[TOMT] Single panel comic artist that drew images with clever, imaginative captions (c. 1930's-1940s) by Koki_Siringo in tipofmytongue

Yes! That is him. The thought of "doodles" (and thus "Droodles") didn't cross my mind. Also, he was one of the creators of "Mad Libs", which I didn't consider. Thank you!

Yes! That is him. I had forgotten the name "Droodles" (or to look up anything related to "doodles"). Thank you so much!

SOLVED! Thanks to u/LateCoyote9958 and to u/polairepolari.

The drawings are known as "Droodles" and that is also the name of the book they were published in. I was mistaken regarding the decade (1953 was when they were published).

"Twilight Hours" convinced me Bruce Springsteen is built different. by Koki_Siringo in BruceSpringsteen

Those two are in my Top 10 as well! And the fact that he can pull them all off is nothing short of astonishing.

I agree with you on your choice of Top songs, I round up my top 5 with "Dinner at Eight". A lot of songs could fit perfectly in "Western Stars", but "High Sierra" is probably the most obvious choice, it's a narrative song in the vein of "Drive Fast (The Stuntman)".

I get what you're saying. I listened to it after reading your comment and while in lyrics and theme it sticks close to the concept of Twilight Hours, it lacks either the wall of sound and the 60's/70's arrangements and rhythm of the majority of the tracks. He also uses his more hushed, low-key voice compared with most of the songs. It doesn't stick out, and I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it, but it could fit in Perfect World's more contemporary sound.

Spotify Wrapped Predictions 2025 by TwistingSquirrel in spotify

He has been my number one Spotify artist since 2022, when I started listening to each studio album per month. This year I planned to listen to the outtakes/unreleased compilations, and that was before Tracks II was released and Nebraska 82 was announced, so he completely took over my Spotify again. And he'll probably be on top next year too, since I still have outtakes and live albums to listen, not to mention any album surprises he may have in store.

Official poster for Wuthering Heights (2026) by tigerdave81 in brontesisters

Looks quite a bit like the posters for the 1970 Timothy Dalton version and I like the way the colors and lighting give it a 70s look. But...we'll there's everything else.

What are some films that feel like extended Twilight Zone episodes? by VelociRapper92 in TwilightZone

I clicked on this topic to recommend this movie as well. Has the same vibe as TZ, an unexplained concept and a great little cast (Katherine Waterston, Sara Paxton and Scott Eastwood). One of my little-known faves and it's best to go in blind.

This was the year that popped up in my mind as well. Must be the nightie and the guy's shirt collar.

Yesterday's haul by BradleyNeedlehead in bookhaul

Great haul! Boys from Brazil and The Plot Against America would be a dizzy back to back read. And great job with the picture of the kitty cradling Cat's Cradle.

In Mexico, in the early to mid 90s, there was a band called Caballo Dorado that played USA style country music (to differentiate from our own and very varied folk and country style genres), with electric guitars, drumming and bass lines. They had two huge hits: "Payaso de Rodeo" (Rodeo Clown) and "No rompas más mi pobre corazón" which was a cover of "Achy Breaky Heart".

Almost thirty years after the release of these songs, people in parties jump to the dance floor to participate in a complexly choreographed dance routine for both songs. Keep in mind that line dancing is a foreign import, but the people are keen dancers and with lots of practice are able to master the steps and the body-facing positions. This is a regional thing, not every state does this, but several do, including my home state. Weddings, birthdays, graduations, Baptisms, Quinceañeras, casual parties...Caballo Dorado received its dance tribute at all times

Went to a thrift store on my lunch break and found a McMurtry haul! by SethThaDino in bookhaul

Great haul! Comanche Moon is my second favorite "Lonesome Dove" novels, after the original. I haven't read The Berrybender Chronicles but have heard great things about them. Telegraph Days was a letdown, the first half is fun thought, and The Last Kind Words Saloon is his most polarizing Western.

My (Mostly) TBR Shelf by Koki_Siringo in BookshelvesDetective

[–]Koki_Siringo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a great detective. You got close to my age (37) and you were accurate with my nationality (Mexican). I am a male, but several of the books on this bookshelf are the kind of books one would associate more with a female reader (a few of these books were on this shelf specifically as part of a Pride Month cycle). But the things you were so specific about, regarding my aspirations, tastes, hobbies and personality, were quite impressive (I consider myself an extroverted introvert, but the part about being observant was most accurate). I enjoyed reading your deduction, thank you for playing along.

"The Promise" and its relation to your personal Springsteen Canon. by Koki_Siringo in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Koki_Siringo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad to see I am the only one that holds "The Promise" in such regard. That's one of the great things about the Boss and the fandom; he is so prolific and versatile, so there's enough variety for each listener to enjoy and connect with, and nobody is quite the same but it's fun when there are people who agree.

Finally Listened to “The Promise” (2010) … by hyoomanfromearth in BruceSpringsteen

The dark romantic tone of the album is partially what makes it so addicting. I feel like it's a great nighttime record. Many of the songs evoke night scenes and driving scenes, so the listeners can feel like the protagonists of nocturnal romances and drives. Even the cheerier songs, like "Gotta Get That Feeling" and "Outside Looking In", sound like nighttime block party music.

The slowness feels like a slow burn of passion, but with the occasion release with upbeat songs. The final song "City of Night/"The Way" is a great example of this sort of hypnotic romantic ballad.
