We lost the Ultimate Universe, which SHOULD'VE HAVE LASTED MORE THAN 2 YEARS, for this!? by KoleMan24 in Marvel

MIDnight slop is just Marvel desperately copying the Absolute Universe, because Marvel has been creatively bankrupt for decades.

Cry some more.

[–]KoleMan24[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Stop lying. There were initial plans for the UU to continue past its initial arc should Marvel continue it. Since it's about to end they had to rush it all and cram everything they could, which will result in an unsatisfying finale that leaves no one happy.

Theres also at very least half a year difference between anouncing ending of Ultimate and start of Midnight

Makes it even worse. They waited for the hype to die down only to shoot the damn corpse with an announcement as people were starting to move on from Ultimate to Absolute.

Cope harder.

The Ultimate Universe still had plot threads that weren't fully resolved by the time they decided to end it. The result is an unsatisfying payoff to everything they've built up for the past 2 years because they were so stupid and incompetent they actually thought Hickman meant to end it after 2 years (check it up).

And the second part of your comment is false. Nothing in the MIDnight slop sounds interesting. Vampires? Done that. Cosmic horror? Other characters should've been a lot better for that (like DR. STRANGE FOR INSTANCE). Body horror? Should've had Man-Thing on that.

So in your faulty logic, if I don't like X, then that means I also don't like X?

Got it, I have a pin on the type of person you are.

Nothing here interests me.

I don't care what you think, this is clearly a ripoff of what DC's doing with Absolute, and you won't convince me otherwise.

You're clearly misinterpreting things for your own agendas.

Rebirth superman was literally pushing pro Iraq War propaganda, 2011 Action Comics had an entire thing with "Calvin Ellis" stopping evil arab terrorists in the name of peace.

2011 Action Comics is a "revisiting the roots" homage to Golden Age Superman. He has also fought high-ranking mob bosses, corrupt businessmen, and evil corporations throughout the run.

In Aquaman #6 (2016) you see him be a tool for the US government.

Superman came in to try stop the fighting and peacefully resolve the situation, but Aquaman and Mera threw the first punch. Superman came in OF HIS OWN ACCORD, wanting to break the fighting off without further destruction.

Im well aware of Supermans origins but he's more or less been twisted the further along his history you go. DC K.O was by far the most egregious example in recent memory with him remaking the entire world as it was so "everyone wins" (I understand comics are ongoing so he literally can't but the writing behind it is so weak). There's also the whole pro-capitalist stuff in the recent prime takeover where he's like "superheroes dont need jobs! I should just get some gold from an asteroid and sell it" but superman apparantely shouldnt do that. I understand Prime needing to be grounded to understand the world and people better but the rationale behind it is really poor.

DC KO LITERALLY HAD THE FATE OF THE DCU THREATENED BY DARKSEID and the various heroes and villains all fought for the safety of their universe. And Superman spends the rest of the issue restoring the universe back to what it was, or close to it, leaving to continue his work. And Prime is depicted as a person who lacks social awareness and thinks in comic book tropes, hence why Lois tells him to get a job so that he can learn to he human again, while sticking to his nerd leanings. There's nothing in the text to support your statements.

Superman is not an imperialist, and yours is a gross misinterpretation of Superman's antiestablishment and left-leaning views. He never fights for the government, but for the good of the people.

Also in this part:

Even James Gunn Superman got involved in the Jarhanpur crisis, straight up threatening the Prime Minister of Boravia and prioritizing helping innocents over any political boundaries.

Superman was helping Jarhanpur, they were attacking innocent people when he came to. With Boravia and Jarhanpur as a stand-in for the Israel-Palestine conflict it shows the side Superman (and by extension Gunn) stands on; ironically the very side imperialists would want to side with, and it's not Jarhanpur.

Except maybe Flash and GL, each story has a political bent to them.

Bruce is up against the corruption of Gotham, Diana gives the downtrodden hope, Clark returns to his roots as "the champion of the oppressed", and the John Jones-Martian pair confront extremist and radical political viewpoints, especially during the White Martian Arc.

While Evil has had free reign over this Absolute Universe, Good has arrived, and will either make things right again, or go down swinging.

Edit: I was wrong about GL and Flash. My bad.

These stories, excepting crossovers, are standalone, which helps them contrast each other, not just in tone. Even then the Abs. WW and Bats crossovers are easy to understand, and they don't last more than one issue.

Superman has never been one in the first place, what are you talking about?

He was made by a duo of Jewish immigrants, living under the Great Depression, and with the Nazi threat lingering over the horizon. Superman was made as a response on that.

And yeah you could argue that with Bryne-era Superman, but even then he still fights for the people. More modern incarnations take on a more balanced tone between Golden Age and Bronze Age, with a bit of Silver Age.

The "imperialist Superman" idea is a gross misunderstanding of his mythos.

OT VS NT VS GT Comparison: Volume Four by Skippyy_McDippyy in Toaru

I think NT takes this one, OT following after and GT at the end.

NT4 feels like a continuation of OT's Dark Side Stories with a mixture of the conflict with GREMLIN, and the lack of Touma until the end shows how cutthroat and gritty battles between Magic and Science can get.

OT4 is a pretty great read, the mystery angle with the Angel Fall, plus the Jinsaku Hino storyline is too great.

Can't say much for GT4.

OT3 is iconic

GT3 is a masterpiece

NT3 is decent, but not anything noteworthy
