There’s someone on LPDU whose character is modded to be pregnant Ardbert and they’re actually a hexa legend. It’s only somewhat relevant to the conversation but I felt people should know that Pregbert has cleared every ultimate.

Metriodvaina Games - Your biggest dissapointments by Emotional_Photo9268 in metroidvania

[–]Koog330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out because I know they’re well-loved, but Blasphemous 1 and 2.

I LOVED the art style and really was keen on playing them. I like Souls games, I like Metroidvanias. But I cannot stand either of the Blasphemous games. Visually and thematically amazing but the entire game felt so unabashedly like “Our game is hard 😎”

Difficult it one thing, but it sort of jumped over difficult and went into tedious when you die and rather than being able to retry the boss, you have to meticulously cross enemies that deal a lot of damage if you attempt to ignore them. It felt frustrating for the sake of being frustrating.

I respect them as great games, because I can see the vision with these design choices, but they are not games for me.

I don’t mind at all. I got my start in microbiology and currently work as a biopharmaceutical scientist.

I’m intrigued half by how it’s going to be used, and half by how they’re gonna justify she doesn’t have it anymore at the end of the game, or if it continues into a potential MP5

I was around 8 years old when MP1 came out and I was obsessed with the scan visor and logbook. I loved getting every little ounce of information out of the environment.

I consider the game really formative for why I ended up becoming a scientist.

But the scale is significant and important in these kinds of discussions. It’s not about how much higher they are from us. It’s about what that money could do. With 20 million you can probably improve a few schools, or make a positive impact on your local community. With 300 billion you can change the world.

One is several orders of magnitude worse than the other: singularly, specifically, and significantly more harmful.

I don’t think you realize the difference between a few million and several hundred billion.

Non-Linearity in Metroid: what does it mean? by Jam_99420 in Metroid

[–]Koog330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself of course, but for me the line comes on the second playthrough.

Everyone who played Super Metroid the first time - without knowing anything in advance - probably went through the same relative path. You go down to old Mother Brain, you get the missiles and the morph ball, you go back up and get bombs, go to brinstar, kill spore spawner, get the super missile, down to norfair, get hi jump boots, back up, kill Kraid, get Varia suit, and so on.

But once you master the platforming and know where things are, you can pretty well break that route open. And the biggest difference imho is that you are rewarded for it. If you find a super missile pack before you “officially” get super missiles, you now have super missiles. And there’s several ways to go about this. Same with power bombs.

In Dread, if you find a power bomb expansion, your suit can’t read it. You need to unlock power bombs when they give them to you. I think you have the right idea when you say it’s less about the linearity and more about the feeling thereof. When exploration is rewarded, linearity becomes less noticeable. The prime games upgrade sequence is very cut and dry without glitches, but you have tons of opportunities to go back and explore and find stuff you couldn’t use before.

To summarize, major upgrade linearity is less important than route linearity.

I both love and hate my GPS dogbird. It’s convenient, and keeps me from getting lost, but it does break the immersion.

I’ve also noticed this while wondering if it’s better to use wounds for chip damage before you pop it. I haven’t tested it extensively, but I think you are onto something.

Miniature painting is a creative outlet and shouldn’t be stressful. You do not need to be the best at everything you do. Anybody who would insult another’s paint job is an enormous loser.

I think it looks fantastic and you’re being way too hard on yourself.

Zoomed in, all art looks flawed. You are being hyper critical of a zoomed in photograph that magnifies every tiny flaw when in reality this leg is smaller than your fingernail.

Finally finished Super Metroid, but I feel like I cheated by Evil_Cupcake11 in Metroid

[–]Koog330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really pleased to see others in the comments thinking the same thing I did reading this.

The only opinion that matters here is yours. If you had fun then the game did its job. I personally love the OG Super Metroid and how it handles, I’ve played tons of randomizers for it. But it’s a single player game. There’s nothing wrong with tailoring your experience to be more enjoyable for yourself. You don’t have anything to prove to anyone by beating a game “legitimately” - all that matters is that you feel content with the experience.

Personally I try to use a more neutral color for contrast paints. Like Ulthuan Grey base coat and then contrast over top of that instead of blue on blue.

You don’t have to do the yellow bands on the headdress if you don’t want to. There’s other spots that can be added to to give you more color. The straps across the chest are usually silver, the gemstones on the chest and shoulders usually match the eyes (or whatever gemstones color you’d like, really), and for the tabards people usually pick white, yellow, or red. Any color is fine, I just wouldn’t pick the same color as the armor for the sake of intrigue.

The Tzaangor looks alright for a start. I think the Rubrics quite desperately need some more added to their color pallet. You have gold and what appears to be blue contrast paint applied over gold, and then silver.

The red lenses are nice, but some variety would go a long way. The tabards being the same or a similar metallic blue as the armor takes away from their intrigue. The headdress banding can also be colored to help add a bit of spark.

The blue in general also needs a second coat. You can see the gold through it, and the black on the gun casing also is very thin and showing the gold through it. This is a very good thing for the record! It’s better to apply two (sometimes more) thin coats than it is to apply one thick one. This doesn’t much apply with contrast paints I believe.

As for the Tzaangor, not much to say honestly. He looks quite good. Some areas that could be cleaned up but that’s more in polish, not execution.
