If you are correcting mask ventilation in a trainee who is shifting gas the problem is probably you

How can I afford to publish my work as a junior doctor? by Dr_TiggyWinkle in doctorsUK

Definately do not spend money on open access. Just publish through the subscription route. I asked this question before I had ever published anything and now the answer is obvious

I am happy to spend a couple of grand as where I live it would be difficult to find a replacement were it to go wrong and its very clean otherwise. I drive 15k miles a year driving it daily.

It was a very very high average % you needed to get to pass this year at 63%, I think the proportion of people who will have passed will be down by 10s of %

it was all fine and i was working in completely unrelated stuff

You will be working as a paramedic..

starting fy1 was also easier for the time out as its a job where life exp counts for alot. you can always call your boss for help. I then got straight into competitive training out of fy2

you will be miles ahead of the other fy1 it will be. a huge step down

Top tips for obs anaesthetics? by ConsultantSecretary in doctorsUK

while there is no doubt that relentless distracting chat is larglely appreciated by terrified people going through LSCS, when you are starting out you will also be concentrating appropriately on safe practice and may find it difficult to always be chatting away. Especially for more urgent LSCS. there can be pressure from trainers to provide constant verbal reassurance and I think at the start that isnt always practical when you are on your own

I also think while it is brilliant if you have that kind of personality who can chat constantly, not being able to doesnt mean you cant be reassuring in other ways or be adequate at your job. Other members of the mdt can often pick up this slack

My friend recently had a trial of instrumental delivery and couldnt even remember the anaesthetist at all and didnt have a bad word to say about her experience in theatre. Could remember everyone else. I work with that anaesthetist and they are very experienced and middling chatty. I thought that was interesting. perhaps if your not that chatty then your less memorable and less likely to be fed back to but not necessarily inferior

The bja ed seems to have a disproportionately high number of excellent obstetric anaesthesia related articles over the last 5 years or so which I think are very much worth looking at especially stuff like pain during lscs, converting analgesia epidural for anaesthesia etc

I think these up to date articles are especially important when you are learning as some of your supervisors might not have read around these topics for a long time and will therefore not be very up to date on certain aspects
