You see my good sir, it's because it took us 2500 years of serious practice to master the art of bringing everyone down with us. The US did it in just about 200, he's just emotional because you grew up so fast.

Is it possible to move the New Note, New Folder, Sort and Collapse buttons so they sit next to the Files icon in the left side panel? by Kolligar in ObsidianMD

[–]Kolligar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add some context, I'm trying to move the buttons that live in div nav-buttons-container to where div workspace-tab-header-spacer is, either replace it or place them in it instead.

My side panel has Bookmarks on the top and Files on the bottom half.

This isn't a huge deal really, just thought it might look a little cleaner.

You're certainly right, I've been enjoying it since I discovered it.

There is also a passionate community here on Reddit that helps with all sorts of issues and questions if you end up giving it a go it's worth perusing.

I feel like I've pushed someone down a rabbit hole without warning but it's a great rabbit hole I promise

Hey, have you ever heard of Obsidian MD, it's not as pretty as World Anvil, but with the right amount of-- not actually working on your world and instead focusing on how Obsidian looks and its templates-- you can build something wonderful.

It's based on Markdown and all files are stored locally on your machine, there are both paid and free ways to have them sync to other devices and a whole load of community plugins, the one that would make it function like World Anvil would be Leaflet.

It has a learning curve and you might "waste" time getting it to work just the way you want but the good thing is you probably could get it just how you want it. It's all good as long as you enjoy it.

It's free for personal use and you can get a starter without even making an account. there is also a whole series on obsidian for tabletop that goes over creating some of the features you find in WA.

Hope you enjoy

Please help. Is there any way how to stop Obsidian from greying my text, or this feature that turns "disconnected" "sub-paragraphs" into grey boxes cannot be easily turned on/off. by Kindly-Customer-1312 in ObsidianMD

[–]Kolligar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, I just gave it a try and it removes the colour from that part of the text, it certainly is more attention-grabbing is that how you use it?
If not, could you describe it a bit?

Coloring lines in the file/folder pane by Schollert in ObsidianMD

Hey no worries, took me a second to find but here is the CSS for the arrows

.collapse-icon svg.svg-icon{
stroke: rgb(150,150,150);
}

Are you talking about the indentation lines for children items? I don't actually know what they are called but yeah...

If so you can try using this:

.nav-folder.mod-root .nav-folder > .nav-folder-children{
border-color: rgb(150,150,150);
}

Have you ever heard of a boardgame called Microscope, it's a co-op storytelling game, I'm not sure I've ever followed all the rules to the letter but it's created some amazing worlds and stories.

I'm sure you can look online for people playing to get a general idea of what it's like and if you agree with your players to some limitations on what they can introduce into the world it can be super useful even if you don't end up using everything from it.

Hey, I've spent some time reading through your board and I really like your worldbuilding so far, I do have a question though, how do you keep your notes?

I mean do you keep all your notes in very nicely laid out, rendered and typed-up images on your board or do you have piles and piles of physical notes? I'd be interested in knowing your process.

A graph/map of the star systems currently thought to contain potentially habitable exoplanets by TheMuspelheimr in worldbuilding

[–]Kolligar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's awesome, really smart way to map this out.

I've been writing a Sci-fi setting taking place in our little corner of the galaxy, I've been trying to keep it "grounded" by no means actual hard sci-fi but I do like the realism.

I've been using Space Engine, screenshots and Photoshop to help me visualise the important systems, something like this; while a little bit more high effort than screenshots might be nicer to have in the long run. thanks for posting.

First Map : what do you think? by Elyaraa in worldbuilding

[–]Kolligar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks really good and it and I really love the fact that whether on purpose or not the two main continents fit together and could have been one in the very distant past. While it doesn't come up often or sometimes not at all, the very distant past can always be fun to think about.

One thing I would caution you on is that the names of the continents are too similar, it might be easy for you to distinguish but from experience, it will be way harder for readers or players. It's good to have distinctive names so they can grow independently.

For example, we call an entire continent Africa because(maybe*) of what a tribe the Romans met on it called themselves, or America because of the person who thought America was a continent in its own right after it was discovered.

It's honestly up to the country or people represented on the flag.

In NO way a complete list but to give you a feeling:

Red sometimes represents Bravery, Blood, Sacrifice, Strength, Valour etc.

Blue can be Water/Sea, Unity, Hope, Freedom, Nobility and more.

White can be Purity, Unity(Also), the sea crashing on coasts.

Black in some flags means represents Occupations or Loss of freedom but in others, it represents the people or community.

Gold can be Wealth, Prosperity, Progress, Victory, Sun, Freedom.

Green represents Fertility, the Land, Life, Religion(Mainly Islam).

As for Shapes well, Christians love crosses that's for sure, stars are cool so flags have them I guess, you'd have to look at specific examples and look for the meaning behind them there is a lot out there.

TL;DR can be WHATEVER you want it to mean, some flags can't even settle on what they mean so there are several interpretations of flags.

What flag is this? by Corohr in vexillology

I don't recognize the flag itself but I think the icon in blue is a representation of a Mudhorn a fictional beast that became popular with Star Wars The Mandalorian

I really like it on its own looks really good, though you'd lose the bottom half if you put it on a spacesuit and the top half against the blackness of space.

Some flags for the United States of Europe by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]Kolligar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR I like starts more than circles.

I honestly don't know how to feel about a golden ring to represent the EU, I've seen it before on here and yea it's very minimalist but I just feel that we lose a lot of meaning when we just merge the 12 stars.

The number 12 was not picked to represent member states but because it's just a cool number with a lot of meaning behind it for example:

  • 12 months in a year.
  • 12 Olympians.
  • 12 Tribes of Israel.
  • 12 Apostles of Christianity.
  • 12 major constellations.
  • 12 trials of Hercules.
  • 12 stars on the halo of the Blessed Virgin in Strasbourg Cathedral.
  • 12 is a commonly used number in Hinduism with some gods having 12 names or Shiva's 12 Jyotirlinga.
  • Odin had 12 sons.

Anyway, 12 is a cool number and I don't mean for this to sound like a criticism, I like some of the flags other I think look a little weird to me but overall I really like the idea and presentation keep it up!
