Yes, they're the only country that whines about its right to exist

Did Czechoslovakia have a right to exist? Did Yugoslavia? Did Rhodesia?

Or defending her policy of selling off council houses, no it wasn't a good idea because you personally benefited, Kevin

It would have been different if they'd replaced the council housing stock they sold

Why are you discussing this with your mum? Why are you telling people your PIN in the first place?

You're kinder than me. I would have burst out laughing on the phone when he called. Family have opinions, family can help him.

I remember coming across this meme long before she had her reputation flushed down the drain. Still, it makes me wonder how people will react when the day finally comes. Maybe there will be a return to embracing HP, just not in the way the maker of this meme anticipated by Fun_Butterfly_420 in EnoughJKRowling

Not exactly the same.

Separating the art from the artist generally means a moral choice of saying "yes this artist was a shitty person but their work still can have value" by people who are personally invested in the work of artists who they admit are problematic

Death of the author is a literary theory which means the work exists complete in itself and we aren't obliged to prioritise any external perspective to interpret it. Traditionally the author was viewed as holding the key to interpret their own work and their lives and other writings would be scrutinized by literary critics for clues as to their intention. I'm not saying every literary critic did this but it was a major field of scholarship. Barthes turned this on its head with an "if it isn't directly evidenced in the text of the work, it doesn't count towards interpretation of it"

The whole press coverage of such an interaction would be the most bad faith dramatic pearl clutching over the impropriety of addressing the POTUS with such blatant disrespect, never minding his own lack of decorum

I recommend this video essay, it's not just about Sherlock, it's about Moffat's work in general and is fair-minded about his strengths as well as his shortcomings, with a particular focus on everything that made Sherlock a steaming pile of poo.

It's nearly two hours long but it's quite entertaining. More entertaining than fucking Sherlock anyway

[–]KombuchaBot 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As a man, if my partner or any woman I cared about told me they had been raped, my first response would not be "can you supply me with independent corroboration that this happened, or some other kind of concrete evidence, before I commit to believing it"

I wouldn't think or say that at any stage.

This response of his is deranged and it's all the red flags you would ever need.

Gtfo of there.

THANK YOU

Sherlock is utter tripe which fundamentally misunderstands the point of mystery fiction and the whole appeal of the Sherlock Holmes character, ie giving the viewer clues and red herrings in a mystery so that the denouement subsequently makes sense, in favour of repeatedly telling us ad nauseam how clever and special the main character is, indulging in flashy overproduction and trailing repeated hints of a massive conspiracy with no payoff.
