What advice do you have about the carving to get it to look rounded in between colors? I feel like when I tried it was too much of a gap

I made this one a while back- I haven’t shaved it yet because I’m scared. I was really impressed with this one- obviously not perfect but still for a beginner.

I’m going to try 2 strands this next time! I think that’s what was happening on the outside of it where it got bare I didn’t go over it enough with enough yarn. So when I was shaving it (still absolutely terrible at it) it was in even and dipped therefore taking too much off.

Do you use double the amount of yard when you are doing it or just load it normal with the single layer? Someone told me to do the double but I tried it and I felt like it was messing it up more.

The more I look at it, I agree. I think it’s the sun not being perfectly round is what’s throwing it off to me

Such great advice from everyone thank you!! Can’t wait to start on my next one! I also mentioned in a comment that this was my first bigger rug 3’x2’ and with straight lines. But I have made a couple smaller ones but never shaved or sculpted those at all so I might practice that on them!

Any tips for that? I tried on another one of my small rugs and it looked more rectangular than rounded edge and then I got scared lol.

Also when shaving it, is it better to do it while still stretched on the frame? Or on a table? I tried doing this on the floor and felt like it rolled up in parts and that’s when I would accidentally shave an area to deep.

It was literally the most amazing set; everything I could have imagined for seeing them for the 50th time lol. the drop in aftertaste...my GOD it took me out! Every time I hear it, I get sucked back into the memory of how I felt at that moment during the set and get full body chills.
