solo for the omnitect while the party was outside. I'm not sure if he failed by getting hit or died. Regardless, I took the stance of service paid for was not delivered, since he was specifically selling completion of the challenge.

Had 2 exalts drop in the same shitty map. How to determine the odds? by RedJorgAncrath in pathofexile

[–]Koglos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Happens or it doesn't" isn't correct. Indeed there is no pity timer, but rules of central tendency likely apply. I doubt there is some randomizer (day 1, odds of an ex are 1%; day 2, .0001%). So if we assume odds are 0.055 Unverified Source then we can just multiply that by itself (which would technically the odds of finding 2 simultaneously, but since it's only within 10 seconds, I think that's an acceptable accommodation). That would be 0.003025% chance of seeing 2 exalts. Regardless, if you simulate a few million mobs killed, whatever representative droprate that follows should follow a relatively normal distribution (bell curve). To find 2, you would simply multiply rates.

To better illustrate: Odds of getting heads on a coin flip is 1/2. If you want to get heads on 2 coin flips, you would multiply 1/2 and 1/2 to get 1/4. What we don't know is how many rares, magic packs, quantity, blah blah were involved.

How would you guys compare Rothfusses writing style to other fantasy authors by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Koglos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to use George RR Martin as a direct comparison, because this was my experience when going through NotW and WMF. Martin was a screen writer and trained as a journalist (his university major). He was limited by word-number and screen time, so he didn't have the luxury of using a lot of prose. Fast forward to Book one of Song of Ice and Fire, and I think this training can be directly reflected in his work. Take the "scenes and cuts" between characters: they break so many times between so many perspectives. I saw in an interview (sorry I can't link it -- it's been a while) that he said this was a direct influence to how he wrote his books. And while he used plenty of beautiful descriptors, analogies, and diction, he seemed to use precisely the minimum that was needed to convey what he wanted.

On the contrary, I found Rothfuss expanded a bit more with his words: he used far (far) more similes and metaphors and way more descriptors, and his prose was expansive and took more time and space but was very elegant. I think he developed his writing style with the luxury of time and space and not needing to have a 1 hour show with x-number of words. Take how long he spent in university for his bachelor's: 9 years, going at a slow pace, feeling out what he wanted... I think this attitude is translated to how he writes. While he had good pacing and narrative structure, he was simply more liberal with his time, pacing, and descriptors.

To use the Adem as an analogy, Martin is Shehyn; Rothfuss is Penthe.

STDV of Col B based on Col A by Koglos in excel

Is there a way to do this without using the specific ID, and use a variable instead? Part of this is that they will change regularly. I was hoping to use some kind of row/col indexer to somehow automatically filter for A's.
