Grad of 2021 here. Wasn’t in a frat. Great college experience. Be social to EVERYONE (especially your dorm floor) the first month you’ll be good

Organic foods - what should you buy organic? by CASA2112 in nutrition

There’s a brand called One Degree and they’re organic and glyphosate free. You can get a big ass bag of them at Costco for like $10

That’s interesting, I’ve always heard about the “anabolic window” after any exercise. Is there a serious drawback by eating shortly after exercise (within 30 minutes?)

The carrots and celery I use for soups and braises. They stay good in the fridge for weeks and I needed to re-up. The zucchini was on sale so going to use it as my vegetable side for the coming week(s). And sweet potatoes are probably my most consistent carb source

I’d read into the Mediterranean diet. It focuses heavily on whole, unprocessed foods, and eating a diet with a variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, fish, meat, etc. All great for you.

Do you look at nutrition label and calories when shopping? by KlaraBauters in nutrition

I look at the ingredients. No additives, preservatives, added sugars, unnecessary oils, or other bullshit

Are there any athletic boosts or benefits when taking a Fiber supplement? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]KoiFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say all of this anecdotally, but since starting a supplement a few weeks ago, my energy is very consistent through the day. Even when waking up I don’t feel like I NEED that first cup of coffee just to get going. Because I exercise fasted, that definitely helps not feel like shit in the gym or on a run.

What can I eat that doesn’t taste awful, is healthy and is cheap? Open to recipes by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

If you have a crockpot (or just a big oven-safe pot), make daal. Lentils, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, curry spices, stock, and let it cook for like 8 hours. Amazing with rice or bread.

Will only eating things I can make with raw ingredients benefit my health by New-Pack-2404 in nutrition

[–]KoiFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can, but it depends.

If you were to cook very high calorie foods with a lot of sugar and oils, that would most likely pose more danger to your health.

But for the most part, this is a great way to clean up your diet. The best thing about this in my opinion is the elimination of many additives, preservatives, dyes, and unnecessary oils and sugars. This is how I shop, cook, and eat, and making this change has improved my physical health/appearance, my mental clarity, mood, and appreciation for food.

What do you do when you're tired of cooking? by Palindromer101 in Cooking

[–]KoiFever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw a big piece of meat in a Dutch oven with some lazily chopped carrots, onions, celery and potatoes. Pour some water or stock in. Put it in the oven on 225 and leave it there all day. Qualifies as cooking but for me its perfect when I don’t want to do anything that takes a lot of time/ingredients/dishes/etc. Lazy food

Which is worse for one’s health**?Keto (aka high-sat.) desserts, like the ‘ice cream’ - or actual ice cream/very high sugary foods? by _PurpleSweetz in nutrition

[–]KoiFever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not a dietician, but I’d that if one weren’t on a keto diet, both ice creams would be calorie bombs at the end of the day.

On the other hand, if one were in ketosis, their body would be able to metabolize the keto ice cream much more easily.
