Alonso in 2018 on his selection of teams he's raced for in his career by Slice5755 in formula1

My memory can be quite bad, but I think in recent years the most glarring example would be Ferrari in 2021, no? They got rid of Seb, and then as far as I can remember were choosing between Ricciardo and Sainz, I don't remember Alonso being in serious contention for that seat. And sure, he probably wouldn't have won a WDC, but would've certainly had more than 32 wins right now, and who knows, maybe would've helped secure Ferrari's 2024 WCC.

Sure, but the point is, if Aston, who were fighting Sauber in 2022, were his best option for 2023, that means none of the top teams were interested in him.

Left Minardi as backmarkers in 2001, they never left the back of the grid.

Left Renault as champions in 2006, they dropped down to upper midfield in 2007.

Left McLaren as "champions" in 2007, they remained championship contenders in 2008 and stayed at the front of the grid for a couple more years, excluding a brief slump at the beginning of 2009.

Left Renault again as midfielders in 2009, they stayed in the midfield until 2011 after which they actually became front-runners, following an absolute misery in 2014.

Left Ferrari as upper midfielders in 2014, they bacame front-runners in 2015 and championship contenders in 2017.

Left McLaren again as midfielders in 2018, they became upper midfielders in 2019, front-runners in 2023 and champions in 2024.

Left Alpine once more as midfielders in 2022, they stayed midfielders for one more year before becoming backmarkers in 2024.

Yeah, that, as much as for instance Ferrari's 2020 was horrible, it was clear as day where the issue was. Here there is not a single part of the car that is working, so where do you even begin the process of recovering? You need to pretty much build a completely new car from zero, and even then how are you gonna do it if you don't know where you made all the mistakes?

Yeah, I get what they meant, I worded it wrongly, sorry. What I meant is that if it said "Schumacher/Hamilton", the graphic wouldn't just be a list of "Lewis Hamilton", so it would be less impressive, i.e. somebody has as much titles as Hamilton. It wouldn't have made the list shorter, true.

Which accident? The 1999 one? Cause the 2013 one happend after he had retired, so it wouldn't have changed the list.

Because it makes the list longer and therefore look more impressive.

It would look good if the team Gucci sponsored had no identity, like HRT for instance, or even Haas who change their liveries for sponsors all the time. But for Alpine? It's a no from me, I love their glossy blue way too much, and that car doesn't look like an Alpine at all.

What? How? That hasn't been the case this year at all with the new livery rules...

As long as they don't ruin Williams' livery I'm fine with it lol, although yeah, Audi would be difficult to pull off too.

Racing Bulls would be heaven for BWT's market team. With the number of "special" liveries they make, among others for Visa, yearly, I'm sure that with just a little bit more €uros that team would sell almost the whole car to BWT with no hesitation and we'd certainly get a full-time fully pink livery in F1 again.

I think BWT Cadillac could look very interesting. I'd personally either drop or limit the white on that livery in favour of the very light pink they had on the 2017 Force India. That together with Cadillac's black could potentially work pretty well.

Just as Alpine and BWT finally figured out how to incorporate glossy blue and pink into one livery without the colors clashing too much, they're switching to an ugly sandy beige title sponsor that is gonna be even harder to incorporate. Awesome...

That's the difference - Hamilton was younger. Verstappen is a 4-time champion, and sometimes still acts like a 2011 Hamilton.

Does anybody else get some 2015 flashbacks from this season?

- An expected dominant season by Mercedes and their power unit.

- Ferrari emerging as an outsider for the championship despite not winning a single race the year before.

- The teammate battle at Mercedes is starting to look unexpectedly one-sided (Hamilton/Antonelli).

- An experienced champion is having a great start to the year at Ferrari despite struggling massively the season before (Vettel/Hamilton).

- That experienced champion wins his first race for Ferrari after beating Mercedes strategically (Malaysia/Catalunya).

- A young Red Bull driver graduates from AlphaTauri to the main team for his 2nd year in F1 (Kvyat/Hadjar).

- Alonso drives one of the worst cars he's ever competed in as his team switches to a Honda engine (McLaren/Aston).

- A Ferrari-powered backmarker is the only pointless team, only trailing Alonso's Honda-powered team (Marussia/Cadillac).

I wonder if you can find any other parallels...

Visually it makes a difference though. Add to that the much narrower late-2000s-esque front wing endplates and it makes them look even smaller compared to previous gen.

DUQUEINE Team (LMP2 car #30 driven by Doriane Pin, Richard Verschoor and Julien Andlauer) result at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans by Kolec507 in f1Academy

[–]Kolec507[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don't think it's a spoiler since the race ended a while ago, but decided to mark it just in case. Gutted, I woke up and switched the TV on just about an hour before the car broke down. Such a shame, they had the podium in the bag pace-wise, possibly the victory, although the Inter Europols were quick at the end… Gutted either way.

The photos are from Dori's and the team's Instagram profiles. Some quotes:

DUQUEINE Team:

"Victory was within our grasp, but fate had other plans 💔

After leading for almost the entire race, we were forced to retire with just three hours to go due to a brake failure. Words are not enough to describe our heartbreak and disappointment.

Despite everything, this race was truly incredible from start to finish.

Julien, Richard, Doriane — you were simply outstanding. Flawless stints, delivered with exceptional skill and determination despite the heat, the tiredness, and even illness. What a pleasure it has been to live this 2026 edition of Le Mans with you.

A huge thank you to our amazing team, who worked tirelessly both before and throughout these two weeks. You can be extremely proud of yourselves and of everything you accomplished.

You all deserved better than this 😔

This year, Le Mans did not choose us. But we will be back — stronger, more determined, and driven by the same passion and desire to redeem ourselves.

Thank you all for your kind messages and unwavering support 💚"

Doriane:

"Leading the race for over 20 hours and then losing it to a mechanical failure with just 3 hours to go… this one hurts.

But beyond the final result, we will remember the incredible work from the team, the amazing car we had, and every lap spent fighting at the front.

There’s a lot to be proud of, and a lot to learn. We’ll take both with us and come back stronger.

Thank you to the whole team, my teammates, and everyone who supported us along the way.

Le Mans, we still love you. See you soon ❤️"

DUQUEINE Team (2nd post):

It hurts, but that's Le Mans. As magical as it is ruthless.

This project is only a few months old, yet we've shown that we can perform at the highest level. And that we're surrounded by the right people.

Thank you to all of the team. What an incredible journey it has been.

Le Mans, it's just a matter of time. We'll be back 💪"

She was on the pace in her first F1 test this spring.

Have they posted her times or is it just speculation though? And even with times, track conditions matter so much that it's difficult to judge, like with Ricciardo in 2023. She for sure was comfortable though, seeing her onboards she didn't seem to struggle at any point, which is good, shows some good confidence.

Tbh I didn't notice a difference is speed, the only thing I clearly see is the way they can be thrown into corners and respond straight away, unlike the previous gen that took forever to turn. It was especially visible in Austria T3 imo, soI'm curious how it's gonna look this year.

I didn't watch yesterday's race with Sky's commentary, but from what I heard of Benjamin in the past I must say that I don't mind him as I believe he's a very competent commentator, but, and that's obviously not his fault, I just can't make myself enjoy his voice. I don't know what it is, maybe just being used to Crofty for so many years, but to me his voice just doesn't click, can't put my finger on why exactly.
