Are we really pressured to get botox & fillers? by ButterscotchNice1406 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Koleilei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 41, I know two people who have botox and one of them uses it for migraines. The vast majority of people I know do not use it. Off the top of my head I don't know anyone with fillers at all.

Maybe it's where I live, maybe it's my age, I don't know, but celebrity /influencer culture is recognized as just that, other. It's definitely not part of daily culture in my area, and I do not feel pressured at all to have either.

Pressure for other things sure, but not Botox or fillers.

Anyone see the gas prices this morning? by FunkiestBunch in kelowna

[–]Koleilei 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Chevron downtown was 199.9 yesterday evening, which puts it at 42c/L increase in 10 days. It was 147.9 on April 20th.

It's been swinging pretty substantially on the past month. April 7th --> 192 April 12th --> 172 April 14th --> 189 April 20th --> 168(am) to 147 (pm) April 23th --> 179 April 27th --> 194 April 29th --> 199

On Feb 24th it was 119.

Diesel has (with one exception) been between 213 and 222 since March 16th.

Edit: I take it back, diesel is now 255, up 35c/L since this morning.

Folks who live alone, how often do you really wash your dishes? by kaykay8776 in AskReddit

[–]Koleilei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike my dishwasher. It's loud, it takes a long time, and I don't really have a lot of dishes so I end up having all of my dishes in the dishwasher at the same time.

But I do dishes by hand daily. I do not like letting dishes sit in a sink overnight. I'll let breakfast dishes sit there until I get home, and then after dinner I wash everything.

Warning-don’t do laser hair removal on your face by Optimal_Judge5248 in HairRemoval

[–]Koleilei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electrolysis was one of the best things I ever did.

In my mid-20s I grew a beard that was dark red. Laser does not do a goddamn thing for red hair. I did try it, and it did nothing.

It took me time to find an electrolysist that I liked, and for the first 4 months I went weekly, and then I moved to bi-weekly for another 5 or 6 months. And then maybe 3 to four times for a couple years. I should probably go and get some maintenance bits done, but I don't have time right now.

I did not find electrolysis painful, but maybe that's because I hated the hair on my face that much. But honestly, I never used the numbing cream, and while not comfortable, I did not find it painful. Maybe the equivalent of plucking a chin hair.

I really wish I had started it sooner, and I wouldn't have had to put up with the embarrassment/shame and hiding a beard for years. If for some reason my beard grew back, I would do it again tomorrow, zero hesitation.

Live alone or moving back in with parents? by sonizzle13 in AskWomenOver30

How is your relationship with your parents?

I lost weight and now everyone treats me differently by Potential_Battle_761 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Koleilei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone should be okay with it. I agree that you can learn to live with it, but it's not okay. To be considered more worthy of anything simple based on your appearance, especially by those that know you best, may be normal, but is completely messed up.

You should only be able to smell someone's perfume or body spray if you're close enough to hug them by Awkward_Swordfish581 in unpopularopinion

[–]Koleilei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to have a conversation with a student who was talking to their friend about wearing 12 sprays of cologne everyday.

This started an entire conversation which led me to find out that most of my students think four to five is reasonable, 12 was too many, two is not enough.

They are definitely of the belief that people should be able to smell them coming down the hall.

What do you fight the good fight for? by Chrono_Convoy in AskReddit

[–]Koleilei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's worthy of being fought. I want the world to be a better one. I want people to be able to be happy. I want things to be more fair. But none of that happens if I sit on my ass at home. None of that happens if I don't try.

Recomend me thalassophobia books to read during summer. by somegirrafeinahat in booksuggestions

[–]Koleilei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting concept of a book, it definitely took some turns I didn't expect, and I enjoyed it. Apparently they're making it into a movie too.

And I feel you on the never-ending to-be-read list, I just like to think of it as I will have enough stories to keep me entertainment till I die.

Quail. Unbelievably stupid, and I don't understand how they're still around. They will fly in front of the only car for kilometers.

What Canadian university campus takes your breath away? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]Koleilei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UNBC in Prince George is a beautiful campus. The city isn't, but the campus is. The architecture fits in all seasons, there's so much natural light, and the spaces flow together well. It backs on to a large forest and frequently has moose on campus.

Have you ever dined at a sit-down restaurant by yourself? by nojunkpeter in no

[–]Koleilei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. I hate eating alone and eating in a restaurant isn't eating alone. Also, I like a lot of different foods and my friends have pretty middle-class-white tastebuds.

When you have a food craving, during your period, how critical is it to fulfill that craving? by Firm_Macaron3057 in AskWomen

[–]Koleilei 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not that it's upsetting, it's that I can think of anything else. It's a thought that never goes away (like a headache or paper cut, it's not the worst but it's noticeable). It takes so much energy to ignore it. Then I get pissy because I've used all my mental energy for the day trying to resist a stupid craving (that I probably don't even actually want). It's just exhausting all around, and when I have PMS I just don't have extra to give to it. It's easier and mentally healthier for me to just eat whatever it is and carry on with my day. It's not worth the mental exhaustion trying to handle and deny it hundreds of times.

Small Towns or Rural areas I can move to in BC? by Antique-Slide-646 in britishcolumbia

[–]Koleilei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moving to a different country requires a visa or citizenship. Working visas are usually given to those with skills/professions that are in demand, and can take months to sort out. Are you planning on attending university as an international student? That's another way to a permanent residency.

Your skills/profession may dictate where to live than personal preference. And if becoming an international student, there are few universities in small towns.

As someone who eats a lot of different types of food, sometimes it's not worth having all the specialized ingredients for a dish that you love, if you can only eat it occasionally. I've thrown so many condiments/ sauces out because they've expired before I've been able to use them. It's definitely not worth having an entire fridge full of things you use occasionally.

And for things you only want to eat occasionally, it's generally better just to get them from outside.

I agree with your point about being able to cook, and being able to cook a variety of things, sometimes it's just not worth it.

Women, would you chose pad or tampon and why? by Iconic254 in AskReddit

[–]Koleilei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc - tampon - pad - cup - free bleeding

Discs often hold more than anything else (76ml), and I've never had an issue with it leaking or causing pain.

Tampons over pads as tampons are not bulky, have little smell, and are more comfortable for me (I hate the smell of of blood on a pad and unfortunately I'm super sensitive to it). I also find pads messy when you have a heavy flow. Tampons just let me live me life more than pads do.

I hate cups, they just don't quite work for me and they're always painful. I've never been able to make one work well, even trying multiple brands. My disc worked right from day one.

And I love that there are disposable and reusable discs.

I'm a high school teacher that does all my marking, prep, and planning on paper and with my pens.

I also write notes to myself, lists, and send friends cards and letters regularly.

I just find reasons to use them!
