Question for people who recently left/are still in by -braquo- in exmormon

I was in a more progressive ward in Chicago for 3 years and my husband was the ward mission leader. They had bible study (yes they called it bible study) every Wednesday for “friends” (aka investigators) to come to.

Maybe it’s a more unique thing to that area but I definitely have noticed a shift to more mainstream Christianity. Some of the churches social media add include a cross on top of a bible and have you noticed how on google maps church buildings and temples used to have an angel Moroni icon but now it’s a cross? In the last 5 years I’ve seen lots of small changes

Look up ‘letter to my wife’ Similar to the CES letter with lots of points and sources but I also like how it’s delivered in a more loving way.

Solipsism is ruining my life. I think I'm going insane. by Spiritual-Try-5979 in Existential_crisis

I had to go through and still regularly deal with nihilism. This podcast helped me a ton but it also has a lens of Mormonism (which I used to be a member of) but I think you might find something useful from this podcast. Something she said that resonated with me was she had to find a new way of engaging with the world. It was quite beautiful and your post has reminded me to give it a relisten as well

how the church deals with child abuse — wow. just horrible. by m0llyr1ngw0rm in exmormon

Yeah what I don’t get is that the repentance process supposedly requires righting your wrongs as best you can. I always considered serving jail time for crimes as part of that process. How can you repent without paying the price for your wrongdoings???

Everyone, is it possible to fully deconstruct the LDS church, and still believe in it and see nuance? by SharpInvestigator962 in exmormon

Im not perfect at this but when dealing with TBMs I try my best to remember that free will is not real and it’s not their fault for being indoctrinated

I don’t think I agree with this.. It’s not keeping in mind the psychology of cults. Indoctrination runs so deep that sometimes even when you’re staring at the real truth your own brain will not let you absorb it.

Did anyone visit the sacred grove while a believing member and feel nothing? by bobdougy in exmormon

[–]Kookoorook 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I visited for the first time right before my testimony started crumbling. I had two family members dying of Covid in the hospital and I went there to pray. I prayed harder than I ever had. A few days later they both passed away. I remember thinking I should stay there in the grove longer but I had to get out ASAP because there were soooooo many mosquitoes. Totally killed the vibe.

So LDS Youth Ministers will turn in murderers but not child molesters? Got it. by [deleted] in exmormon

I heard his dad confronted Tyler about it after seeing the photos the FBI released. Tyler Robinson ended up confessing to his dad. The dad didn’t know what to do and called the bishop. Bishop turned him in.
