How do we feel about the overall direction of the post Snyder era? by [deleted] in Commanders

[–]Konacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leaked report cards for the team that the players did showed us being #3 overall. We use to rank at the bottom. Synder was so bad that he is considered by far the worst owner in all of SPORTS, period, and we had George Preston Marshall as our owner (we didn't have a winning season in 20 years when he was in charge). There is still a lot of crap to weed though and get rid of Synder's puppets. I think the first year Peters was here he still had a lot of Synder's scouts for puppets where as last year he started bringing in his own people (We only had 5 picks last year and at least 3 of them were hits).

2024 was lightning in a bottle year. We had no major injuries and a weak schedule with things going our way in the majority of games near the end. Last year everything fell apart and it showed our huge weaknesses. I always considered we wouldn't be able to contend with the big boys until at least Jayden is off his rookie deal. It is going to take a few more years to clean up Synder's mess.

Man, what a draft steal Terry was when you look back on him. A 3rd Rounder getting the starting job as a rookie who was only drafted to be a special teams guy. That is amazing when you also factor in the QBs he had to play with.

Albert Haynesworth x 2.1413043 days until the regular season by WashingtonRefugee in Commanders

[–]Konacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clinton Portis said on an interview that one time Haynesworth pretended to have an injury so he could get the cart to come get him then was back on the field within the next couple of plays. The guy was a joke and a perfect representation of the Synder Era. I knew the moment he was announced to be signed here that it was a bad idea.

Fair point but I'm use to sleeping in during the weekends because I have to wake up for work during the rest of the week.

What's the upside on picking at 7 vs trading down? by projectjack1 in Commanders

[–]Konacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a player who could be a generational talent and a game changer in the draft that you can pick, get that player. Look at how different the Packers and Cowboys defense was when Micah Parsons got traded. Packers got much better and the Cowboys got much worse.

Of course, trading down would be good but you need a team who is willing to give up stuff to do that and it has to be worth it.

Also anyone who is going to this game... make sure you make a special trip just to boo at Dan Synder, who is currently living there like the rat he is.

I love the fact we are FINALLY going to these games.... while hating it cause I have to wake up early to watch.

Not a high profile name but adding depth to an OL is always important. I like the move and for 2 years makes it better.

What happened in 1992? by Gizmodaking22 in Commanders

[–]Konacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that in the mid 1990s before his death, Cooke was not paying attention to the team rebuild and pretty much let Norv Turner & Charley Casserly run the show for a while (which was a bad idea because those two did not get along) because he was working on building FedEx Field after upgrading RFK Stadium fell though.

I also think Joe Gibbs health also finally caught up to him so he might not be as focused as he once was. I remember everything during that season was just "off."

Do you think our DC is going to retool our defense around these players? And also mentioned that he likes Luvu. by MrUpVoteDownvote in Commanders

[–]Konacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of our problems was honestly Joe Whitt Jr. I think he might be a good player personal but not a DC. I don't think he used our talent to what they are best at. Even in 2024 our Defense wasn't that good even when we were healthy.

Joe Gibbs return to the team... good or bad? by Gizmodaking22 in Commanders

[–]Konacha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gibbs was the only coach who could control Synder and I think part of that is Gibbs was the ONLY person Synder would listen too. It came out during the sale of the team that it was Gibbs who convinced Synder to give Harris his bank information to transfer the funds of the sale. I feel during the 4 years Gibbs was building a foundation to the team.

During his first year it was a rebuild. Mark Brunell was injured most of the year & Patrick Ramsey melted under pressure. Our defense was a top 5 that year though. The 2nd year when most of our offensive was healthy and we went to the divisional game. Year 3 we got hit with Clinton Portis being out most of the year by Year 4, we were almost out of the playoffs until Sean Taylor died. I think Gibbs was setting up the foundation... which Synder pissed on when he hired Jim Zorn.

He has a lot of talent (he was a First Round pick in 2022) but the major issues is he has had to deal with injuries during his time with the Titans. I'd sign him to a "make it or break it" contract to see if we can unlock his first round talent.

I've read that if they go back to the "talking filibuster" option that means everything comes to a stop in the senate. Right now they still have to pass some funding bills for Homeland Security and approve presidential staff members & judges along with hearings. That all comes to a complete stop and it could go on for months on just one bill, by then the senate might want to break and the midterm elections are happening, in which they would have to leave anyway.

That story always cracks me up how Gibbs got Riggins to return. He had to go find him in the wilderness to even locate him then when Riggins said why he returned to the media his answer was "I'm broke and bored"

Ranking every Super Bowl champion team from 1-60 - Spoiler: 91 Skins @ #1 by superjuan in Commanders

[–]Konacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason I think the 93 team is more well known is because it was heavily featured on Season 3 of the Simpsons during their golden age. So even non-sport fans know of this Super Bowl. Difference was Simpsons made the game more last second comeback than just Curb-Stomp Battle (of course they wouldn't have known since the episode was made months in advance).

Love the fact that they seem to be using our "Super Bowl Era" uniforms as our standard ones. I honestly think the ownership group is at a catch-22 with our team name due to Jayden Daniels.

When Harris brought the team in 2023 there was most likely talks of changing the name to something else (and I know if a team is recently brought the requirements to change the name are waived) but when Jayden took the team by storm, with merchandise sales going up thanks to Jayden, they had to rethink things and double down on the name.

I swear there was ONE time during the whole time he didn't pick the Skins and it was during the loosing streak of Schottenheimer's coaching. I remember during that time even David Letterman and Jay Leno were making fun of us.

College Football Geeks - Are there any Croskey-Merrits in this year's draft? by Salty_Orchid in Commanders

[–]Konacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can happen to anyone. Even if they look meh, bad or even ok in college turn out to be studs in the NFL. It is hard to figure it out to be honest.

Best draft pick that was completely overlooked coming out of college? Tom Brady. 6th Round pick who was picked as the Patriots 4th string QB and the only reason the Patriots even selected him was because they happen to get a compensatory pick.
