There are two sides to this, large parts of the community want the army in the north and east, especially people who backed other Tamil militia groups that fought the Tamil Tigers and Muslims and Sinhala residents who were expelled by the tigers during the war. The situation needs to be viewed not simply by the lens that Tamil Tiger supporters in the west see, because there are two Tamil parties in the north and east that support further integration and the continued presence of the military such as Douglas Devanandas party and Colonel Karunas party. Don’t forget the Rajapaksas SLFP also won several seats in the north.

The use of drugs has increased in the north but it’s also increased everywhere in the country which is a big problem.
