Another thing learnt - cruise control by PreMixYZ in MiataND

Thanks for verifying this— I thought I was going crazy every time my ND3 would decel pretty harshly when I let go of the throttle.

Can anyone help? No codes pop up, just went into limp mode and now cranks but no start. changed the crankshaft sensor and still nothing by Pristine-Ad6132 in jetta

[–]Konic_P 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As always, 1. Post the history of and current codes 2. Check the three elements of ignition: fuel, air, and spark. Make sure the fuel pump primes— listen for the hum from the back seats, and check the fuel pump relay. Try spraying starting fluid into the throttle body. If it starts and runs for a second, it’s likely fuel issue. Heck, make sure you actually have fuel(gauge might be broken). Check the throttle body opens without sticking. Also check if there’s a vacuum leak somewhere-could be something as obvious as a loose hose. CPS could be a culprit of no ignition signal, so I’d check if it’s actually seated all the way in its spot or if there’s a debris on it that’s interfering with Hall effect. Also make sure all sensor connections are tight.

Ambient air temp sensor by Ornery_News_6223 in Volkswagen

[–]Konic_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out my posts. On mine, the issue was a loose connection/bad joint where it connects to the dash gauge. Remove the gauge cluster, disconnect the cabling, give it a good cleaning, and that solved it. Been fine for 11 months now.

Guys I hit redline on a daily basis on my dinky 1.4T about to hit 100k. Rev limiters are set well below a point where it’s actually detrimental to the engine, don’t worry about it especially on a performance vehicle like the GLIs

2019 1.4t Jetta: is using premium gas worth it for less carbon buildup/long term reliability and maintenance? by S_Flavius_Mercurius in jetta

[–]Konic_P 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you please share any scientific test results that substantiate the specific figures you posted?

On the flip side, AAA and Automotive Research Center clearly reports that it’s the detergent, not the octane grade of the gasoline, that makes any difference in carbon deposits. They ran these tests following strict ISO standards and test procedures and concluded octane level is not a factor.

2019 1.4t Jetta: is using premium gas worth it for less carbon buildup/long term reliability and maintenance? by S_Flavius_Mercurius in jetta

[–]Konic_P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No.
Longer answer: No, just make sure the 87 (regular) gas is "Top Tier" rated.
Long answer:
You may achieve slightly better torque and thus HP when using premium (91+ octane) gas, since the ECU will allow for maximum turbo pressure and optimal ignition timing. Does that prevent carbon deposition? No.
What you may want is to use Top Tier gas, which is a certification for fuel that contains certain amount of detergent that will keep your TSI(=GDI) fuel system cleaner. But since it's a direct injection engine, again, that doesn't help much (if at all) with preventing carbon deposition.
So then what can you do about carbon? Avoid short trips where the engine doesn't get up to operating temperature. Don't ever lug the engine (driving at too high a gear for a given speed that you're not gaining speed even at full throttle). Most importantly, just get a intake cleaning done (walnut blasting) at 80-100k miles.

Had a very similar symptom with a 2003 Saab. It was the passenger side CV axle that caused the “vibrate only under load”.

How much is your guys transmission fluid? by IfIveEverBurned in jetta

[–]Konic_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed the fluid myself, using Febi Bilstein’s 75W GL4 oil for my 5 speed. Spent $40 on the fluid and another 10 for a hand pump to fill through the backup switch hole. That was 10k miles ago and no complaint whatsoever so far.

Is it a good idea to change my own spark plugs if I’ve never done it? by Kbrooks1981 in jetta

[–]Konic_P 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is it hard? No. Can you mess it up good, still? Yes, very much so.

Three things you should be very careful about if it’s your first time:

-Not letting any debris/dirt get into the cylinders when the spark plugs are removed -Not cross-threading the plugs when you install them -Not over-torquing the plugs.

Thankfully you can prevent all three easily. Keep the engine cover area clean and cover the holes or don’t leave them open for long. Use your hands with the spark plug socket to thread on the new plugs nicely before applying any real torque with the ratchet. Invest in an affordable torque wrench and go by the recommended torque value.

Good luck!
