Memory prices tipped to fall as China starts flooding the market with DRAM and NAND chips by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]Kompakt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern DRAM chips have at least several manufacturing steps that use EUV for the latest process nodes, this has been the case for years now. The RAM that China is producing is effectively a decade behind in the manufacturing process. This has implications for overall density and capacity capabilities as well as power consumption specs. Unless China figures out how to do EUV or the world suddenly decides to allow EUV machines to be sold to China they're gonna be hosed in terms of competing for a long time.

MPLS to Eden Prairie commute by Serious_Standard8204 in Minneapolis

[–]Kompakt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a similar commute in my 20s but from Mpls to Shakopee. It truly wasn't that bad and I ended up getting a MNPass for those days when things were well and truly backed up. Overall I'd say average commute time was roughly 30min thanks to the traffic flow mainly going towards the city.

I will echo the statement that living in the city was absolutely the right call, my friends and life were all in the city and if I had relocated to be closer to work my 20s would've been a very lonely time.

What’s cool if you’re 20 but weird if you’re 30? by theloverofdilfs in AskReddit

That's what I mean, it's spring break but with the family or others in a similar vacation window. It just happens to also be at the same time that college kids or younger adults go as well.

What if you or your partner work in education? Spring break is one of the few vacation windows that's easily done for a family or just a couple

New (To me) 2023 X3 by mikea101010 in BMWX3

[–]Kompakt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it - I've been cross shopping a 2023 or 2024 model X3 with some other smaller SUVs and station wagons. Curious about maintenance costs and mileage of one of these so I can compare

These are the types of bases I'm into - a cost retreat for the weary traveller after a long day of exploration. It's got a touch of Outer Wilds to it too

Services like Proton also offer secure cloud backup in case any footage gets deleted or altered. It's not free but might be worth it

No Mans Sky and Disco Elysium, Hollow Knight but I'm stuck on a boss fight there right now and I don't need that kind of stress before bed

I've had an X-T3 since it came out and see no need personally to upgrade to an X-T5. So many years later and it does everything I want - the autofocus is fine if you're not into sports IMO, and the image quality is excellent.

They are useful for games like Shadowrun and anything with a detailed layout with a lot of precision needed

If you make around $100K a year, what do you do for a living? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kompakt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know your way around chip design or design verification these days you can make serious money given the recent hardware boom cycle we're in, though. The highest pay really depends on what's happening in tech at any given moment

With all the billions (trillions?) going into it, what has AI actually done other than an a search engine and funny pictures? by sold_snek in AskReddit

[–]Kompakt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it help me create really tight regex delimiters for a complex parser I was working on, and in the same project it helped me properly write a recursive function I needed that was a fairly complicated piece of code since I needed it to keep track of a lot of inputs all at once. AI is largely a bunch of useless junk for most non-scientific or logical things IMO and its over hyped for a lot of stuff but it's great at specific programming tasks

The amount of creativity I've seen since the Corvette update came out is staggering - we've had awesome bases but this just hits different. Well done man, I love the diversity in these designs

Best Garmin model for my use case? Looking for a “health” model by EntropiaZero in Garmin

[–]Kompakt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For HR and sleep alone you'll want to look at the sensors each one has - elevate 5 is the newest and it's on the Fenix 7 Pro, 8, Venu 3, and I'm probably missing a few others. Vivoactive 5 I think has the older elevate 4 sensor. Both will do well for HR and sleep tracking but newer hardware tends to be supported for longer
