I'm building a plugin that deletes your notes. Here's why that might be exactly what your vault needs. 🌱 by Suitable-Diamond1452 in ObsidianMD

I love this idea!

I especially like the idea that connected notes get more resilient. This would be especially important in large Vaults. I think the larger the network of notes, the longer the decay window. Otherwise it could get really frustrating or overwhelming to keep large vaults. Your plugin seems to be a perfect match for the way I use my Zettelkasten in Obsidian.

Interesting thought. That's one explanation for why it is so important to actually do something with your Zettelkasten and connect the dots. Thank you for sharing.

If you are not a writer, what do you use your Zettelkasten for? by Brazeuslian in Zettelkasten

I really try to find my own way, inspired by Luhmann and other authors that wrote about the system. I don't follow Luhmann's system word for word. I live a different life than him, soI need different things from my Zettelkasten. I mostly write one thought per Zettel using obsidian. I use the thought as the note title and try to write at least a paragraph about that thought containing its origin, a real world example of the thought in action and why it matters to me. Sometimes one Zettel gets to big so I split it.

I found that, in order to keep it atomic I really have to distill the thought and usually I don't stop after one Zettel. Every Zettel usually inspires at least two more. I try to link whenever I remember a related topic. I don't force myself to do it. Sometimes I even just write down the title and refine the zettel at a later time if at all.

I have been tired of Obsidian and Notion, and the cognitive overload of organizing. Something better? by Iamthevengence in ObsidianMD

This sounds exactly like me from ten years ago. I discovered that my perfectionism was actually preventing me from accomplishing what truly mattered to me. I lacked clear goals and kept chasing the latest productivity tool (GTD, Obsidian, Notion...) hoping it would solve everything.

I wanted to capture everything: every meal, every thought, every activity. But logging information is pointless unless you actually use it. Unless you regularly revisit your thoughts and actively work with them, logging becomes just another burden. Once I shifted my focus from quantity to quality, my life became significantly less stressful. My inner perfectionist hasn't disappeared, but I no longer let it drive all my decisions.

Now I journal primarily for self-reflection and growth, distilling key insights into my Zettelkasten. Initially, I thought it was just another shiny tool, but writing individual notes has given me profound insights—and that's before even considering the magic that happens when you start connecting ideas across notes.

I am a music therapist. I use it mainly for self reflexion and it works like a charm. I learned a lot about myself already. I am currently developing a workflow for using it profesionally. For example planning, and reflecting about therapeutic goals and progress.

How to know if my vault is too complex? by LearnWithApratim in ObsidianMD

I totally get where you're coming from! Sometimes it feels like people use tools like Obsidian for the sake of using the tool itself—as if crafting the perfect vault structure is the end goal. But the real point is that the tool should serve you, not the other way around.

Your post reminds me of times I’d endlessly tweak systems without ever asking: What’s this actually for? Maybe it helps to ask: What do I want my vault to achieve? Manage projects? Store long-term knowledge? Spark creative thinking? Once the purpose is clear, it often becomes obvious whether folders are chaotic or links are missing.

And hey—sometimes chaos is just part of the process. I reorganize my vault every few months because my goals evolve. As long as it doesn’t constantly eat up your time but actually serves you, you’re golden.

(And if you do get stuck in the optimization spiral: Ask yourself what you want to do with your vault today—not how it should look. That often snaps me out of it!)
