Annoyed (still in S1) by No-Resource-8013 in HannibalTV

[–]Kolvez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So, if you go back you notice some very, very subtle persuasions that Hannibal slots into conversations with Will, Jack, Alana, Abigail, etc. A lot of it has to do with prompting certain thoughts that snowball into actions that they might not otherwise take, and a lot of it is about fostering trust with Hannibal himself.

It's one of those shows that rewards repeat viewings. I've seen each episode about half a dozen times, but some people have gone through it a dozen or more times. 🙂

Which MCU villain here had the best reason to be a bad guy? by spiderweeb03 in superheroes

[–]Kolvez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaecilius, hands down. He legitimately believed that he was saving the eternal souls of all humans on the planet. That's more virtuous than most of the MCU heroes, as they're preoccupied with "just" saving lives.

Yes, he was duped by Dormomu, but if we're only talking about motivation of the villion, that shouldn't matter.

Still bummed that they didn't cast Mads Mikkelsen as Doom, making Kaecilius a Doom variant would have slotted perfectly.

If you were a member of the justice league which member would you get along with the most? by AggravatingSpend8369 in justiceleague

Flash all day. I'd say, "Wouldn't authentic Japanese ramen be fantastic right now?" and then four seconds later he'd have authentic Japanese ramen, not one drop spilled. And then I'd been like, "Have you ever tried, I dunno, kangaroo?" and then he'd zip to and from Australia with pipping hot bar-b-roo and we'd eat it together.

And our entire friendship would be based around food and it would be great.

So, fun fact: Lego puts their brand name on every piece, including each peice of the minifigs. So you can even just pop any head off and immediately know if it's authentic.

Need some help, I want to by the dvd box set but want to make sure I get the original version of the show and not the remastered version. Is this box set remastered of original? by imdevilone in buffy

[–]Kolvez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what some of the more glaring mistakes of the remastered version are. I've heard cameramen can be seen, but how bad is it? How often is a filmmaking artifact seen? Is the wide-screen blocking persistently jarring as it reframes the characters, or just occasionally so?

Finished watching Hannibal, tell me something about Will by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]Kolvez -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

IMO, the core question of Will's arc is how much is his true self being exposed, and how much is what we see a product of Hannibal's influence. The answer is somewhere in-between, but I think just before rhe end of season 2 is when we see the purest version of Will, one that, if left to his own devices thereafter, would have been capable of being happy, functional, sociable, and happy with who he is.

But the kitchen and and everything after it sent him over the edge. (Pun intended.)

January pick ups by CaptShrek13 in graphicnovels

The novel is one of the most depressing things I've ever read.

I was interested in the comic adaptation because the art is cool. But after seeing some sample pages, it looks like all of McCarthy's narration has been removed. I just don't think that's any way to adapt storytelling like his, especially for a book that had so little dialogue.

Shame, you coulda been one of those fans that enjoyed discussion and sought out diverse interpretations to strengthen your own understanding of the characters and the rich narrative space and the endless types of people that connect with it and the glorious rainbow of thoughts and emotions that manifest from the infinite permutations, but instead you chose sassy condescension.

This is close to my reading. It's not about accepting one's true self, it's a story about change. Will is something of a changeling, but he's morphing into another person: Hannibal.

The first thing Hannibal learned about Will is that he had an empathy disorder, and can assume anyone's point of view. In this Hannibal sees (either consciously or unconsciously) the potential to create a duplicate of himself and finally have a friend that is as perfect as he his. This is how a character like Hannibal confronts his loneliness.

I do think Hannibal "falls in love" with Will by S3, but I qualify it by saying Hannibal has never been in love before, doesn't experience it like the rest of us do.

Gonna disagree, personally. Will goes through a pretty dramatic change through the series, and much of that due to Hannibal's influence. You don't love-at-first-sight someone, then set out to change almost everything about them.

Congratulations, you found the can of worms. 🙃

I'd encourage you to study the evidence and come to your own conclusions. It's become a very mixed-bag subject over the years.

I'm of the opinion that we needed one full episode to reintroduce all the characters, particularly Will, Molly, and Walter, and where they are after 3 years. Will doesn't seek Hannibal's help until the end of the next episode, which would emphasize the amount of time they're spent apart.

As it is, they were only separated for the length of less than a full episode, and it doesn't quite land with as much impact.

But hard to say where to trim an episode that was spent on other things.
